Minor AGM
Our 2020 Minor AGM took place last night via Microsoft Teams.
In what was a very different affair, outgoing Minor Chairman Irvine Allen welcomed all. A moment’s silence for those deceased during the year preceded his address, in which he began by stating how it was a tough year for all, including the minor board. Irvine spoke about the importance off GAA during the past year as it strived to regain some form of normality in the given circumstances and how sport was a pivotal part, providing the much-needed social interaction for our young players. He complemented the developmental work that was done throughout the year in the form of online workshops and webinars for coaches. Irvine also praised the club’s response to lack of on-field games and training, which were replaced by online skills challenges and he thanked all participants and sponsors. Irvine mentioned getting back onto the pitch as one of the main high points of the year, and in particular congratulated the U13 team on their championship win. He expressed thanks to all coaches, mentors and parents for their work. He thanked all the local schools at pre-school, primary and secondary level for their work in fostering GAA amongst our youth, in particular thanking An Grianán playschool and Little Scholars for sponsoring jerseys for our ‘Red Tigers’ Nursery, and An Grianán NS and Baylin NS for their use of facilities when required. He congratulated Alan Fitzpatrick on his new role as Westmeath GPO and Donie Malone as vice-chairman of Westmeath county board. He then concluded by looking forward to the coming year which looks bright with the club’s abundance of knowledge and strengths and ever-growing numbers.
Outgoing secretary James Hatton then took to the floor, reiterating many of the chairman’s words. A full run down on all age levels were provided by lead mentors. James then concluded his address by highlighting the importance of fostering a link between our senior and juvenile players which was undoubtedly achieved during the year with various men’s and ladies players volunteering with coaching and helping with the online skills challenges. James thanked all for their help and further expressed gratitude the team of secretaries and child development officers for their co-operation and work during the year.
Tom Stuart Trainor then spoke briefly about his hopes for coach, player and games development in the club in the coming year, with having more on-field football and training a key sentiment.
The election of officers took place and the following were elected for the coming year:
· Minor Chairman: Irvine Allen

Chairman of the senior board James Casey then spoke. He thanked the minor board for their hard work and expressed hopes for a longer season of football ahead. He stated the important role of the juvenile section of our club as without the children, there is no Caulry and he wished the minor board the very best for the coming year.
Chairman of the ladies’ board Hugh Gaynor reiterated this sentiment and expressed well wishes for the future.
Prior to concluding the meeting, outgoing minor secretary James thanked all who he has worked with in his 4 years as minor secretary, including current minor chairman Irvine Allen, previous minor chairmen Matt Hamilton and Richie Higgins, fellow secretaries and both the senior and ladies’ committees. We thank James for all the work he has done in his 4 years as minor secretary and on the organising of the club’s first online AGM.
As always, anyone else interested in assisting in any way with the club in the coming year should advise the chairman/secretary of their interest. All help is greatly appreciated.
