Division 1 ACFL
Caulry 2-11
Garrycastle 1-7
Caulry ran out comfortable winners over their neighbours Garrycastle on Saturday evening last, with a well earned seven point victory in their latest Division 1 ACFL fixture.
Caulry opened the scoring tally with a well taken point from Emmet Nally. Garrycastle after being denied a goal, after brilliant defending from James Pettit, had to settle for a point. Emmet Nally and Paddy Sleator hit the next two points for Caulry. However, after Garrycastle scored 1-1 in quick succession, the scoreboard read 1-2 to 0-3 at the interval.
The second half was at near championship pace as both teams traded early points. A converted-free for Garrycastle stretched their lead to three points. The decisive score came in the 43rd minute as Eoin Fox hit the back of the Garrycastle net. A superb score from Alan Fitzpatrick (pic insert) edged Caulry in front. Caulry proved to be the hungrier side and hit the back of the Garrycastle net for a second time with a well taken goal from John Maguire to put five points between the sides.
Our defence worked brilliantly throughout, showing the desire, aggression and will to win. It was great to see our County star Kevin Maguire back playing in defence alongside Ben Moran and James Pettit. There was some nice, combined teamwork resulting in some fine points from play by Eoin Fox, Conor McCormack and Alan Fitzpatrick. The team never tired and a late point from Conor McCormack left seven points between the sides at the final whistle on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-7.

Senior Championship
Caulry will play their first game in the Senior Championship since 29 years on Saturday evening next. Caulry will travel to Cusack Park for their opening game in this year’s senior championship on Saturday at 6pm. The opposition will be provided by Kinnegad. We hope to get off to a winning start in this year’s campaign. All our supporters please get behind our team.
