U14 Championship
Caulry 4-9
Garrycastle 4-8
Our U14 boys overcame Garrycastle by the narrowest of margins for their latest championship fixture on Thursday evening last in the park.
Garrycastle got off to a great start and had tagged on 1-5 in quick succession before a well taken goal from Tiarnan O’Donovan got our boys off the mark on the 8th minute. Some good play from Oisin Shortall and Dean Byrne then set O’Donovan up for his first point of the game. Garrycastle kicked the next score of the game on the 13th minute as their defence done well stopping any Caulry attacks. O’Donovan added his third score of the game after the ball was brilliantly worked up the field. Conor Hynes then brought Caulry right back into contention as he rattled the back of the Garrycastle net after a good pass from Max O’Sullivan. However, the opposition dug deep for the remainder of the half, adding a late 1-1 to lead by five at the break.
Our boys raced out of the tracks in the second half and were unlucky as some scoring chances went astray. Lee Corcoran worked hard when introduced as he set Brendan Kelly McCormack up for a score on the 36th minute. Aaron Murphy then showed great vision as he tore forward and sent the ball to the back of the net to leave just four points between the sides. However, Caulry’s hopes for a win soon suffered a blow as the Garrycastle boys responded in style with a goal of their own. Points from O’Sullivan and Hynes chipped away at the deficit. However, a converted penalty for the opposition soon restored their lead. The Caulry boys worked tirelessly throughout the second half and got three points on the trot from the boots of Andrew Stuart Trainor, Shortall and O’Donovan. Cian Lawless and Tadgh Baker defended well when put under pressure as a good pass from O’Donovan at the other end of the field found Brendan Kelly McCormack who levelled the game with a well-taken goal. The Caulry boys fought hard with Shortall tapping over the winner, ensuring our boys escaped victorious on a scoreline of 4-9 to 4-8.

Minor Championship
Caulry 0-12
Tubberclair 2-15
Our minors failed to get going in their second championship outing on Friday evening last when they made the short journey to Tubberclair.
The teams traded early points with Thomas Dunning opening the scoring account after 2 minutes. Tom Cloonan brought off a vital intercept and set Senan Baker up for Caulry’s second score of the game before a goalward shot from Baker rattled back off the post. A decent spell for the opposition then followed as they slotted over five unanswered points which gave them a lead they would not relinquish. Rory Mullins worked tirelessly at midfield as he outscored the homeside 0-3 to 0-1 between the 19th and 26th minutes. Dunning then showed great vision as he bisected the posts after a fine catch. However, Tubberclair soon restored their four point lead with three unanswered points to leave the scoreboard reading 0-10 to 0-6 at halftime.
Alan Malynn drew two back early in the second half as he slotted two placed balls over the bar. However, Tubberclair never seemed phased as they responded in style, tagging on 1-1. The game seemed to lack championship pace and intensity throughout the second half as five of the next six scores came from frees, three of which Malynn sent over for Caulry. The Tubberclair defence held strong as our boys struggled to get scores from play and their forwards impressed when called upon as a well-taken goal on the 58th minute had the homeside looking home and hosed. Our only score from play of the second half came courtesy of James Carey before a late Tubberclair point secured their win on a scoreline of 2-15 to 0-12.

JFC
Caulry 0-7
Garrycastle 2-15
Our juniors suffered their second defeat in this year’s championship campaign when they made the journey to Garrycastle on Sunday morning last.
It was the homeside who were first to find their shooting boots with a converted-free on the 4th minute. Garrycastle then put two between the sides soon after. A free from Liam Malynn halved the deficit as a well worked score from the boot of Anthony Allen had it 0-2 a piece by the quarter-hour mark. However, this was as good as it got for our lads as we struggled to convert any scoring chances and the opposition began to dominate the midfield section taking scores well as they tagged on an unanswered 1-4. Malynn drew one back late in the half after a well-worked line ball from Hugh Allen before two Garrycastle points left Caulry trailing 1-8 to 0-3 at the interval.
Both sides were slow to settle and were guilty of missing early scoring chances after the restart. Points from Malynn were cancelled out by a range of Garrycastle points throughout the half. The opposition then rattled the back of the Caulry net on the 52nd minute to cushion their lead before late points from both sides saw Garrycastle win on a scoreline of 2-15 to 0-7.
