U14 League
Caulry 2-10
Mullingar Shamrocks 7-17
Our U14 boys went down to a strong Mullingar Shamrocks side on Thursday evening last in their final game of this year’s league.
Our lads hit the ground running with a well-taken goal from Tadgh Baker. Andrew Stuart Trainor then converted a free to put the homeside four points the good. However, this lead was short-lived as Mullingar Shamrocks soon found their feet and fired over an unanswered 1-3. Stuart Trainor made some good bursts up the field as he kicked the next two scores of the match. The opposition replied with 1-1 in quick succession. Stuart Trainor then left the narrowest of margins between the sides as he hit the back of the Mullingar net on the 17th minute. However, the opposition outscored our boys 1-7 to 0-2 to lead comfortably at the break.
It was the visitors who raced out of the tracks in the second half with a quick-fire goal. Tiarnan O’Donovan combined nicely with Brendan Kelly McCormack who pointed. Points from Shortall and Stuart Trainor chipped away at the deficit. However, the opposition never lost sight of the win as a goal on the 41st minute cushioned their lead. Despite some tenacious defending from Darragh Shortall and some fine saves from Max O’Sullivan, Mullingar Shamrocks kicked the next six scores of the game. O’Donovan added two late points as the final whistle loomed with Mullingar Shamrocks running out winners on a scoreline of 7-17 to 2-10.
