Wedding Bells

Congratulations to Alan Carroll & Caroline who were wed recently. Alan, a holder of Intermediate (2014), Junior (2002, 2006 and 2009), Under 21 (2002), Minor (1998 and 1999), and Under 16 (1996) championship medals with Caulry, and Caroline are wished many years of wedded bliss.

Minor Championship Quarter Final

Caulry 1-10

Rosemount/Castledaly 2-14

Caulry bowed out of this year’s Minor Championship with a seven point defeat to a Rosemount/Castledaly side on Saturday evening last.

Caulry were first to get off the mark with a pointed-free from Stephen Byrne. The opposition then responded with an unanswered 0-6. Caulry kicked the next two scores of the game, with Stephen Connolly and Conor McCormack on target, to narrow the deficit. However, a goal on the 24^th minute and a couple of late points for Rosemount/Castledaly meant Caulry trailed 1-9 to 0-4 at the interval.

On the resumption, both teams traded scores, with Connolly and Sean Clinton scoring for Caulry. Caulry made a crucial burst on the quarter hour mark to leave just four points between the sides. Byrne rattled the back of the opposition’s net on the 51^st minute. However, Caulry chased the deficit throughout and late points for the opposition meant they ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 2-14 to 1-10.

Under 16 Championship Division 2 Quarter Final

Caulry 7-6

Garrycastle 3-8

Caulry had a good win in this Under 16 championship quarter final against Garrycastle on Monday week last. Played in Caulry on a wet and miserable evening for football, both sides went about making light of the conditions. Play was evenly contested in the early exchanges, before the stronger Caulry fifteen gradually got on top. The Garrycastle men, had no answer in particular to the awesome power and finishing skill of Liam Doyle. In addition to his hat trick of goals, Liam was also the instigator and provider of a number other scores as he ranged across the forward line in an excellent all round display. With Matthew Nally and Shane Cleary also returning to top form, and Lee Guinan and Liam Malynn scoring well, Caulry led 4-4 to 0-3 at the short whistle.

A Garrycastle goal midway through the second period, followed by a converted penalty straight from the kick-out looked as if the game was about to take a major turnaround. Unbelievably, another penalty was conceded immediately, however, this time Darcy Lawless produced a brilliant diving save to his right and magnificently saved the follow up rebound. Inspired by this let off, Caulry attacked and almost incredibly were, themselves awarded what was a third penalty in less than four minutes. Liam Malynn’s initial spot kick was saved, but he followed up to crash the rebound to the net and momentum swung back to the home side from here on in, with Eoin Shortall and Dylan Lowry, producing an excellent defensive performance and Neil Clinton, showing great leadership in a fine all round display.

Under 14 Championship Final

Caulry travel to GAA headquarters, Cusack Park Mullingar on Saturday morning next. Opposition for this eagerly awaited clash which Throws in at 11.30am will be provided by Tyrrellspass. Caulry qualified for the final after an epic semi-final victory over Milltownpass three weeks ago on a 4-8 to 1-14 showing great resilience and skill in the process. In the group stages Caulry played Saturday’s opponents Tyrrellspass and prevailed 5-14 to 2-13 in one of our better displays this year. Our other opposition and scorelines en route to Saturday’s showdown included, 1-8 to 2-6 Killbeggan/St Joseph’s, Lilliput Gaels 6-10 to 4-7, Milltownpass 2-9 to 4-16, Moate 10-9 to 2-12, Multyfarnham 2-8 to 2-5, Athlone 9-14 to 0-9. The lads will know that only their very best performance will be good enough if they are to take home a long awaited title. We hope all available supporters will go along to offer encouragement to this fine group of footballers.
