Moate 1-11

Our lads had a great win over our neighbours Moate in the park on Sunday afternoon last in the latest round of Division 2 ACFL fixtures.

The opposition started the game well with two quick points from the offset. A free from Conor McCormack got our lads off the mark on the 7^th minute as Moate tapped on their third from play. Stephen Connolly drew one back after some good work from Alan Fitzpatrick at midfield. Andy O’Sullivan sent a great ball into the Caulry forward line as Ben Kenny and Eoghan Grennan combined well, rattling the back of the Moate net on the 12^th minute. Moate responded well as they raced up the field and slotted over another fine point. Our lads then drove on with three quick points from McCormack and O’Sullivan. Moate kicked the next two scores of the game. However, this was soon followed by points from Kenny and O’Sullivan to leave Caulry in front by four at the interval on a scoreline of 1-7 to 0-6.

The Caulry lads worked well together as a team throughout the second half as an early converted-free stretched our lead. Harry Hughes done well when introduces as he set Sean Clinton up for his first point of the game. A good pass from O’Sullivan then found Cialan Dollard who added to the scoring tally. The teams traded points as McCormack added another for Caulry. The Moate lads drove forward and left just three points the margin as they hit the Caulry net on the 42^nd minute. However, our lads responded well with Darren Hynds and Kevin Maguire having fine displays in defence. The Moate goalie brought off a good save on the 47^th minute as Eoghan Grennan done well to tap the rebound over the bar. McCormack intercepted the ball well enabling Grennan to slot over his second point of the game. Fitzpatrick and Clinton fielded well as a good kickout from Michael McMahon was worked brilliantly up the field and tapped over the bar by Kenny. A point from Dollard left seven points between the sides with just four minutes remaining. Moate dug deep for the remainder of the half as three unanswered scores meant Caulry ran out winners on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-11.
