Senior & Junior Championship Fixtures
This weekend sees the return of championship action for our senior and junior teams for round 3 of both campaigns.
All eyes will be on the senior championship clashes where the six teams in Section B are all square on two points after the opening rounds and the pressure will be on all to see who will come out on top. This round sees our seniors take on near-neighbours Rosemount on Saturday evening at 6pm in Moate. Our lads will be confident they can push on from their impressive eight-point win over Killucan and rake up another couple of points. We wish the lads and their managment team the very best of luck.
On the following Sunday morning, our juniors make the journey to Loughnavalley for their clash at 11:30am. Likewise, they will be hoping to keep up their winning ways on this occasion.
We all ask supporters to get behind both sides and details regarding tickets can be found on our social media.
Junior Championship Round 2
Caulry 2-14
Rosemount 0-11
Our juniors continued on their winning ways when they hosted Rosemount in the park on Wednesday evening last for their second championship outing.
Both sides were well-matched in the opening half of the game with the teams sharing eight points before the water-break. Liam Malynn opened Caulry’s scoring account on the 3rd minute with the opposition accounting for three points either side of this. Gary Flanagan and Thomas Dunning kicked two fine points to level the game on the 9th minute. Rosemount kicked the next score of the game, but this was cancelled out with a point from the boot of Shane Lawless. The teams then missed a goal chance each before the water-break leaving it all square after fifteen minutes. Malynn put Caulry in front for the first time in the game after combining nicely with Lawless. However, this lead was short-lived as two converted Rosemount frees reversed the scoreline. The game continued on this tit-for-tat basis with two points each meaning Rosemount hung onto their one-point lead at the break.
A different game was in store when the teams took to the field after the interval as our lads began to take charge of proceedings. Early points from Dunning and Malynn levelled the game. Malynn then sent a fine ball in towards Flanagan who made no mistake in rattling the Rosemount net. The visitors worked the ball for a point on the 40th minute, but once again Flanagan showed his class as he got his fist to a dropping Malynn ‘45’ and sent the ball over the bar. Adam Donoghue then added his second score of the game. This point preceded what should have been a goal for Rosemount, but luckily for Caulry went over the bar. Roan Sweeney done well when introduced as he stretched our lead to five. The game was well and truly in our favour on the 53rd minute, when Flanagan sent a high ball in on top of the Rosemount goalie and somehow or another, it found its way into the back of the net. Caulry then outscored the visitors 0-2 to 0-1 in the late stages of the game to take the win.
