IFC Semi-Final
Caulry 1-8
Milltownpass 1-13
Our lads bowed out of this year’s IFC in a disappointing semi-final clash against Milltownpass on Saturday evening last in TEG Cusack Park.
Caulry started the game well as Damien Dolan capitalised on an advantage after a foul on Eoghan Grennan and pointed inside the opening 60 seconds. Milltownpass soon drew level with their opening score of the game. Caulry were then dealt a double blow as Sean Fox was forced to retire just 4 minutes into the game with a black card for his challenge which resulted in a converted Milltownpass penalty. Alan Daly drew one back on the 6th minute after some good work from Sean Clinton. However, it was the Milltownpass side who seemed hungrier as they drove forward and tagged on two quick points. Colin Murphy kicked Caulry’s next score of the game on the 13th minute before the opposition slotted over another two points. Attacks from Cialan Dollard, Andy O’Sullivan and Conor McCormack all failed to pay dividends as Murphy registered Caulry’s final two scores of the first half from frees. By the time the halftime whistle came, Milltownpass had their five point lead restored with two late points leaving them lead 1-7 to 0-5 at the break.
Littered in sloppy possession from Caulry, the second half followed in much the same vein as our lads struggled to get going. Milltownpass had doubled their lead to ten before our lads opened their second half scoring tally. This score coming on the 48th minute with a point from play from McCormack. Alan Daly then pointed two minutes later as our lads began to play patches of better football. Dolan was pulled down in what could have been a black card offence setting McCormack up for his second point of the game as he tapped over the resulting free. Ben Moran then sent a long ball in on top of the Milltownpass goalie who fumbled and let the ball drop into the back of the net to leave just four between the sides. Milltownpass responded well with a quick point from play as late unsuccessful Caulry attacks saw Milltownpass run out deserving winners on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-8.

This disappointing defeat means our lads bow out of this year’s championship at the semi-final stages. Unfortunately, our lads failed to get going and we’re ultimately beaten by a better team on the day. However, our lads must be praised for their championship performances. After a sluggish start to the campaign with a defeat to Shandonagh, our lads picked up wins over St. Malachys, Bunbrosna and Milltown and drew against Tang to secure their semi-final spot. Well done to all the lads and their management team of Gary Flanagan, Richie Allen and Ronan Carroll for their hard work and commitment. There’s no doubting that these lads have a very brighter future of football ahead of them and with this year’s experience, they will come back even stronger next year. Well done lads.
