Division 2 ACFL
Caulry 0-11
Castledaly 1-14
Our lads finished their Division 2 ACFL campaign with a defeat when they hosted neighbours Castledaly in the park on Tuesday evening last.
Castledaly raced out of the tracks with an early shot trickling off wide before their full-forward split the Caulry defence and riffled the back of our net with a goal. Our lads then launched their first attack with this failing to pay dividends as a high ball in was lost in the yellow and green defence. Castledaly punished some sloppy play from our lads as they kicked the next three points of the game. Our lads struggled to find their feet up front with Alan Daly eventually tapping over the opening sore on the 12th minute. Some tenacious defending from Eoin Fox forced Castledaly to foul the ball which was worked brilliantly in and slotted over the bar by John Maguire. The Castledaly defence done well as a ball in from Gary Flanagan was narrowly taken off the goal line. Damien Dolan made a burst through the centre as he combined nicely with Fox before finishing with a fine point on the 17th minute. Both teams missed a scoring chance as the next score of the game came from the boot of Sean Clinton. The Castledaly midfielder brought off a fine catch as his side pointed to leave three between the teams. The opposition launched the next three attacks with only one being fruitful after a superb save from Cillian Nagle in goals. Adam Donoghue’s fisted effort narrowed the gap to three again before a late converted-free for Castledaly saw them lead at the interval on a scoreline of 1-6 to 0-5.
Caulry were first to attack in the second half with this hitting the upright and going wide. Castledaly then built from the kickout, raced straight up the field and pointed. Attempts from Caulry fell short of the target as the next two scores of the game came in the form of a converted-free and ‘45’ for the opposition. Colin Murphy then drew one back after a nice ball in from Andy O’Sullivan. However, Castledaly responded with two points of their own. Murphy then tapped over two frees on the 41st and 46th minutes as the visitors were guilty of missing some scoring chances. The teams then traded points with Peter Smyth on target for Caulry. Cialan Dollard was unlucky as his shot on goal rattled back of the post. The teams exchanged late points with Smyth and Dollard adding for Caulry to secure Castledaly the win on a scoreline of 1-14 to 0-11.
