Division 2 ACFL

Ballymore 1-6

Our lads picked up their third brace of points in this year’s Division 2 ACFL as they made the journey to Ballymore on Friday evening last.

Caulry hit the ground running with points from Stephen Connolly, Cialan Dollard and Eoghan Grennan. The opposition soon found their feet with a fine point from play on the 7^th minute. Our lads missed some scoring opportunities as another Ballymore score left just one point between the sides. Eoin Fox defended well as Dollard registered his second point of the game on the 13^th minute. The teams then traded points with Grennan on target for Caulry after good combined teamwork from Ben Kenny and Ben Moran. The Ballymore lads worked the ball out well from their own defence, raced up the field and rattled the Caulry net to take the lead on the 22^nd minute. A converted-free from Moran drew level. However, a late point for the opposition put their noses in front at the halftime whistle on a scoreline of 1-4 to 0-6.

Our lads started the second half well with two converted-frees from Moran edging Caulry in front. Damien Dolan defended well and put his name on the scoresheet after combining with Alan Daly. Neil Clinton and Jack O’Kelly Lynch worked well together, setting Alan Fitzpatrick up for a score on the 40^th minute. Ballymore put pressure on our backline with two goal opportunities being brilliantly blocked down by Cillian Nagle and Kevin Maguire. Points from Colin Murphy and Dolan stretched Caulry’s lead to five with 10 minutes remaining. Ballymore drew one back. However, our lads drove on with two converted-frees from Moran and Murphy. Murphy and O’Kelly Lynch worked hard in the closing stages of the game as a point from Maguire widened the margins between the sides. The teams then exchanged points to leave Caulry leading 0-16 to 1-6 at the fulltime whistle.

Milltownpass 1-14

Caulry and Milltownpass served up an exciting encounter in the local park on Saturday evening last in the latest round of this year’s Division 4 ACFL.

Our lads were first off the mark after a pass from Andy O’Sullivan found Anthony Allen who pointed. The opposition then kicked the next three scores of the game to take the lead. Alan Daly drew one back with a fine point from play. O’Sullivan sent a fine ball into Colin Murphy who rattled the back of the Milltownpass net on the 7^th minute. Milltownpass kept in touch with another point from play. Murphy and O’Sullivan combined well as O’Sullivan’s goal attempt was well blocked down and put out for a ‘45’, which was neatly slotted over the bar by Liam Malynn. Some great work from Stephen Brookes enabled Allen to add to the scoring tally. Despite owning most of the possession, our lads failed to push on and missed some scoring opportunities throughout the first half. Milltownpass however took their chances, adding an unanswered 0-4 to lead at the interval on a scoreline of 0-8 to 1-4.

The opposition raced out of the tracks in the second half, adding a quick 1-2. Adam Mullins made a burst up the field and found Neil Clinton who added a point. Some good fielding from Gary Flanagan enabled Brookes to put his name on the scoresheet. Brookes then drew level on the 48^th minute as he combined well with Daly. Our lads missed a number of goal scoring opportunities throughout the second half as a Milltownpass point put them in front. The teams exchanged points, with Malynn on target for Caulry. A good pass from Alan Daly found Neil Clinton who hit the back of the opposition’s net on the 49^th minute to leave Caulry trailing by one. Another goal attempt from O’Sullivan was brilliantly blocked down as Milltownpass raced up the field and put two between the sides. O’Sullivan and Malynn then combined well and set Brookes up for a goal on the 52^nd minute. Brian Mullarney and Darren Hynds defended well as Brookes and Allen pointed to put Caulry three points the good. However, the opposition never gave up as they reduced the deficit with a fine point from play on the 55^th minute. Harry Hughes raced up the field and found O’Sullivan who pointed to ensure Caulry the win on a scoreline of 3-11 to 1-14.
