Feis Cup Quarter-Final

Maryland 2-13
Caulry and Maryland served up an exciting encounter on Tuesday evening last when Caulry made the journey to Drumraney for their quarter-final outing in this year’s Feis Cup.
Caulry were first off the mark with a point from Stephen Brookes after a good pass from Alan Fitzpatrick. A converted ‘45’ from Conor McCormack stretched Caulry’s lead on the 4th minute. Loughlin Casey defended well as Maryland registered their first score of the game with a pointed-free on the 11th minute. The opposition drew level soon after with another pointed-free. A point from Emmet Nally put Caulry’s noses in front. The teams traded scores with Conor McCormack adding to the scoring tally. Cillian Nagle brought off good save in goals on the 25th minute as the opposition had to settle for a point. A late score from Andy O’Sullivan left Caulry leading by the narrowest of margins at the halftime whistle on a scoreline of 0-6 to 0-5.
On the resumption, despite some good defending from Charlie Parker, Maryland attacked well and tapped over a point from play. Some great work from Robbie Hickey enabled Sean Clinton to add to the scoring tally. Some good combined teamwork from John Maguire, Fitzpatrick and Hickey meant Caulry kicked the next four scores of the game with Woods, Alan Daly, O’Sullivan and McCormack on target. However, the Maryland men never sat back as they responded with 0-3 in quick succession. McCormack added another pointed-free to leave just three points the margins late in the game. The Maryland men showed a never-say-die attitude as they rattled the back of the Caulry net four minutes into injury time to force the game into extra time with the teams level at the fulltime whistle on a scoreline of 0-12 to 1-9.
Caulry started the first half of extra time well with Hickey tapping over a quick point. However, Maryland drew level with a pointed-free soon after. The Caulry lads pulled together as a team as a superb pass from McCormack found Hickey who hit the back of the Maryland net. A late point from Maguire left Caulry leading by 1-1 at the break.
Some great combined teamwork from McCormack and O’Sullivan enabled Hickey to add another point early in the second half. Ernie Buckley and Eoin Fox defended well as Maryland pointed to reduce the deficit. Some good fielding from Stephen Connolly enabled Hickey to hit the back of the opposition’s net for a second time with 7 minutes remaining. Nally stretched Caulry’s lead to eight points soon after. However, the Maryland men fought hard, scoring an unanswered 1-1. Nagle brought off another good save in goals as Daly pointed at the other end of the field. A late score for Maryland meant Caulry had done enough to secure the win with a final score of 2-17 to 2-13.
