Westmeath County Underage
Once again Caulry are well represented on the various Westmeath county teams. Thomas Dunning and James Clavin are members of the Westmeath under 16s who are playing a number of games in preparation for the Gerry Reilly and Fr Manning Cup tournaments. At Under 15 level, Olan Healy, Rory Mullins and Roan Sweeney are playing. The Under 14 are involved in a number of blitzs, and we are represented by Alan Malynn, Senan Baker, Tom Cloonan, Sean Murphy and Conor Paul. While the Westmeath made a tame exit from the final minor All-Ireland series, our representivities , Colin Murphy and Neil Clinton will hope to have a better impact in the inaugural Under 17 series starting shortly. We wish all our players and their colleagues well in their endeavours to bring success to our county and no doubt will return better players as a result.
Under 16 League Division 1
Caulry 1-5
Coralstown Kinnegad 6-14
Caulry had the highly rated Coralstown Kinnegad as visitors on Sunday evening week last. In sweltering summer conditions, the only sunshine football was played by the boys from the north end club. Proceeding to put on an exhibition of football they led 3-9 to 0-3 at the break against a very disappointing home side who were lethargic and lack lustre throughout.
On an evening of very few positives for the home side, James Clavin was once again outstanding between the posts, producing a series of saves including a magnificent penalty save from his county colleague, Shane Fleming. Captain for the evening, Glenn Carolan was defiant throughout. The little human dynamo that is Olan Healy tried everything to get his team going and could no way be faulted. In attack only Roan Sweeney carried the necessary threat, but lacked the support to make a more profound impact. Hopes of retaining this title so brilliantly won last year have now faded and we must up our performance for the remaining league fixtures and the commencement of the championship.

Garrycastle 3-8
Our minor lads’ winning streak came to an end on Wednesday evening last as they were edged out by neighbours Garrycastle in their latest Division 2 Minor League fixture.
Caulry started the game well with some good defending from Dylan Lowry. A point from Liam Malynn got our lads off the mark on the 3rd minute. A converted-penalty from Cialan Dollard put Caulry in the driving seat as Garrycastle struggled to find their feet. Points from Colin Murphy and Sean Woods stretched Caulry’s lead after some good play from Lee Guinan Malone. Garrycastle’s first score of the evening came on the 10th minute with a pointed-free. The teams traded scores with Dollard and Lee Guinan Malone adding to the scoring tally. Jack Sheehan and Sean Fox defended well as a point from Neil Clinton left six points the margin. The Caulry lads worked well as a team as Murphy and Dollard kicked the next two scores of the game. A late pointed-free for Garrycastle left Caulry leading 1-8 to 0-4 at the halftime whistle.
On the resumption, the opposition pointed to reduce the deficit. A good pass from Matthew Nally found Guinan Malone who pointed to stretch Caulry’s lead. The game went on a point for point basis with Nally on target for Caulry. However, our lads seemed to sit back and let the opposition back into the game as they rattled the back of the Caulry net on the 47th minute. Another point for the homeside left just two points between the sides. The all-important score of the game came on the 51st minute as Garrycastle took the lead for the first time with a well-taken goal. The opposition registered their third goal of the evening soon after to leave four points the margins. Our lads struggled against the Garrycastle defence. Two late score from Murphy reduced the deficit. However, Garrycastle had done enough to escape with the win on a scoreline of 1-12 to 3-8.

The Downs 1-6
Our U14 boys had a good win in their latest U14 League fixture as they played host to The Downs on Thursday evening last.
Both teams were slow to settle and were guilty of some early wides. The Caulry defence worked hard from the offset with Alan Lynam having an impressive display as Ruairi Casey denied The Downs some early goal opportunities. Our lads registered the first score of the game with a well-taken goal from Alan Malynn after a superb pass from Shane Lawless. The Downs boys worked hard and kicked their first score of the game on the 17th minute. Our boys worked well as a team throughout the game with some great combined teamwork from Paul Hogan, Alex Grinko and Malynn. Adam Doyle stretched the homeside’s lead on the 20th minute with a fine point from play. Despite some great defending from Harry Stuart Trainor and Michael McDonald, The Downs kicked the next two scores of the game. A late point from James Buckley left a goal between the sides at the interval.
After the break, Senan Baker stretched Caulry’s lead with a pointed-free. Casey brought off another great save in goals as The Downs pointed to reduce the deficit. A great pass from James Buckley found Josh Rhatigan who sent the ball to the back of the opposition’s net on the 44th minute. Baker and Lawless fielded well as Malynn kicked the next score of the game. The Downs boys worked hard and kicked the next two scores to reduce the deficit. A converted-penalty late in the game for the opposition meant Caulry escaped with the win on a scoreline of 2-5 to 1-6.

Ballymore 0-7
In wet and slippery conditions on Friday evening last, Caulry played host to Ballymore for their latest Division 2 ACFL fixture.
Caulry hit the ground running with a well taken point from Gary Flanagan inside the opening 60 seconds. Andy O’Sullivan soon followed suit with another point from play. A point from Damien Dolan stretched Caulry’s lead on the 2nd minute. Our lads began to dominate proceedings as O’Sullivan rattled the back of the Ballymore net. Some great work from Emmet Nally and Eoin Fox enabled Alan Daly and Robbie Hickey to add to the scoring tally. Ballymore found their feet with a pointed-free on the 9th minute. However, our lads responded well as Sean Clinton tapped over another fine score. Ballymore registered their second pointed-free to reduce the deficit. A superb catch from Clinton in the centre of the field allowed Harry Hughes to stretch the homside’s lead. A point from Fox left nine points the margin by the 13th minute. The Ballymore lads attacked well and kicked the next two scores of the game. The opposition’s goalie denied Caulry a goal on the 20th minute as Loughlin Casey and Declan Donohoe defended well at the other end of the field. Some great combined teamwork from Hughes and Dolan enabled Daly to register his second score of the evening. Darren Hynds defended well as a late point from O’Sullivan left the scoreboard reading 2-10 to 0-4 at the halftime whistle.
On the resumption, our lads rallied on with Nally pointing early in the half after some good work from Hickey. Alan Fitzpatrick fielded well as a point from Hickey left fourteen point between the sides. Another pointed-free for Ballymore chipped away at the deficit. However, our lads drove on with a superb score from Fox. The game went on a point-for-point basis with O’Sullivan and McCormack on target for the homeside. Dolan battled hard, kicking the next two scores of the game. A late point from Hickey ensure Caulry ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 2-18 to 0-7.

Tyrrellspass 3-9
Caulry and Tyrrellspass served up an exciting affair on Sunday morning last in their latest Division 4 ACFL fixture.
Caulry were slow to settle and missed an early goal opportunity. Tyrrellspass opened the scoring account with a pointed-free on the 2nd minute. The opposition worked hard and kicked an unanswered 0-4 to put their noses in front. Our defence held strong when put under pressure with Loughlin Casey and Brian Mullarney valiant in their endeavours. Conor McCormack kicked Caulry’s first score of the game on the 19th minute. A converted-penalty from McCormack reduced the deficit to just one point soon after. However, the opposition responded well with a goal of their own on the 27th minute. A late point from Andy O’Sullivan left Caulry trailing 1-5 to 1-2 at the halftime whistle.
Caulry started the second half well with a fine point from McCormack. Harry Hughes fielded well as a point from Alan Daly reduced the deficit. However, our lads seemed to sit back as the opposition rallied on to score an unanswered 1-2. A point from Stephen Connolly reduced the deficit. However, the Tyrrellspass lads responded well as they rattled the back of the Caulry net for a third time. Our lads chipped away at the deficit with Keith McMenamin and McCormack in target for Caulry. Both teams exchanged scores late in the game. Two late points from O'Sullivan and Eoghan Grennan left four points between the sides at the fulltime whistle.
