Club AGM
The annual general meeting of our club was held in front of a good-sized crowd in our recently refurbished clubhouse on Friday evening last.
Outgoing chairman Richie Higgins welcomed everyone and began by extending sympathies to all families bereaved during the year. His address then followed. Richie stated that it was a busy year both on and off the field. He thanked all senior players & management teams, and underage players, parents & mentors for their commitment and time during the year. Richie also thanked the minor and ladies board respectively for their work. Richie congratulated all players, both adult and senior, involved with Westmeath teams, in particular highlighting the contributions of Tadgh, Tiarnán and Oisín to the All Ireland B Championship win. Richie extended gratitude to the Seamus Claffey for overseeing park maintenance and to the CE scheme workers. He spoke about the successful opening of our new development during the year and about the myriad of other renovations completed in our club within the last 12 months. He thanked Kevin Connaughton and his development committee for all their volunteerism. Richie furthered thanked Jody Malynn for his help with the recent Scór na nÓg, all who contribute and help with the lotto, all sponsors during the year and his fellow committee members. He concluded by saying how it has been an honour to chair the club over the last five years and wished everyone well for the future.
The secretary’s report then followed from outgoing secretary Keith Dolan. Keith provided a comprehensive run down of all adult games during the year. Keith reiterated many of the chair’s address, extending gratitude and congratulations to all for their work and achievements during the year. On a personal note, Keith thanked all committee members and persons he has worked with during his time as secretary and concluded by wishing everyone the best going forward.
Outgoing treasurer Damien Dolan then presented his report. He extended sincere thanks to all who contributed to the finances during the year, appreciating the contributions of sponsors and all who support our weekly lotto draw.

The club extends thanks to all outgoing officers for their time and commitment during the year and wish all incoming officers the very best of luck.
The club extends its sincere thanks to outgoing club secretary Keith Dolan for his outstanding work and contribution to our club during his time serving as a club officer. Keith started as secretary in 2016 and gave his all to the role for his 10 years in charge. Whether it was coordinating pitch bookings, sweet talking referees or dealing with the onslaught of correspondence, Keith always done so to a high standard and represented our club so well. As with any role within our club, it was done so on a voluntary basis and to dedicate a decade of his life to the club secretary role is no mean feat. We wish Keith the very best of luck in his retirement, although the door is always open should he wish to return! We wish Johnny the best of luck as he takes over from Keith (Rumour has it, he’s going for 11 years at the helm).
The club also wishes to thank outgoing chairman Richie Higgins who announced he is stepping down from his role after a very respectable 5 years in charge. To be the chair of any club is no easy task, but Richie took everything in his stride. During his time in charge, Richie oversaw a myriad club developments, both on and off the field. Most notably was Richie’s participation in the Lord of the Mount Fundraiser. When the club were in need of someone, Richie was first to put his hand up. Together with John G and Molly, this campaign raised over €130,000 for our club. The result of which can be seen standing between our two pitches today, our new dressing rooms and gym. We wish Richie the very best of luck as he steps away from club chair.
Unfortunately, no incoming chair was announced. Any members interested should make it known to an executive committee member.

Division 1 ACFL Round 1
Caulry 2-12
Coralstown/Kinnegad 1-17
Our lads came up short against Coralstown/Kinnegad when they hosted the side in the park for their opening round of the Division 1 ACFL on Saturday afternoon last.
Both sides were slow to settle into proceedings, exchanging early wides. The opposition then opened the scoring account on the 4th minute with a point from play. Playing with a strong breeze at their backs, Coralstown/Kinnegad tagged on scores a lot easier than Caulry in this opening half as by the quarter hour mark, they had notched up an unanswered seven points. A point from Aaron Murphy got our lads off the mark on the 17th minute. Our lads had further chances to score, none of which were successful. Rather, it was the opposition who tore down the field and fired home a goal with five minutes of the first half to play. Before the interval, the sides shared a tally of four points; Luke Buckley and Shane Lawless kicking points either side of a well-taken two-pointer for the visitors to leave them leading 1-9 to 0-3 at the break.
It looked as though the opposition were going to run away with the game throughout the third quarter of play as they added four scores to our two; both of Caulry’s scores were converted-frees by Alan Malynn. Caulry’s hopes were reignited on the 46th minute when we were awarded a penalty, which Malynn dutifully converted to bring the deficit back to eight. Coralstown/Kinnegad momentarily stretched their lead to nine with a point from play on the 51st minute. However, within the space of a couple of minutes, this deficit was almost halved thanks to the new two-point rule after Lawless and Stephen Connolly sent over two fine shots. The opposition’s next score was cancelled out by another fine point from Lawless. Just as the 60th minute elapsed, Alan Malynn put the narrowest of margins between the sides when he fired home a second goal (this time having availed of a pass from his brother Liam). Some people on the sideline were left perplexed by the next sequence of play as the referee signalled a 20m free against Caulry due to our defence momentarily disregarding the 3v3 rule. The opposition made no mistake on this occasion and converted the free to double the deficit. The man in the middle let one more passage of play to materialise which resulted in a Caulry free; Alan Malynn blasted this in towards the goal line, but ultimately, it paid no dividends as Coralstown/Kinnegad will be relieved to have escaped with the win.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Glen Carolan, Kevin Maguire, Olan Healy, Tom Cloonan, Sean Murphy, Harry Stuart Trainor, Stephen Connolly (0-2,1 2pt), Colin Murphy, Sean Clinton, Aaron Murphy (0-1), Shane Lawless (0-4, 1 2pt), Luke Buckley (0-1), Alan Malynn (2-4, 3f, 1 2pt), Alan Daly

Division 1 ACFL Round 2
Caulry 1-13
The Downs 2-11
Our lads came up short against The Downs in their second round clash of the Division 1 ACFL on Saturday afternoon last in their second round park.
Despite owning most of the possession in the opening minutes of play, our lads failed to notch up any scores. Rather, it was The Downs who got off the mark after eight minutes with a fisted-point. Another Caulry attack failed to paid dividends then as the opposition were much more clinical up front with their corner forward rattling home their first of the afternoon’s goals. Caulry patched together some nice football between the 11th and 13th minutes which saw Alan Daly and Luke Buckley adding a duo of points. The sides then shared a tally of 0-4 (both our ours came from converted-frees courtesy of Alan Malynn). Just before the half- time whistle, the visitors tapped over a free of their own to leave the scoreboard reading 1-4 to 0-4 at the interval.
The second half proved to be a very entertaining half hour of football. Caulry had a quick resurgence in the resuming minutes of the half and had the teams on par by the 35th minute after adding 1-1 to The Downs’ 0-1: Shane Lawless was instrumental in both of Caulry scores as he added a point before claiming the resulting kick out alongside Tom Cloonan to set Sean Murphy up for a three-pointer on the 35th minute. The Downs momentarily put Caulry on the back foot again when they fired over a two-pointer. However, a duo of points from Lawless and Malynn reinstated the draw. During this period of play, a myriad of Caulry shots on goal were blocked down and denied thanks to the Trojan work of The Downs defence. Rather, Caulry had to be patient up front and settle for points when they cropped up as scores from Malynn (one from play and one a free) and Tiarnán O’Donovan gave Caulry a dangerous three point lead by the 50th minute. However, this was short lived as the opposition, who were nipping at our heels throughout the game, turned the deficit on its head when they accounted for an unanswered 1-4 within the space of seven minutes. The last few minutes of play became scatty as the pressure from both defences forced wides. The final score of the game came from the boot of O’Donovan but this wasn’t enough for Caulry as once again, our lads saw themselves run out narrow losers.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Glen Carolan, Sean Murphy, Cormac Murphy, Sean Clinton , Kevin Maguire, Olan Healy, Stephen Connolly, Tom Cloonan, Alan Daly (0-1), Shane Lawless (0-2), Oisín Shortall, Luke Buckley (0-1), Tiarnán O’Donovan (0-2), Alan Malynn (0-7, 5f, 1 2pt)
Subs: John Maguire for Alan Daly, Aaron Murphy for Luke Buckley
Division 4 ACFL Round 2
Caulry 3-11
Tyrrellspass 2-13
Our lads escaped with a narrow win over Tyrrellspass on Sunday afternoon last when they hosted the blue and navy side in the park for this Division 4 ACFL fixture.
Caulry made a promising start to proceedings with Ben Kenny firing over a point within 35 seconds of the throw-in. Tyrrellspass weren’t long about finding their feet either and they done so in style on the 2nd minute with a well taken goal from play. Luke Buckley and Adam Donoghue were next to put their names on the scoresheet. By the 8th minute, Caulry led by three when Buckley fired home a goal after a good intercept from Cormac Murphy outfield. With the breeze at his back, Shane Lawless booted over a fine long-range effort then. However, Tyrrellspass brilliantly worked the following kickout and finished with a goal up their end of the field. It was Caulry who finished the half strong, tagging on an unanswered 2-5 to lead by eleven at the interval.
A very different second half was in store as Tyrrellspass chipped away at the deficit bit by bit. They began their retaliation with a smattering of points after the restart: three converted-frees, one of which a two pointer, and a point from play had narrowed the gap to six by the 40th minute. Lawless made a fantastic stride forward on the 42nd minute, but to no avail as his shot was blocked. Rather, we had to wait for Buckley to finish with a point for our next score. Liam Malynn converted a free then which turned out to be our last score of the game as the final quarter of play began. During this period, the tenacious Tyrrellspass side dug deep and rattled off score after score after score. In total, they added 0-10 from a combination of points from play, frees and two-pointers, but ultimately, ran out of time as Caulry were relieved to win by the narrowest of margins.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Ciaran Allen, Luke Hamilton, Cormac Murphy, Glen Carolan, Neil Clinton, David Gaynor, Alan Lynam, Shane Lawless (0-1), Will Buckley, Luke Buckley (2-3), Ben Kenny (0-1), Aaron Murphy (1-2), Liam Malynn (0-3, 3f), Adam Donoghue (0-1)

Division 1 ACFL Round 3
Caulry 1-14
Moate 0-7
Our lads picked up their first brace of points of this year’s Division 1 ACFL with a comprehensive win over Moate in the park on Saturday afternoon last.
Caulry were helped into an early four point led courtesy of two placed-ball kicks both from outside the arc (Alan Malynn and Jack Connaughton the two shooters on target). Moate’s opening point of the game also came from a free, this on the 5th minute. Both sides missed scoring chances then with the next score of the game coming on the 13th minute from the boot of Neil Clinton. Our defence put immense pressure on the Moate forward line and one such example came on the quarter-hour mark when the visitors tagged on another wide. Points from Malynn and Luke Buckley stretched the Caulry lead to six then. Although we racked up a decent first half tally, it wasn’t without it missed opportunities as a myriad of chances went astray (including a goal chance created by Kevin Maguire which was ultimately saved). Moate were next to spilt the posts, again a converted-free. Malynn kicked a couple of two-pointed frees either side of a point from play by Buckley to widen the gap further between the sides. It was Moate who had the last say of the half with another converted-free to trail by 0-12 to 0-3 at the break.
The opposition came out all guns blazing in the second half, launching a trio of attacks, all of which were unsuccessful (one goal saved, one wide and one short). Rather it was Malynn who restarted the scoring from a free up the other end of the field on the 34th minute. It looked as though Caulry might run away with the game three minutes later when Sean Murphy fired home the first and only goal of the game (both Alan Daly and Ben Kenny being instrumental in this set up of play). However, Moate got a bit of a resurgence then, accounting for the next three scores (two frees and one two-pointer from play) to cut into the deficit. Malynn’s free on the 54th minute halted the visitors’ revival, and this transpired to be the final score of the game as the last few minutes became a tad disorganised with a smattering of shots for both sides going wide. Ultimately, our first half rally ensured we had done enough to get over the line and take the win.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton (0-2, 1f, 1 2pt), Glen Carolan, Kevin Maguire, Tom Cloonan, Sean Clinton, Sean Murphy (1-0), Olan Healy, John Maguire, Stephen Connolly, Ben Kenny, Shane Lawless, Alan Daly, Luke Buckley (0-2), Neil Clinton (0-1), Alan Malynn (0-9, 5f, 3 2pt)
Subs: Liam Malynn for Ben Kenny, Johnny Buckley for Glen Carolan
Division 7 ACFL Round 1
Caulry 1-13
Loughnavalley 1-10
Our third team had a good win over Loughnavalley in the park on a sunny Sunday morning last.
Loughnavalley started the game with intent as their forward snuck a goal in past our keeper on the 3rd minute. Brendan McCormack then kicked the first point of the game after making a good stride forward. Dean Burns gave Caulry the lead on the 7th minute when he raised the green flag after combining nicely with Aaron Hanevy. Nicky Killane added a point before Ruiari Casey sent over a two-pointer from a free after Rory Mullins was fouled. Loughnavalley drew a couple of scores back before the interval when they added 0-3 to Caulry’s 0-1 to trail by two at the break.
A trio of points from Brendan McCormack, Ernie Buckley and Killane further stretched the Caulry lead in the opening stages of the second half. However, despite this promising started, the men in green and yellow kept themselves in the game, rattling off five unanswered points to leave it level pegging at the end of the third quarter. McCormack’s 47th minute point from play was cancelled out up the other end of the field then. Johnny Buckley gave Caulry the lead once again on the 52nd minute. Further scores from Killane, Johnny and Burns widened the margins between the sides. Loughnavalley tapped over a late free, but ultimately, our lads had done enough to come away with the win.
Team & Scorers: Ruiari Casey (0-2, 1 2pt, 1f), Ciaran Allen, Johnny Buckley (0-2), Jack O’Meara, Ian Malynn, Ernie Buckley (0-1), Sylvester Coughlan, Mark Fitzpatrick, David Gaynor, Rory Mullins, Brendan McCormack (0-3), Dean Burns (1-1), Aaron Hanevy, Nicky Killane (0-4, 2f), Paddy McMahon

Division 2 League Round 1
Caulry 1-3
Moate 2-13
Our ladies were defeated by a strong Moate side on Saturday last for their opening game of this year’s Division 2 League.
Moate were first to launch an attack straight from the throw-in with Caulry keeper Caoimhe Lawless doing well to keep out the threat. Despite this promising start, it was our girls who got off the line first with Ava Hallissy tapping over a free on the 8th minute. Her sister Leah was next to score then, this from play after Aine Gaynor done well at midfield. The opposition hit a slight purple patch between the 18th and 22nd minutes which yielded four points and briefly gave them the lead. However, Caulry were soon back in front after good vision from Aine when she lobbed the Moate keeper on the 25th minute (her sister Aishling being instrumental in this attack). Moate finished the half, by tapping over a duo of points to leave Caulry trailing by two at the break.
A different second half was in store as Moate completely took charge of proceedings. Despite the best efforts of our defence, the Moate forwards could do no wrong as they fire over a series of points and one goal. Our ladies only managed to tag on one point during this second period as ultimately, Moate ran out comfortable winners.

Division 1 ACFL Round 4
Caulry 1-8
Mullingar Shamrocks 0-13
Our lads came up short against Mullingar Shamrocks when they made the journey to Springfield on a wet and miserable Saturday evening last for Round 4 of the Division 1 ACFL campaign.
Mullingar Shamrocks were first off the mark, converting a free on the 2nd minute after an earlier attempt had fallen wide. Caulry were given a chance then to level the game with a free kick of their own, but Alan Malynn failed to convert. The same man, however, done better at the second time of asking as he fired over a point from play on the 7th minute (this resulting from a patch of nice-combined teamwork from John Maguire and Stephen Connolly). Both sides exchanged wides then as the next score of the game came from another placed ball; this time it was Luke Buckley who tapped over the free as Malynn was forced onto the sideline momentarily having received some intervention from the physio. Upon re-entry Malynn made his presence felt as he fired home a goal after Connolly won possession at midfield to put our noses in front. The home side then kicked the first two-pointer of the game (this coming from a free) to reduce the gap to two. Alan Daly’s 17th minute point was cancelled out up the other end of the field. Shamrocks took control of the game in the closing stages of this first half as they added a tally of 0-5 (three points from play and one two-pointer free) before the interval to lead by the narrowest of margins as the sides retreated to the dressing rooms for halftime.
The undesirable conditions could account for the sloppiness in play to come in the second half as the rate of scores slowed down and tally of wides grew. A series of missed chances for both sides preceded the opening point of the second half which came on the 35th minute when Jack Connaughton equalised with a two-pointer free. The Mullingar side edged in front again with a point from play three minutes later. The scoreline remained 0-9 to 1-5 then for the next twelve minutes as a myriad of missed scoring chances followed. Eventually, Liam Malynn split the posts from a free on the 50th minute to leave the sides level once again. At this stage, it was anyone’s game. The home side sent over another two-pointer free on the 52nd minute and this transpired to be the difference between the two sides. Late points from Maguire and Buckley were cancelled out up the other end of the field as the Mullingar Shamrocks men escaped with the win with two points to spare.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton (0-2, 1f, 1 2pt), Glen Carolan, Kevin Maguire, Tom Cloonan, Olan Healy, Eoghan Grennan, Sean Clinton, Sean Murphy, Stephen Connolly, Ben Kenny, Oisín Shortall, Alan Daly (0–1), Luke Buckley (0-2, 1f), John Maguire (0-1), Alan Malynn (1-1)
Subs: Cody Parker for Sean Murphy, Liam Malynn (0-1, 1f) for Alan Malynn, Adam Donoghue for Ben Kenny, Johnny Buckley for Eoghan Grennan, Will Buckley for Alan Daly
Division 4 ACFL Round 2
Caulry 2-14
Rosemount 3-6
Our Division 4 ACFL side picked up their second brace of points in as many games when they hosted Rosemount in the park on Sunday morning last.
Our lads hit the ground running and notched up 1-1 courtesy of Cody Parker within the opening five minutes of play. Rosemount shortly followed suit with their first three-pointer of the game on the 7th minute after punching a hole in our defence. Shane Lawless sent over a point straight from the following kickout when he was on the receiving end of a massive long-range kick from Ruiari Casey. The next score of the game came via a Rosemount free which was tapped over the bar with ease. Both sides had a number of goal chances within the next few minutes, none of which were successful as the Rosemount men has to settle for a point instead. Our lads finished out the half well, adding 0-4 to Rosemount’s 0-1; Adam Donoghue (after a good intercept outfield by Glen Carolan), Sean Doyle (a fisted effort), Shane Lawless (a well-taken point from play) and Liam Malynn (from a free) were the scorers on target, leaving Caulry leading 1-6 to 1-3 at the break.
Lawless was first to score in the second half before a good save from Casey in goals meant the visitors had to settle for a point on the 33rd minute. Sean Doyle doubled the deficit then when he made a massive stride forward and pocketed himself a goal two minutes later. Between the 37th and 47th minutes, Caulry matched Rosemount’s scores on a 2:1 ratio with Lawless, Donoghue and Malynn all taking their scores well. Kyle Rainey was unlucky not to get a goal of his own on the 48th minute when his effort was well blocked down. Rather it was the opposition who struck lucky three minutes later with their hattrick after a breakdown in our defence. However, it proved to be too little too late for the opposition as a free from Malynn rounded off the scoring and saw our lads run out winners on a scoreline of 2-14 to 3-6.
Team & Scorers: Ruiari Casey, Ciaran Allen, Johnny Buckley, David Gaynor, Alan Daly, Glen Carolan, Cody Parker (1-1), Alan Lynam, Sean Doyle (1-1), Adam Donoghue (0-2), Shane Lawless (0-6), Will Buckley, Liam Malynn (0-4, 4f), Mark Fitzpatrick, Kyle Rainey
Subs: Adam Mullins for Will Buckley, Dean Burns for Kyle Rainey, Dara Shortall for Mark Fitzpatrick
Division 7 ACFL Round 2
Caulry 2-7
Ballycomoyle 1-5
Our Division 7 ACFL side picked up a second consecutive win when they made the journey up to Ballycomoyle on Sunday afternoon last.
Playing against the strong breeze in the opening half, our lads grappled against the conditions and struggled to get scores early on with Ballycomoyle launching multiple attacks; one of which was successful on the 9th minute when a dropping free fell into the back of the Caulry net. Brendan McCormack single-handily brought Caulry back into the game, accounting for all our first half scores. He opened our account on the 12th minute with a point from play before firing home a goal six minutes later to give us a narrow lead. Ballycomoyle sent over a super two-pointer then to reinstate their advantage. The homeside kicked points either side of McCormack’s second point from play as we trailed by two at the break.
Aided by the strong wide, our lads picked up scores easier in the second half. Once again, it was McCormack who was first to score on our behalf as he fired home another goal straight after the throw-in (James Carey giving off a vital pass to set up this piece of play). McCormack added another point before Liam Malynn got his name on the scoresheet on the 38th minute with a converted-free (Dean Burns being the player that was fouled in search of a score). Ballycomoyle only managed to convert one score throughout the second half which came just at the start of the final quarter from a free. Credit must be given to the Caulry defence who worked tirelessly throughout the second half, withstanding the Ballycomoyle threat. Burns, Aaron Hanevy and McCormack all added scores before the final whistle to secure our lads the win on a scoreline of 2-7 to 1-5.
Panel & Scorers: Liam Malynn (0-1, 1f), Ciaran Allen, Ciaran Gaynor, Dara Shortall, Ian Malynn, Ernie Buckley, Adam Mullins, Brendan McCormack (2-4), Rory Mullins, Dean Burns (0-1), Gary Flanagan, James Carey, Paddy McHugh, Nicky Killane, Aaron Hanevy (0-1), Liam Doyle, Paddy O Malley, Willie Buckley, James Daly

U14 League Round 1
Caulry 2-7
Millmore Gaels 5-13
Our U14 boys were defeated by a strong Millmore Gaels side when they hosted the Milltown-Ballymore amalgamation team for Round 1 of this year’s league in the park on Wednesday evening last.
Our boys owned lots of the possession in the opening few minutes with multiple scoring chances; one of which was tapped over the bar by Adam Ledwith on the 3rd minute. Millmore Gaels got off the mark five minutes later when we were penalised for disobeying the 4 up rule and their free-taker dutifully converted. The opposition added another point within seconds then as they pounced on the resulting kickout. Gavin Hennessey drew level with his 11th minute effort. However, the tide then turned against our boys as a well-taken penalty gave Millmore a three-point advantage. Three further points for the opposition preceded our next score of the game which came from the boot of Sean Maguire on the 26th minute. The last couple of minutes of the half proved to be vital as the opposition further stretched their lead with two more goals (one from play having worked the ball down the field and the second a penalty, despite the best efforts of Devon Martin in goal).
Despite being on the back foot throughout the second half, our boys never gave up. Caulry matched Millmore Gaels’ scores in the resuming five minutes with Robert O’Dowd on target. Cillian Moran managed to sneak a goal on the 38th minute from a free to further reduce the gap. The visitors followed this up well with two points (one a free and one from play), before O’Dowd registered our second goal after a superb whole-team effort. Joe Carrol and Ledwith added late scores, these interwoven between a smattering of Millmore Gaels scores, as ultimately, the opposition ran out winners on the evening.
Team & Scorers: Devon Martin, Rory Hassen, Kyle Mason, Charlie Buckley, Joe Walsh, Sean McGuire (0-1), Shea Ledwith, Senan Hatton, Robert O’Dowd (1-2), Daniel Casey, Zach Buckley, Adam Ledwith (0-2, 1f), Joe Carroll (0-1), Cillian Moran (1-0), Gavin Hennesey (0-1)
Ladies Division 2 League Round 2
Caulry 4-6
Athlone 1-13
It was a tale of two halves in the park on a wet and windy Saturday afternoon last when Caulry and Athlone ladies met for their second round of this year’s league.
Caulry were first to launch an attack which trickled out wide before Athlone put themselves in front with two points from play. Lauren White reduced the gap then on the 4th minute with her score from play. Playing with the strong breeze at their backs, Athlone owned a lot of the first half possession, but luckily from a Caulry point of view, the conditions made scoring hard as the girls in blue and white could only convert three of their seven chances to lead by four by the end of the opening ten minutes. Two well taken points from Leah Hallissy then halved the deficit. But just as it seemed like our girls were coming to terms with the conditions, the opposition hit a purple patch which yielded 0-5 in as many minutes. Just before the interval, Hallissy added a point and Aine Gaynor registered a goal as Caulry retreated to the dug out four points behind.
Our girls had a slightly easier task in the second half, playing with the conditions in their favour and it didn’t take them long to reap the rewards as by the 36th minute, Caulry were in the lead; Hallissy and Gaynor added points between a trio of well-taken goals from Jasmine Maloney (Katie Killane and Hallisy combing to set this score up), Hallisy (chipped the keeper with a high ball in) and Molly Connaughton (from the kickout and as a result of a great team effort). Not alone were our forwards now on form, but the Caulry backline defended tenaciously, forcing Athlone to kick a wide at their first time of asking in the second half. The opposition did, however, manage to sneak a super goal on the 42nd minute when their forward booted the ball over her own shoulder and dropped the ball into the top, left corner of the Caulry goal. A converted-free for the opposition reduced the gap back to three as the final quarter loomed. Pressure was high at this stage in the game with both teams in search of a win as wide after wide came flooding in. Rachel Maguire brought off a super save on the 54th minute to keep Caulry in the lead. Eventually, Athlone put an end to the scoring drought with another free on the 57th minute, leaving just two points separating the sides. Credit must be given to the Caulry defence as they stood strong in the remaining minutes of the game, withstanding the Athlone attack and escaping with the win.
Team & Scorers: Rachel Maguire, Susan Duignan, Ruth Martin, Anna Malone, Ciara Nally, Aishling Gaynor, Jasmine Maloney (1-0), Amy Murphy, Ella Corcoran, Ava Hallissy, Aine Gaynor (1-1), Katie Killane, Leah Hallisy (1-4), Molly Connaughton (1-0), Lauren White (0-1)
Subs: Aoife Collins for Lauren White, Caoimhe Lawless for Ava Hallissy

Minor Division 2 League Round 1
Caulry 1-14
Tubberclair 3-15
Our minor boys were defeated in their opening round of the league when they
made the journey to Tubberclair on Monday evening last.
Our lads made a promising start to the game and were three points the better of Tubberclair in as many minutes; Brian Doyle opened the scoring straight from throw-in before Lee Corcoran and Luke Quilty both traded points of their own. The home side’s first attack dropped short, but was eventually tapped over the bar by their no. 11 who done a lot of damage throughout the game. Tubberclair added another point from play prior to the first goal chance of the evening; an effort from Doyle which trickled out wide. Aaron Buckley’s 6th minute point momentarily put two between the sides. However, within a matter of minutes, the opposition had overturned the shoreline in their favour with a trio of unanswered points. As Tubberclair found their shooting boots, our lads seemed to lose theirs as our tally of wides grew. We had to wait until the 21st minute for our next score (a fine effort from Buckley), but by this time, Tubberclair had put four between the sides. Our lads settled for the remaining minutes of the half, adding 0-4 (Corcoran with a free, Adrien Lefebure adding two from play and Dean Martin with one) to Tubberclair’s 1-0 to trail by two at the break.
Tubberclair hit the ground running in the second half as they added 1-2 within the resuming six minutes. A fumble in the Tubberclair defence on the 39th minute resulted in Buckley finding the back of the net to make a dent in the deficit. Between the 41st and 55th minutes, the teams shared eight points with Corcoran (three frees) and Gavin McSharry on target for Caulry. Tubberclair rounded off the scoring with 1-1 late in the game to seal their victory on a scoreline of 3-15 to 1-14.
Team & Scorers: John Paul, Gavin Quilty, Eoin McCormack, Michael McSharry, John McDermott, Daniel Lynam, Tyler Mason, Dean Martin (0-1), Brian Doyle (0-1), Luke Quilty (0-1), Lee Corcoran (0-5, 4f), Adrien Lefebure (0-2), Aaron Buckley (1-2, 1f), Ciaran Dunning, Luke Berry
Subs: Rory Hatton, Sam Hatton, Darragh Martin, Gavin McSharry (0-1), Fionn O’Donovan, Fiona Murphy
Division 4 ACFL Round 3
Caulry 5-12
Ballynacargy 3-13
Our second team kept up their winning ways when they hosted Ballynacargy on a sunset Carn Park on Tuesday evening last for this Round 3 Division 4 ACFL fixture.
Our lads burst out of the tracks with Shane Lawless scoring a point straight from the throw-in. Ballynacargy weren’t long about following suit with a point of their own on the 3rd minute. The visitors to the park then pounced on the following kick out and fired home a goal to take the lead. The men in yellow and blue added three more points to Caulry’s one (Liam Malynn on target after being on the receiving end of a pass from Adam Donoghue). However, the tides turn against Bal then between the 11th and 20th minutes as a quick scoring blitz yielded Caulry 3-1; Malynn tapped over a free before the trio of goals from Malynn (Cody Parker and Will Buckley setting up this attack), Donoghue (after a fine catch and pass by Neil Clinton) and Kyle Rainey (after Thomas Dunning’s initial effort rebounded back of the crossbar). Ballynacargy drew one of these back then when their sub fired the ball back Cillian Nagle into the top corner of the goal. But this was a short-lived relief as within seconds Lawless booted home Caulry’s fourth goal of the game after running the length of the field. The teams shared five points before the interval with Malynn adding two Caulry points to leave the scoreboard reading 4-5 to 2-7 at the break.
Our lads scuppered a few chances early in the second half as Ballynacargy were first to score with a converted-free. Donoghue restarted the Caulry scoring on the 41st minute, and this was closely followed by a well-taken goal by Malynn after a superb run up the field by David Gaynor. The sides exchanged frees then. The opposition brought it back to a five point game on the 50th when they tapped over a two-pointer free. Clinton’s 52nd minute point then preceded the game’s eighth goal when Ballynacargy managed to raise the green flag at the third point of asking (Johnny Buckley brought off a block initially, before a second attempt rattled off the crossbar). Points from Donoghue and Malynn were cancelled out up the other end of the field. Caulry then saw out the game with Lawless adding a duo of points to seal the 5-12 to 3-13 win.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, David Gaynor, Johnny Buckley, Alan Lynam, Cody Parker, Neil Clinton (0-1), Alan Daly, John Maguire, Shane Lawless (1-3), Ben Kenny, Thomas Dunning, Will Buckley, Kyle Rainey (1-0), Liam Malynn (2-6, 3f), Adam Donoghue (1-2)
Subs: Mark Fitzpatrick for Ben Kenny
Division 7 ACFL Round 3
Caulry 2-9
Maryland 4-14
Our third team suffered a defeat at the hands of Maryland on Thursday evening last when they hosted the men in blue and white for Round 3 of this year’s Division 7 ACFL.
Maryland were helped into an early lead after a breakdown in our defence resulted in a goal. The opposition added a free then before widening the gap further with 2-2 in quick succession. Nicky Killane opened our scoring account on the 15th minute with a two-pointer free. The visitors went on to out score Caulry on a 3:1 ratio with Gary Flanagan in target to leave us trailing at the halftime whistle.
Maryland resumed the second half scoring with a fine two-pointer on the 32nd minute. David Gaynor gave Caulry a bit of hope when he fired home a goal then (this coming after a fine catch at midfield from Johnny Buckley). A converted-free from Flanagan further reduced the gap. However, Maryland weren’t long about rallying again as they rattled off 1-3 in quick succession. Our lads took charge of the last quarter as we out scored the men in blue and white 1-4 to 0-2; Brendan McCormack, Killane and Liam Doyle added the points while Philip Flanagan took his goal well on the 53rd minute. Ultimately, Maryland has the damage done in the earlier stages of the game as they ran out comfortable winners.
Team & Scorers: Ruiari Casey, Ciaran Allen, Ciaran Gaynor, Sylvester Coughlan, Jay Walker, Ernie Buckley, David Gaynor (1-0), Rory Mullins, Brendan McCormack (0-1), James Daly, Mark Fitzpatrick, James Carey, Nicky Killane (0-4, 3f, 1 2pt.), Gary Flanagan (0-2, 1f), Paddy McHugh
Subs: Johnny Buckley for Jay Walker, Paddy McMahon for James Carey, Stephen Brookes for Paddy McHugh, Jack O’Meara for Ruiari Casey, Liam Doyle (0-2) for James Daly, Philip Flanagan (1-0) for Gary Flanagan
Division 1 ACFL Round 5
Caulry 3-11
Athlone 0-14
Our seniors picked up their second brace of points when they made the journey to Páirc Chiaráin on a sunny Sunday morning last.
Athlone hit the ground running with a point straight from the throw-in. The homeside then tapped over a free before Caulry got going, doing so in style when John Maguire rattled the back of the Athlone net after a fine ball in by Shane Lawless. Lawless was the play maker again for our second score; this time he was fouled and Alan Malynn dutifully converting the ensuing free. By the 10th minute, Caulry had built up a healthy five-point lead after Malynn fired home our second goal of the game (having won a ball in from Stephen Connolly). The opposition drew two back then with a well-taken two-pointer on the 17th minute. Athlone began taking their scores better at this stage in the game as the sides shared 0-4 with Connolly and Lawless on target. On the 28th minute, it looked as though there was a goal on for Athlone when their no. 11 strode forward. However, Damien Dolan skilfully intervened and turned the ball over. What should have been an Athlone goal resulted in Caulry’s hattrick after Harry Stuart Trainor pocketed this three-pointer to leave the scoreboard reading 3-3 to 0-6 at the break.
Lawless restarted the second half scoring with a superb two-pointer (Sean Murphy, Luke Buckley and Stuart Trainor all giving a hand in setting up this score). By the 40th minute, it looked like the game was over as further scores from Malynn and Lawless saw our lead stretched to ten; Athlone’s only score during this period coming from a free. Between the 48th and 55th minutes, Athlone got a bit of pep in their step as they brought the deficit back to four; two two-pointers, from a free and from play, and two singular points from play slicing the deficit. Connolly momentarily broke the opposition’s momentum with his 58th minute point. Before the full-time whistle, the sides traded a score apiece; Athlone’s midfielder firing over a point from play and Jack Connaughton converting a two-pointer free to seal Caulry’s win on a scoreline of 3-11 to 0-14.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton (0-2, 1 2pt., 1f), Glen Carolan, Sean Murphy, Olan Healy, Eoghan Grennan, Damien Dolan, Sean Clinton, Stephen Connolly (0-2), Colin Murphy, Shane Lawless (0-4, 1 2pt.), Harry Stuart Trainor (1-0), Cody Parker, Luke Buckley, John Maguire (1-0), Alan Malynn (1-3, 1f)
Subs: Neil Clinton for Colin Murphy, Thomas Dunning for Damien Dolan, Alan Lynam for Luke Buckley

U16 League Round 2
Caulry 9-13
Lilliput Gaels 1-8
Our U16 boys had a comprehensive win over Lilliput Gaels in the park on Monday evening last for their second game of the league.
Our boys started the game with intent as Gavin McSharry fired home a goal straight from the throw-in. Lilliput Gaels kicked the first point of the game after two minutes. Kevin O’Brien set Darragh Martin up for his first goal of the game then after a good pass in. The opposition kicked two consecutive points to reduce the gap somewhat. Our boys then got three goals in quick succession; Rhys Mason after a good run through the centre, Martin after Mason caught the ball at midfield and Mason again, this time with a soccer-style effort. At this point in the game, our boys never looked back with six players adding further to the scoreline between the 14th and 28th minutes (McSharry, Martin, Mason, Luke Berry, O’Brien and Sam Hatton). Lilliput Gaels saw out the half though with 1-1 to trail at the break.
The second half followed in much the same vein with the Caulry boys dominating throughout. Early scores from McSharry and Martin furthered the margins between the sides. The Caulry subs done well when introduced with a couple of them adding to the scoreline. Ultimately, our boys proved too strong for the opposition and ran out winners.
Team & Subs: Devon Martin, Conor Padden, Tom Madden, Cathal Casey, Brian Moran, Luke Berry, Darragh Belton, Ewan Kelly, Gavin McSharry, Caelan O’Neill, Rhys Mason, Kevin O’Brien, Ryan Doyle, Sam Hatton, Darragh Martin, Senan Hatton, Marcus Grant, Sionnach Winters, Stephen O’Reilly, Evan Allen
Girls’ U14 League Round 1
Caulry 6-10
Garrycastle 6-8
Our U14 girls and Garrycastle served up an entertaining hour of football in the park on Thursday evening last for their opening game of the league.
Our girls started the game well with Lexi Grady scoring straight away. Garrycastle opened their account on the 5th minute with a free. The visitors tapped over the next two points to take the lead. Grady pointed for a second time then after a good run forward. However, the gap between the sides was widened within minutes as Garrycastle rattled off 3-2 in quick succession. Grady drew back one of these goals after a pass in by Chloe Doyle on the 13th minute. But, Garrycastle saw out the half, adding 1-1 to our 0-1 (this from Gemma Dungan) to lead by six at the break.
Kelly Lynam kicked the first two scores of the second half to chip away at the deficit. However, this progress was shortly overturned as the Garrycastle girls rattled off an unanswered 1-1. To credit our girls, they never gave up as Lynam, Cara Winters and Roisin Mulvihill all added to the scoreline then. Doyle’s goal on the 45th minute made it just a two-point game (Lynam and Caoimhe Browne playing important roles in setting up this score). However, our relief was short-lived as Garrycastle registered their fifth goal of the game within seconds. This didn’t deter our girls though as Mulvihill added a point before further goals from Lynam and Winters put our girls in front for the first time since the start of the game. In a game of twists and turns, it was like Deja Vu as the concession of 1-1 saw the visitors take the lead once again. Kate Corcoran’s point on the 60th minute left just one point between the sides. At this stage in the game, our girls dug deep as Corcoran strode forward and snuck a goal past a packed Garrycastle defence to take the lead. The referee allowed one more play to transpire but ultimately, Garrycastle couldn’t overturn the deficit as our girls pick up their first brace of points of the campaign.
Team & Subs: Grace O’Rourke, Annie Doyle, Ellie Buckley, Carla Grant, Sarah Dolan, Ellen Shortall, Grace Berry, Cara Winters, Tara Ledwith, Grace Hallissy, Roisin Mulvihill, Lexi Grady, Emme Fitzgerald, Chloe Doyle, Lily Ann King, Caoimhe Brown, Katie Claffey, Kate Corcoran, Gemma Duncan, Kelly Lynam
Boys’ Minor Division 2 League Round 2
Caulry 1-8
Killucan 5-10
Killucan proved too strong for our minor boys when the yellow bellies made the journey to the park on a fine Friday evening last.
Despite Caulry launching the first two attacks, it was the opposition who opened the scoring with a point from play after two minutes. Killucan’s first goal of the evening then preceded our opening point; this from the boot of Simon O’Gady having availed of the solo and go rule. Dean Martin then converted a fine two-pointer after Eoin McCormack intercepted the Killucan kick out. By the 7th minute, it was all-square after Luke Berry’s point. Things took a turn for the worse then from a Caulry point of view as the concession of 2-2 helped Killucan into a healthy eight-point lead. Cian Malone was the next Caulry player to score with his effort coming on the 23rd minute after Lee Corcoran won the opposition’s kick out. However, Killucan were very much in charge of the running order as they converted another 1-1 to lead well at the break.
A similar second half was in store as the boys in yellow and white ran riot, adding score after score, occasionally using the game as target practice as their tally of wides grew as high. It took our boys until the 55th minute to re-open our scoring when O’Grady converted a penalty after a foul on Berry. O’Grady (from play and from a free) and Corcoran (a free) added late points. But, ultimately, Killucan ran out comfortable winners on the evening.
Team & Scorers: Fionn O’Donovan, Michael McSharry, Rory Hatton, Gavin Quilty, John McDermott, Eoin McCormack, Gavin McSharry, Lee Corcoran (0-1, 1f), Dean Martin (0-2, 1 2pt.), Daniel Lynam, Simon O’Grady (1-3, 1f), Luke Berry (0-1), Aaron Buckley, Cian Malone (0-1), Ciaran Dunning
Subs: Sam Hatton, Fionn Murphy, Tristan Dolan, Darragh Martin, Adrien Lefebure, Luke Quilty
Ladies’ Division 2 League Round 3
Caulry 3-4
Loughnavalley 3-21
Our ladies suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Loughnavalley on a wet and cold Sunday morning last.
The homeside started well and had notched up 1-2 before our girls got off the mark; Ava Hallissy doing so on the 8th minute after Aine Gaynor’s initial attempt dropped short. Karrissa Burns was unlucky on the 10th minute when her effort rattled back off the crossbar as it was the opposition who were next two score as they added two points from play. The teams exchanged points then with Hallissy adding Caulry’s second score of the game. Our girls patched together two consecutive goals on the 17th minute to momentarily take the lead; Hallissy firing home the first one after Loughnavalley’s defence broke down and Gaynor adding the second from a way out. Burns put Caulry two points the good then with her effort on the 20th minute (Molly Connaughton combining here to set up the score). However, Loughnavalley weren’t long about putting things right as they saw out the half with 1-5 in quick succession to lead at the break.
Inside the third quarter, only three scores were exchanged with Burns tapping over a Caulry point on the 41st minute. Our girls were dealt a blow then as Aishling Gaynor was forced to the sideline due to injury and at this point in the game, the homeside completely took charge adding 1-7 to their tally. Connaughton and Aine combined well on the 60th minute to set up the Gaynor for a goal, but ultimately, Loughnavalley had done enough to secure their win.
Team & Scorers: Rachel Maguire, Ciara Nally, Ruth Martin, Anna Malone, Susan Duignan, Aishling Gaynor, Aoife Collins, Jasmine Maloney, Ella Corcoran, Leah Hallissy, Aine Gaynor (2-0) Katie Killane, Ava Hallissy (1-2), Molly Connaughton, Karrissa Burns (0-2)
Subs: Siun Lyons for Aishling Gaynor, Aisling Murphy for Ciara Nally, Laura Woods for Ava Hallissy, Caoimhe Lawless for Katie Killane, Michelle Flynn for Leah Hallissy

Division 4 ACFL Round 4
Caulry 3-6
Ballinagore 3-19
Our second team suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Ballinagore in their latest Division 4 ACFL game on Thursday evening last.
Our lads started the game well by adding two early scores; Liam Malynn tapped over a free inside the opening minute before Adam Donoghue found Thomas Dunnimg with a pass and Dunning dutifully converted this opportunity. The home side opened their scoring account then on the 8th minute with a point from play. Ballinagore dominated the following series of kick outs as they notched up a tally of 0-5 in as many minutes to take the lead. Cody Parker momentarily stalled the opposition’s advances as he moved the ball up the field before finishing with a well-taken point. However, within minutes the deficit was doubled once again as Ballinagore replied with 1-1 in quick succession. The game was competitive right throughout this first half as by the 25th minute it was all-square; Goals from Dunning (Neil Clinton sending in a vital pass for this score) and Alan Lynam (who found himself in scoring position after making good advances forward), and a point from Kyle Rainey (Cormac Murphy winning the kick out to set up this score) tied up the game. The referee and umpire then awarded Ballinagore a 29th minute goal despite Ernie Buckley’s intervention as this score proved to be the difference between the sides at the break.
Our lads struggled to get to the pace of the game in the second half and didn’t score at all until the last five minutes of play. By this time, Ballinagore, who dominated the midfield area throughout this period, had notched up a respectable tally of 3-17. Malynn converted a free on the 56th minute to restart our scoring. The home side then kicked points either side of a Caulry goal (this from Nicky Killane after some hard work outfield by Malynn and Rory Mullins). Murphy rounded off the evening’s scoring with his late point as ultimately, Ballinagore cruised into the win with a strong second half performance.
Team & Scorers: Ernie Buckley, Ciaran Allen, Johnny Buckley, Ciaran Gaynor, Cormac Murphy (0-1), Alan Lynam (1-0), David Gaynor, Neil Clinton, Glen Carolan, Cody Parker (0-1), Thomas Dunning (1-1), Will Buckley, Adam Donoghue, Liam Malynn (0-2, 2f), Kyle Rainey (0-1)
Subs: Mark Fitzpatrick for Cody Parker, Paddy McHugh for Glen Carolan, Rory Mullins for Kyle Rainey, Dara Shortall for Will Buckley, Nicky Killarney (1-0) for Thomas Dunning
Division 1 ACFL Round 6
Caulry 1-13
Shandonagh 0-12
Our seniors clawed back a two-point deficit at halftime to come away with a victory when they made the journey to Shandonagh for their latest Division 1 ACFL fixture on Holy Saturday last.
Our lads hit the ground running when Conor McCormack sent over a two-pointer inside the opening 35 seconds of play. Shandonagh put their first score on the scoreboard then after five minutes. A converted-free by Alan Malynn and point from play by Sean Murphy (this coming after a patient build up via Olan Healy, Cody Parker and Tiarnán O’Donovan) were cancelled out up the other end of the field as the home side registered their first two-pointer of the game. Between the 13th and 15th minutes, the opposition completely controlled the Caulry kick out as they took the lead with four unanswered points. Parker and Kevin Maguire combined well on the 18th minute as Caulry almost had a goal but the Shandonagh keeper intervened to keep a clean sheet. O’Donovan’s two-pointer kept us in touching distance (this a very well worked score from a sideline kick as O’Donovan orchestrated a one-two before firing the ball over the bar). Shandonagh added two points to our one before the interval to lead 0-9 to 0-7 at the break (Parker adding Caulry’s last score after once again combining with Maguire).
A duo of McCormack points had the sides all square by the 32nd minute; McCormack tapped over a free after Sean Clinton was fouled before adding a point from play after a break down in Shandonagh’s defence. The opposition momentarily reinstated their lead with a similar brace of scores as it was still all to play for heading into the last ten minutes of the game. Our lads had a myriad of chances then to take the lead but only managed to convert two of these; Connolly and Maguire on target to level the game once again. The pivotal moment came on the 54th minute when Jack Connaughton brought off what would have been a game-changing score. Connaughton intervened for a second time within seconds (this time when no. 11’s shot fell short) as it gave our lads a chance to set up a counter attack. What should have been a Shandonagh goal resulted in a three-pointer for Caulry when Maguire finished to the back of the net having combined nicely with Malynn. McCormack stretched our lead to four then with another free. The sides shared late points but ultimately, our lads had done enough to pick up their third brace of points of this year’s campaign.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton, Glen Carolan, Kevin Maguire (1-1), Olan Healy, Sean Clinton, Damien Dolan, Eoghan Grennan, Stephen Connolly (0-1), Sean Murphy (0-1), Shane Lawless, Tiarnán O’Donovan (0-2, 1 2pt.) , Cody Parker (0-1), Conor McCormack (0-6, 1 2pt., 3f), John Maguire, Alan Malynn (0-1, 1f)

Boys’ U16 League Round 3
Caulry 3-6
St. Loman’s 4-15
Our U16 boys were defeated by St. Loman’s when they hosted the Mullingar side in the park on Easter Monday last.
Our lads hit the ground running when Luke Berry fired home a goal straight from the throw-in. The sides shared four points then with Sam Hatton on target for Caulry. Despite multiple interventions from Devon Martin in goals throughout this first passage, the opposition managed to sneak in their first three-pointer on the 12th minute to put their noses in front. The Mullingar side added 1-3 to their tally before the interval with Caulry converting three points from Gavin McSharry, Ryan Doyle and Hatton to trail at the break.
Our boys made a good start to the second half when Doyle got a goal after pulling on a loose ball. However, it wasn’t long before St. Loman’s settled back into proceedings as they took their scores with ease to widen the gap once again. Interspersed between the opposition’s scores, Caulry added 1-1 (Darragh Martin on target for both) as ultimately, the Mullingar side eased into the win.
Team & Scorers: Devon Martin, Brian Moran, Tom Madden, Marcus Grant, Senan Hatton, Darragh Belton, Cathal Casey, Gavin McSharry (0-1), Ewan Kelly, Caelan O’Neill, Luke Berry (1-0), Kevin O’Brien, Ryan Doyle (1-1), Sam Hatton (0-3, 2), Darragh Martin (1-1)

Boys’ U14 Football
League Round 3
Caulry 2-4
Multyfarnham 4-10
Our U14 boys were defeated by Multyfarnham when they hosted the side in the park on Wednesday evening last.
Caulry started the game well with Senan Hatton opening the scoring account within the first minute. Multyfarnham soon put their noses in front with a myriad of points and two well-taken goals. This gave them a platform to work off for the entirety of the remainder of the game. Hatton kicked a duo of points on the 23rd and 26th minutes. Aengus Baker then had it back to a five-point game when he took advantage of the solo and go rule and fired the ball to the back of the net just before the interval.
On the resumption, early Multyfarnham points further stretched their lead. Robert O’Dowd rattled the back of the opposition’s net on the 39th minute when he pulled on a loose ball after Hatton’s initial effort was saved. Hatton converted our last score of the game in the 55th minute (this a free after Baker was fouled) but ultimately, Multyfarnham proved too strong for our boys on the evening.
Team & Scorers: Devon Martin, Shea Ledwith, Rory Hasson, Charlie Buckley, Joe Walsh, Kyle Mason, Ruiari Corcoran, Robert O’Dowd (1-0), Senan Hatton (0-4, 1f), Gavin Hennessy, Sean Maguire, Cillian Moran, Joe Carroll, Zach Buckley, Aengus Baker (1-0)

Challenge
Caulry 4-11
Milltownpass 5-04
The Caulry lads travelled to Milltownpass recently to take on the local team which turned out to be an entertaining match for all present.
Caulry won the throw in, and Senan Hatton drove straight at the opposition setting up Gavin Henessy for the opening point of the game. Caulry dominated the next 15 mins with scores from Zach Buckley, Cillian Moran, Senan Hatton and Abdullah Awan before Milltownpass replied with two goals of their own. Keeper Devon Martin was orchestrating attacks via his accurate kick outs and Kyle Mason and Charlie Buckley were thwarting many opposition attacks and counter attacking with great success. Robert O’Dowd was linking up well with defence and assisting the forward unit which resulted in two final points before half time from Robert and Senan leaving Caulry 2-06 to 2-01 at the break.
Upon resumption Milltownpass started much stronger and put over two points before Caulry replied with a well taken Cillian Moran goal after good work from Rory Hasson, Daniel Casey and Ruairi Corcoran. Gavin Hennessy followed up with a point, assisted by Shea Ledwith and Robert O’Dowd. Milltownpass had their purple patch scoring 1-01 before Caulry took back control with Ruairi Corcoran intercepting the opposition kick outs on several occasions and linking up well with Conor Lynch and Cillian Moran resulting in scoring 1-04 from Zach, Robert and Senan. Kyle Mason, Shea Ledwith, Daniel Casey and Charlie Buckley continued to impress with their surges out of defence. Milltownpass did manage a couple of late scores but Caulry emerged victorious at the final whistle.
This was a very entertaining game and no doubt these teams will meet again this season.
Team & Scorers: Devon Martin, Rory Hasson, Kyle Mason, Charlie Buckley, Shea Ledwith, Daniel Casey, Robert O’Dowd (0-2), Senan Hatton (0-4), Gavin Hennessy (0-2), Zach Buckley (1-2), Ruairi Corcoran, Abdullah Awen (1-0), Cillian Moran (2-1), Conor Lynch
Ladies Division 2 League Round 4
Caulry 2-5
Coralstown/Kinnegad 0-14
Our ladies came up short against Coralstown/Kinnegad when they hosted the side in the park on Sunday afternoon last for their fourth round of the league.
Coralstown/Kinnegad were helped into a lead with a myriad of points from playing within the opening five minutes. Aine Gaynor kicked our one and only score of this half after eight minutes when her free kick dropped short and into the back of the opposition’s net. It was the visitors who impressed mostly up front throughout the game as they took their points from any and every angle. We did have some chances which we failed to convert. One such example saw Ava Hallissy’s goal shot being well blocked down on the 25th minute as Coralstown/Kinnegad punished us with a point from play to lead by five at the break.
Our girls took their chances better in the second half. Lauren White pointed on the 35th minute after a good move by Jasmine Maloney. Gaynor converted a free after a duo of Coralstown/Kinnegad points before the same girl fired home a goal (this time it was Karrissa Burns who was instrumental in setting up the score). Maloney finished with a point on the 49th minute before Kate Stuart Trainor and Gaynor both added late scores as ultimately, Coralstown/Kinngead escaped with the win.
Team & Scorers: Rachel Maguire, Susan Duignan, Ruth Martin, Anna Malone, Aisling Murphy, Aishling Gaynor, Jasmine Maloney (0-1), Ella Corcoran, Amy Murphy, Karrissa Burns, Aine Gaynor (2-2, 1f), Leah Hallissy, Ava Hallissy, Molly Connaugthon, Lauren White (0-1)

Division 4 ACFL Round 5
Caulry 4-9
St. Mary’s Rochfortbridge 0-9
Our Division 4 ACFL team had a good win over St. Mary’s when they made the journey to Rochfortbridge on Thursday evening last.
Kyle Rainey opened the scoring account after five minutes with a point from play, having availed of a good pass by Sean Doyle. Doyle was instrumental again for our second score of the evening; this time he laid the ball off the Neil Clinton who finished with a goal. Liam Malynn put Caulry six points the good then with a well-taken two-pointer. By the end of this first quarter, the lead was extended to ten; a fumble in front of the Rochfortbridge goal saw Thomas Dunning’s effort land into the back of the net before Will Buckley fisted over a point to increase the lead. St. Mary’s kicked their first and second scores of the game within the 19th minute to get their name on the scoresheet. The sides were evenly matched in the last couple of minutes of this half as they shared 0-4; Cody Parker adding both Caulry scores to lead 2-6 to 0-4 at the break.
The Rochfortbridge men started the second half with a score inside 40 seconds. Rainey fired home a goal then after combining nicely with Mark Fitzpatrick. However, St. Mary’s drew this back with a couple of points; one a two-pointer free and the other from play. There was a ten-minute famine of scores then as the next point came from the boot of Thomas Dunning on the 50th minute. Aaron Murphy then got a touch to a dropping free by Malynn to send the ball over the bar. Super sub Jack O’Meara done well when introduced as he tore forward and chipped the keeper on the 58th minute to restore our ten-point cushion. St. Mary’s were last the add to the scoreline with a point from play but ultimately, our lads cruised into the win.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Ciaran Allen, Cormac Murphy, Ciaran Gaynor, Alan Daly, Neil Clinton (1-0), Cody Parker (0-2), Sean Doyle, David Gaynor, Will Buckley (0-1), Thomas Dunning (1-1), Kyle Rainey (1-1), Liam Malynn (0-3, 1f, 1 2pt.), Mark Fitzpatrick, Aaron Murphy (0-1)
Subs: Jack O’Meara (1-0) for Mark Fitzpatrick
Division 1 ACFL Round 7
Caulry 1-16
Tyrrellspass 2-9
Our seniors picked up their fourth brace of points when they made the journey to Tyrrellspass on Saturday evening last for their Round 7 of the Division 1 ACFL.
Tiarnán O’Donovan opened the scoring account with his point from play on the 4th minute. Tyrrellspass soon levelled things up with a point up the other end of the field. A Tyrrellspass attack broke down on the 6th minute and this gave Caulry a platform to build on the counter-attack as the ball was worked up the field via Shane Lawless before Alan Malynn finished to the back of the net, giving Caulry a lead we would not relinquish. The homeside were wasteful up front as a smattering of chances went wide. Our lads were more successful in their endeavours as we accounted for the next five points; Sean Murphy (a tidy finish), Malynn (after Sean Clinton and John Maguire combined under the breaking ball), Shane Lawless (a duo of points on the 20th and 22nd minutes) and Oisín Shortall (Maguire again claiming the kickout) were the men on target. Tyrrellspass saw out the half with somewhat of a comeback as they outscored Caulry 0-5 to 0-1 in the last three minutes of the half; the homeside added two fine two pointers before the sides exchanged frees to leave Caulry leading 1-7 to 0-6 at the break.
The first score of the second half came in the form of a Caulry free from Jack Connaughton. Tyrrellspass converted a similar score then up their end of the field on the 35th minute. Stephen Connoly and O’Donovan added points prior to a converted Tyrrellspass penalty which brought the deficit back to three. The sides exchanged frees on the 47th and 50th minutes. Connolly stretched the Caulry lead to five then when he booted over a two pointer after a patient move. O’Donovan and Neil Clinton added points on the 54th and 55th minutes. To credit Tyrrellspass, they kept chomping at our heels as a quick-fire 1-1 brought the gap back to two. Shortall was the last person to score late in the half to secure Caulry the win on a scoreline of 1-16 to 2-9.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton (0-2, 2f), Glenn Carolan, Kevin Maguire, Olan Healy, Eoghan Grennan, Damien Dolan, Sean Clinton, Stephen Connolly (0-3, 1 2pt.), Sean Murphy (0-1), Shane Lawless (0-2), Oisín Shortall (0-2), Cody Parker, Tiarnán O’Donovan (0-3), John Maguire, Alan Malynn (1-2, 1f)

Boys’ Minor League Round 4
Caulry 1-11
Coralstown/Kinnegad 2-8
Our minor boys had to settled for a share of the spoils on Friday evening last when they hosted Coralstown/Kinnegad for Round 4 of the league.
Points from Gavin McSharry and Lee Corcoran gave Caulry the lead early on before Coralstown/Kinnegad went in front courtesy of a goal after a break down in our attack on the 9th minute. Corcoran levelled things up then with a converted-free. By the 23rd minute, our boys were back in front, this time by three points after well taken scores from Corcoran (another free and one from play) and Daniel Lynam. Before the interval, the visitors tapped over two points to lead by the narrowest of margins.
The sides were evenly matched throughout the second half as the teams cancelled out one another’s points; Dean Martin was on target for Caulry in the early stages of the half. Our boys momentarily stretched the lead to five by the 38th minute; Corcoran fired over a fine two-pointer before Brian Doyle rattled home a goal after a good catch from Tyler Mason outfield. Coralstown/Kinnegad kept their composure as a couple of points kept the scoreboard ticking over. The visitors then struck lucky on the 48th minute as this goal overturned the scoreline in their favour. Corcoran’s free tied things up again on the 51st minute as neither team was going to lie down. The opposition went ahead then with a point from play. They held onto this lead for just four minutes as on the 55th minute, the same boy who opened the scoring account, closed the scoring account when McSharry added his second point. Both teams had late chances which they failed to convert as the sides had to settle for a draw.
Team & Scorers: Fionn O’Donovan, Fionn Murphy, John Paul, Gavin Quilty, John McDermott, Rory Hatton, Daniel Lynam (0-1), Dean Martin (0-1), Brian Doyle (1-0), Gavin McSharry (0-2), Cian Malone, Luke Berry, Aaron Buckley, Lee Corcoran (0-7, 3f, 1 2pt.), Simon O’Grady
Subs: Tyler Mason for Luke Berry, Luke Quilty for Cian Malone, Luke Nolan for Aaron Buckley, Tristian Dolan for Gavin Quilty
Ladies Division 2 League Round 5
Caulry 4-11
Killucan 4-9
Caulry and Killucan provided an entertaining hour of football in the park on a sunny Sunday morning last for this Round 5 league clash.
Our girls owned most of the possession in the early stages of the game but couldn’t convert all scoring opportunities as only two chances were successful: these from Aine Gaynor and Megan Clinton. Killucan opened their scoring account on the 10th minute and after a second on the 11th, it was level pegging. The visitors were more clinical up front as by the end of this first quarter, they lead by four after converting 1-1 in quick succession. The sides shared six points during the remainder of the half with Gaynor, Aishling Gaynor and Leah Quigley adding Caulry scores to leave us behind by four at the break.
Killucan got off to a great start in the second half after a fumble in our defence resulted in a goal. However, Aine Gaynor was on fire up front as she accounted for the next three scores of the game; she tapped over two frees before hitting the back of the Killucan net on the 39th minute after a good pass in by Quigley. The visitors settled proceedings somewhat then with a point from play to widen the gap to three at the end of the third quarter. However, within a matter of minutes the scoreline was turned on its head when Gaynor booted home two more goals; the first one from a free which the referee had signalled had passed the line and the second after another fine pass from Quigley. Our girls accounted for the next four points of the game then; Gaynor adding two frees, and Megan Clinton and Katie Killane adding from play. At this point there was only five minutes remaining and it looked at though Caulry were home and hosed but the Killucan contingent weren’t going to hang up their boots that quick; the yellow bellies firstly registered a goal at the second time of asking (Rachel Maguire had previously denied the side a penalty with a good save). A Killucan point brought it back to a three-point game, and then by the 58th minute, it was all-square as the opposition got their fourth goal of the match. Killucan, now dominate under our kickout, used this to their advantage as they nosed in front with a well taken point. It looked as though our girls were going to fall short but Jasmine Maloney was yet to have her say; she tore forward and drove the ball into the top right corner of the Killucan net to regain the Caulry lead. This transpired to be the last play of the game as our girls were delighted to escape with the win after a hard-fought contest.
Team & Scorers: Rachel Maguire, Susan Duignan, Ruth Martin, Anna Malone, Ella Corcoran, Amy Murphy, Grace Shortall, Jasmine Maloney (1-0), Aishling Gaynor (0-1), Megan Clinton (0-2), Leah Quigley (0-1), Karrissa Burns, Molly Connaughton, Aine Gaynor (3-6, 4f), Katie Killane (0-1)
Subs: Aoife Collins for Anna Malone

Division 4 ACFL Round 6
Caulry 4-13
Garrycastle 2-12
Our second team battled it out against Garrycastle in the park on Tuesday evening last for this Round 6 fixture of the Division 4 ACFL.
The sides exchanged early scores from placed-balls with Garrycastle converting a free before Luke Buckley tapped over a '45' for us. Buckley then kicked the first score from play; this a fine two-pointer on the 8th minute. The sides shared four points then before the end of the first quarter with Adam Donoghue and Neil Clinton adding points (two fisted efforts that were well worked). Aaron Murphy got the first goal of the game then straight from the kickout with Sean Murphy had won under the break. Once again, the game went on a tit-for-tat basis as Garrycastle cancelled out points from Murphy and Buckley. Buckley then widened the gap to ten late in the half with another converted '45' and a goal (this after combining nicely with John Maguire). The opposition made a slight dent in the deficit however, adding a goal late in the half to trail 2-10 to 1-6 at the break.
Buckley restarted the second half scoring with a point inside the first 30 seconds of throw-in. Garrycastle brought the deficit back to four when they opened up our defence and finished with a goal. The rate of scores then plateaued as Harry Stuart Trainor's and Maguire's points were cancelled out at the other end of the field. Cody Parker struck lucky on the 51st minute when he made his way in from the corner and somehow got a goal that never looked on. Garrycastle, however, weren't deterred by this as they went in search of a goal of their own. They had three shots in a matter of minutes, none of which were successful thanks to two brilliant saves from Cillian Nagle and one courtesy of the woodwork. Eventually, the men in green and red had to settled for a point on the 53rd minute. Stuart Trainor made a brilliant stride forward on the 57th minute and fired for a goal which rebounded back before Liam Malynn's helping hand helped it into the net. Garrycastle added two late points, but ultimately, they chased the deficit throughout as this win sees our lads pick up their fifth brace of points.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, David Gaynor, Johnny Buckley, Cormac Murphy, Alan Daly, Neil Clinton (0-1), Cody Parker (1-1), John Maguire (0-1), Sean Murphy, Kyle Rainey, Luke Buckley (1-6, 2 '45', 1 2pt.), Will Buckley, Adam Donoghue (0-1), Mark Fitzpatrick, Aaron Murphy (1-2)
Subs: Harry Stuart Trainor (0-1) for Mark Fitzpatrick, Liam Malynn (1-0) for Kyle Rainey, Ciaran Allen for Cody Parker, Nicky Killane for Will Buckley
Division 1 ACFL Round 8
Caulry 2-14
Garrycastle 4-13
Our seniors came up short against Garrycastle in the park in Saturday evening last for their penultimate round of the Division 1 ACFL.
Shane Lawless opened the scoring account in style when he fired over a two-pointer inside the opening 60 seconds of throw-in. However, by the end of the 2nd minute, the visitors to the park were in front as they added 1-1 in quick succession. Garrycastle looked dangerous up front by times with Jack Connaughton having to deny them another goal on the 4th minute. Two points (one from a free and one from play) for the opposition preceded our second score of the game; this coming from the boot of Kevin Maguire on the 10th minute after a fine catch at midfield by Stephen Connolly. The sides shared four points then with Shane Lawless and Alan Malynn both taking their points well. A converted two-pointer free by Connaughton put the narrowest of margins between the sides on the 22nd minute. But just as we got in touching distance, Garrycastle took it up a gear and rattled off 1-3 before the interval to lead by seven at the break.
Garrycastle dealt Caulry a sucker punch straight after the restart when they fired home their third goal of the game. Oisín Shortall drew this back three minutes later after a couple of missed scoring chances for our lads. Sean Murphy’s 34th minute point was cancelled out up the other end of the field. Our lads managed to close the gap somewhat then as Malynn sent over two points which yielded 0-3; he converted a two-pointer free before adding a point from play after the initial effort hit the post. Between these two scores, Luke Buckley was unlucky not to get a goal as a pass into him deflected out and wide. In similar fashion though, just as Caulry got close, Garrycastle pushed on as they added an unanswered 1-1; their goal came on the 44th and their point on the 47th. Between these two scores, Lawless and John Maguire both had shots for goals, but both were saved. The teams shared 0-6 then with Connolly and Malynn on target for Caulry. Malynn struck lucky on the 59th minute as he hit the back of the Garrycastle net but ultimately, the visitors had done enough to secure their win.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton (0-2, 1f, 1 2pt.), Glenn Carolan, Kevin Maguire (0-1), Olan Healy, Neil Clinton, Cormac Murphy, Sean Clinton, Stephen Connolly (0-1), Sean Murphy (0-1), Oisín Shortall (1-0), Harry Stuart Trainor, Shane Lawless (0-3, 1 2pt.), Tiarnán O’Donovan, John Maguire, Alan Malynn (1-6 2 2pt f)
Subs: Tom Cloonan for Cormac Murphy, Luke Buckley for Neil Clinton, Thomas Dunning for Oisín Shortall, Alan Daly for Tiarnán O’Donovan
Division 7 ACFL Round 4
Caulry 4-13
Bunbrosna 1-22
Our third team had to settle for a draw when they made the journey to Bunbrosna on Sunday morning last for their fourth game of the Division 7 ACFL.
Dean Burns opened the scoring account after Liam Malynn sent in a sideline ball which Burns dutifully popped over the bar. Bunbrosna’s no.15 done similar up their end of the field moments later. The Mullins brothers combined well on the 8th minute with Adam finishing off the move with a point from play. Further points from Burns and Malynn stretched the Caulry lead to three. By the 21st minute, the homeside had the gap back to just one after outscoring Caulry 0-3 to 0-1; Jack O’Meara on target for us. However, Caulry went in at the break with their tails up as we added 1-1 before the halftime whistle; Malynn rattled off a goal on the 22nd minute after O’Meara’s initial shot for a point came back off the upright and the same man also added a point on the 29th minute to cap off the first half scores.
The homeside accounted for the first three points of the second half and trailed by just one by the 33rd minute. Burns put four between the sides then when he rattled the back of the Bunbrosna net after a nice build up of play via Gary Flanagan, Paddy McMahon and Jay Walker. Liam Doyle further stretched our lead then with his point from play (Flanagan and Burns combining nicely under the kickout to set up this score). However, Bunbrosna undone all our hard work within a matter of minutes as they added 0-4, one of these a well taken two-pointer. Doyle added his second point of the game then on the 40th minute to put three between the sides. Within seconds of this score, the gap was back to six after Ciaran Gaynor drove forward from the defence and finished with a goal. A Bunbrosna point preceded Paddy McMahon’s score of the 43rd minute (Doyle helping to set this one up). Our lads conceded 1-1 then which meant it was level pegging heading into the final quarter of the game. The opposition showed great determination to come from behind and by the 51st minute, they were three points ahead thanks to a smattering of well taken points. Nicky Killane fisted over a point then to somewhat settle proceedings. Johnny Buckley added another before Ernie Buckley fired home a goal with seven minutes to spare to edge our lads in front once again. Malynn’s point then stretched the Caulry lead to three. However, the Bunbrosna men weren’t going to lie down just yet as they battled hard and managed to create two successful scoring opportunities to close the gap once again. Rory Mullins doubled the deficit to two with his effort on the 60th minute and it looked as though Caulry might sneak the win. However, it wasn’t to be as Bunbrosna worked the ball down the field and finished the half by converted a pair of frees to salvage themselves a share of the spoils deep into injury time.
Panel & Scorers: Max O’Sullivan, Ciaran Gaynor (1-0), Ciaran Allen, Ernie Buckley (1-0), Rory Mullins (0-1), Dara Shortall, Mark Fitzpatrick, Johnny Buckley (0-1), Adam Mullins (0-1), Liam Malynn (1-3), Jack O’Meara (0-1), Nicky Killane (0-1), Dean Burns (1-2), Patrick Kenny, Jay Walker, Will Buckley, Gary Flanagan , Paddy McMahon (0-1), Liam Doyle (0-2), Paddy McHugh

Girls’ U16 Division 2 League Final
Caulry 5-10
St. Joseph’s 5-5
Our U16 girls were crowned Division 2 League champions after a hard fought battle over St. Joseph’s in wet and miserable conditions on Saturday evening last.
St. Joseph’s, playing with the win at their backs in this opening half, registered early scores with ease as by the 7th minute they tallied 1-2. Eimear Allen opened our scoring account on the 12th minute with a point, although the goal was on. Instead, Caulry had to wait for another three minutes for our first green flag of the game; this came from the boot of Erin O’Faolain after Lilly Ledwith’s initial effort was saved. St. Joseph’s weren’t long about settling proceedings down then as they added 1-2 to put six points between the sides. A converted-free by Ledwith was cancelled out up the other end of the field then. By the time the referee signalled for halftime, our girls only trailed by one after O’Faolain’s duo of scores; firstly, she added a point after making a good stride forward and then she fired home a goal after combining nicely with Ledwith.
O’Faolain’s pojnt from play straight after the restart levelled the sides. Our girls then momentarily went in front after Roisin Mulvihill put her name on the scoresheet. However, the concession of a goal saw Caulry on the back foot once again by the 37th minute. Ledwith narrowed the gap with her 39th minute point. But another St. Joseph’s goal winded their lead to four. At this point in the game, the tide began to turn in our favour as Caulry owned most of the possession. Our girls were patient up front as Ledwith (with two) and O’Faolain’s points chipping away at the deficit. A couple of goal chances for both sides went astray before Sarah Dungan eventually found the net on the 52nd minute to put Caulry in front, only for the second time in the game. Now with a dangerous two-point lead, our girls had to dig deep. Good defending from Emma Allen O’Loughlin and Kate Corcoran forced St. Joseph’s to kick a wide. On the 56th minute, Ledwith sent in a dangerous ball on top of the opposition’s goalie, and after a fumble, it fell into the back of the net and gave Caulry a well-needed five point cushion. Eimear Allen was fouled up front in the next sequence of play, resulting in a penalty which Ledwith dutifully converted. St. Joseph’s managed one more attack deep into injury time which resulted in a goal but ultimately, our girls had done enough to secure the Division 2 League title. Well done to the girls and their coaches.

Division 1 ACFL Round 9
Caulry 0-5
St. Loman’s 2-17
Our seniors wrapped up their Division 1 ACFL campaign with a defeat to St. Loman’s in Lakepoint park on a wet and miserable Thursday evening last.
The sides shared a tally of 0-4 in the opening eleven minutes of play; the home side added two points from play before Harry Stuart Trainor opened Caulry’s scoring account after a patient build up. A free from Stephen Connolly then tied up the game. St. Loman’s edged in front again with another point from play. The homeside then stretched their lead to four with a well-taken goal at the end of this opening quarter. Our lads struggled up front with multiple attempts falling short or wide, and this was further hindered when Thomas Dunning was forced to the line after receiving a red card on the 23rd minute. Up the other end of the field, St. Loman’s took their scores with ease as they retreated to the dressing room with a 1-7 to 0-2 lead at the break.
A similar second half was in store as the opposition dominated throughout. Our lads only managed to convert three chances in this half; two of which from the boot of Adam Donoghue on the 33rd minute (from play) and 38th minute (a free). Meanwhile, St. Loman’s looked to use the half as shooting practice as they racked up a second half tally of 1-10. Connolly kicked our last score of the game in the 51st minute (this a fine long-range effort). This defeat means our lads finish with 8 points and secure their place in the Division 1 ACFL for next year. The lads now loom forward to a break before championship which starts at the end of July.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton, Glenn Carolan, Kevin Maguire, Tom Cloonan, Oisín Shortall, Sean Murphy, Sean Clinton, John Maguire, Stephen Connolly (0-2, 1f), Alan Daly, Harry Stuart Trainor (0-1), Shane Lawless, Tiarnán O’Donovan, Thomas Dunning, Adam Donoghue (0-2, 1f)

Division 4 ACFL Round 7
Caulry 0-16
Shandonagh 2-15
Our second team were defeated in Round 7 of this year's Division 4 ACFL when they made the journey to Shandonagh on blustery Bank Holiday Monday last.
Shandonagh got off to a good start and had yielded a tally of 0-4 by the 9th minute. Rory Mullins opened our scoring account then with a point from play, having combined nicely with Tom Cloonan. Shandonagh kicked another two points from play before our second score of the game; this from the boot of Aaron Murphy on the 21st minute. The homeside stretched their lead to seven thanks to a goal within second's of Murphy's score. Will Buckley's 23rd minute point was cancelled out up the other end of the field two minutes later. Our lads kicked consecutive scores then with Adam Donoghue and Thomas Dunning on target. However, Shandonagh saw out the half with another couple of scores as they retreated to the dressing rooms at halftime with a nine-point lead.
Sean Murphy was unlucky when his goal chance went wide within seconds of the restart. Instead, we had to settle for a two-pointer from Dunning. Dunning then registered his third score of the game on the 35th minute. The opposition hit a purple patch between the 36th and 41st minutes as they added 0-5 to our 0-1 (Dunning again on target for Caulry). A duo of two-pointers from Liam Malynn (a free) and Rory Mullins (a fine effort from play) brought Caulry right back into contention then with eight minutes remaining. However, at this stage in the game, shot accuracy wavered as the sides shared just two points in the remaining minutes to ensure Shandonagh escaped with the win.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Ciaran Gaynor, Johnny Buckley, Glenn Carolan, Alan Daly, Tom Cloonan, Rory Mullins (0-3, 1 2pt.), Sean Murphy, Harry Stuart Trainor, Aaron Murphy (0-1), Thomas Dunning (0-8, 2 2pt.), Will Buckley (0-1), Liam Malynn (0-2, 1 2pt. f), Jack O'Meara, Adam Donoghue (0-1)
Subs: Ciaran Allen for Will Buckley, Will Buckley for Johnny Buckley
Division 7 ACFL Round 6
Caulry 1-18
Ballynacargy 2-17
Our third team were defeated by Ballynacargy on Tuesday evening last in the latest round of this year’s Division 7 ACFL.
Caulry started the half well with Aaron Murphy kicking a point inside the opening minute. The homeside then kicked three points in the trot to take the lead. Our lads were unlucky not to find the back of the net on a couple of occasions in this half, the first of which came on the 5th minute after a good move initiated by Murphy. Rather, it was Liam Malynn who was next to add to the scoreline with a free. A Bal point preceded Murphy’s second point of the day (this time Paddy McHugh was instrumental in setting up the score). Ballynacargy extended their lead then with a goal on the 13th minute. They added four points before our next score of the game which came from the boot of Rory Mullins on the 24th minute. A late converted-free by Malynn saw our lads trail by six at the break.
Early points from Adam Donoghue and Malynn cut into the deficit after the restart. Between the 35th and 42nd minutes, the teams shared four points (Paul Hogan and Malynn adding to the scoreline after fine fielding from Mullins and Michael Fitzpatrick). The opposition briefly put themselves five points the good then. However, scores from Malynn (a fine two-pointer) and Fitzpatrick (after good outfield work by Ernie Buckley) put just two between the sides as final ten minutes of play approached. Ballynacargy added another point from play then, but by the 51st minute, it was all-square after scores from Hogan (our second two-pointer of the game) and Donoghue (after a good interception by Sylvester Coughlan in defence). A converted two-pointer free by Malynn put Caulry in front for only the second time since the very start of play. Bal drew one back before Donoghue rattled the back of the opposition’s net to put Caulry four points the good (Mullins and Hogan both doing their part to set up this goal). With just five minutes of normal time remaining, the opposition dug deep and kept their composure. They added a trio of points to reduce the gap back to just one. The all important score came just as the hour elapsed as a break down in our attack set up the Bal boys who raced down the field and finished to the back of the net. The referee let a couple more plays transpire before an injury between two Ballynacargy players brought a halt to proceedings. We wish them a speedy recovery.
Panel & Scorers: Max O’Sullivan, Ciaran Allen, James Carey, Dara Shortall, Sylvester Coughlan, Ernie Buckley, Paddy McHugh, Rory Mullins (0-1), Aaron Murphy (0-2), Philip Flanagan, Adam Donoghue (1-3), Jay Walker, Liam Malynn (0-8, 3f, 2 2pt.), Liam Doyle, Nicky Killane, Paul Hogan (0-3, 1 2pt.), Will Buckley, Michael Fitzpatrick (0-1), Cillian Nagle

Division 7 ACFL Round 8
Caulry 0-14
Delvin 3-17
Our third team’s Division 7 ACFL campaign came to an end on a wet and miserable Thursday evening last when they made the journey to Delvin for their last game of the competition.
Delvin came out all guns blazing in the opening quarter of the game, but thankfully from our point of view, their accuracy up front left a lot to be desired as they only managed to convert two chances, one from play and one from a free. Philip Flanagan’s 18th minute point got Caulry off the mark (Harry Stuart Trainor helping to set up this score). Liam Malynn momentarily put us in front then when he converted a two-pointer free. However, a quick scoring blitz by Delvin before the halftime whistle saw them lead by five at the break.
Max O’Sullivan brought off a save straight after the restart as the homeside had to settle for a point. Adam Mullins put his name on the scoresheet then when he contested the following kickout before finishing well. Another Delvin point preceded a second two-pointer by Malynn (this one from play). Delvin’s goal on the 35th minute gave Caulry an uphill battle as the deficit between the sides went from four to seven. Caulry were unlucky up front as Dean Burns’ goal chance was stopped before a couple more chances fell wide or short. Malynn kicked consecutive points on the 41st and 42nd minutes (a free before firing over another two-pointer). Delvin’s second and third goals came either side of Malynn’s fourth two-pointer. Ultimately, the opposition proved too strong and ran out comfortable winners on the evening.
Panel & Scorers: Max O’Sullivan, Sylvester Coughlan, Ciaran Gaynor, Dara Shortall, Ian Malynn, Ernie Buckley, Paddy McHugh, Rory Mullins, Harry Stuart Trainor, Adam Mullins (0-1), Dean Burns, James Carey, Philip Flanagan (0-1), Michael Fitzpatrick, Liam Malynn (0-12, 4 2 pt., 6f), Patrick Kenny, Jay Walker, Willie Buckley
This game brings an end to our Division 7 ACFL campaign.
It was a campaign of mixed results where our lads finished in the middle of the table with 7 points. Throughout the contest, our lads came up against a myriad of opposition teams and gave it their all in every game. Almost 40 lads lined out for the side over the course of the league, a mixture of young and more experienced players. It was a great opportunity for lads who haven’t put on the red and white jersey in a couple of years to get back on the playing boots. Win, lose or draw, the lads enjoyed (almost) every second of the games and can now look forward to a well-earned break before the Junior B Championship. A massive thank you to coaches Will Buckley & Robbie Ryan and kit man to the stars Colin Murphy for their support with the team.

Boys’ Minor Championship Round 1
Caulry 2-12
Coralstown/Kinnegad 1-10
Caulry and Coralstown/Kinnegad served up an entertaining hour of football when the sides met in the park for the opening round of this year’s MFC on Thursday evening last.
Early points from Lee Corcoran (a free) and Brian Doyle put Caulry on the front foot from the offset. Coralstown/Kinnegad opened their scoring on the 6th minute with a converted-free but by the start of the second quarter Caulry lead by seven points thanks to scores from Aaron Buckley, Corcoran, Dean Martin, Doyle and Darragh Martin. Our lads further extended their lead then when Darragh Martin fired home a goal (this well-work score was initiated by Martin and Doyle outfield before Corcoran showed great vision to find Martin who finished to the back of the net). Coralstown/Kinnegad kicked two consecutive scores before the break to leave the scoreboard reading 1-8 to 0-3.
On the resumption, the opposition, now with the breeze at their backs, launched a number of attacks, only one of which (a converted free) was successful. Fionn O’Donovan brought off a double save then on the 35th minute and this enabled Caulry to build an attack. Eventually, this move was finished in form of a two-pointer free by John Paul. The sides shared four points then with the opposition coming out slightly better as one of these was a two-pointer. Coralstown/Kinnegad showed great determination and grit as they added 1-3 to leave a gap of just two points between the sides with six minutes to go. Credit must be given to the Caulry defence at this stage with Daniel Lynam, Michael McSharry and John Paul all putting their bodies on the line to protect our goal. Simon O’Grady managed to sneak a goal on the 59th minute after a quickly taken free to give Caulry some breathing space. And, this transpired to be the last score of the game as a number of Coralstown/Kinnegad points went wide ensuring Caulry escaped with the win.
Team & Scorers: Fionn O’Donovan, Gavin Quilty, John Paul (0-2, 2pt. f), Michael McSharry, John McDermott, Rory Hatton, Daniel Lynam, Brain Doyle (0-3), Dean Martin (0-1), Luke Berry, Lee Corcoran (0-4, 2f), Tristan Dolan, Aaron Buckley (0-1), Cian Malone, Darragh Martin (1-1)

Boys’ U14 Championship Round 1
Caulry 6-11
Miltownpass 3-3
The Caulry lads travelled to Milltownpass on Wednesday, 2nd of June last to take on the home team in the first round of the Championship.
Goalkeeper and captain for the game, Devon Martin was commanding around the goalmouth, catching numerous high balls and creating a platform for attacks, not to mention his great penalty save in the first half.
The fullback line of Dara Quilty, Charlie Buckley and Rory Hasson provided a rock solid defence in front of goal with tight marking and attacking the ball every time which was the foundation for every attack. Half backs Shea Ledwith and Joe Walsh had a busy evening supporting the fullback line and also making runs deep into the opposition half setting up numerous scoring opportunities.
The midfield duo of Robert O’Dowd and Senan Hatton worked tirelessly covering every blade of grass, winning numerous kick outs and assisting the backs and forwards throughout the game.
Half forwards Sean Maguire, Zach Buckley and Ruairi Corcoran were a constant thorn in the opposition side, with numerous turnover wins and attacking sprints resulting in great scores.
Full forwards Cillian Moran, Joe Carroll and Gavin Hennessy linked excellently with the Caulry attacks and provided the finishing touches to great moves with fantastic scores.
Caulry ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 6-11 to 3-03.
Team & Scorers: Devon Martin, Dara Quilty, Charlie Buckley, Rory Hasson, Shea Ledwith, Joe Walsh, Robert O’Dowd, Senan Hatton, Sean Maguire (2-2), Zach Buckley, Ruairi Corcoran (0-1), Joe Carroll (1-2), Cillian Moran (3-5), Gavin Hennessy (0-1)
U20 Championship Round 1
Caulry 5-18
St. Loman’s 2-17
Our U20s has a comprehensive win over St. Loman’s in the park on Tuesday evening last when the sides met for Round 1 of this year’s championship.
St. Loman’s were first out of the tracks with a point inside 20 seconds. However, within minutes, Oisín Shortall gave Caulry the lead when he fired home a goal (Dean Burns setting up this move from the kickout). By the end of the opening ten minutes, the scoreboard read 1-4 to 0-5 as Brian Doyle, Lee Corcoran and Tiarnán O’Donovan all added points for us. Our lads hit a purple patch then with Doyle, Tadgh Baker and Corcoran all adding points before Baker registered our second goal of the game at the end of this first quarter. St. Loman’s managed to bring the gap back to three after a series of points, including two two-pointer frees. However, once again our strong lead was reinstated after a burst forward from John Paul who finished with a goal. Before the interval, the sides shared 2-2 (O’Donovan contributed a point while Burns got the goal) to leave the scoreboard reading 4-9 to 1-12 at the break.
The sides shared four points in the early stages of the second half with Baker kicking a fine two-pointer and Doyle adding another point to Caulry’s scoreline. Doyle and David Gaynor kicked points either side of a well-finished goal by Cian Malone. The opposition raised their second green flag at the end of this third quarter to bring the gap back to nine. However, this deficit proved to be too great for the opposition to overturn as a series of points from both sides brought an end to the game: Luke Nolan, Corcoran, Shortall and O’Donovan were the Caulry men on target to ensure we ran out comfortable winners on the evening.
Team & Scorers: Fionn O’Donovan, Dara Shortall, David Gaynor (0-1), Tristan Dolan, Dean Burns (1-0), Oisín Shortall (1-1), Brendan McCormack, Tadgh Baker (1-3, 1 2pt.), Tiarnán O’Donovan (0-3), Brian Doyle (0-4), Lee Corcoran (0-5, 2f), Luke Nolan (0-1), Cian Malone (1-0), Michael McSharry, John Paul (1-0)
Girls’ U16 Championship Round 1

Athlone 6-5
Our U16 girls hosted Athlone in the park for their opening game of the league on a sunny Tuesday evening last. Caulry dominated in parts of the first half and built up a strong league. However, Athlone weren’t long about closing the gap and after a series of goals, our girls only lead by two at the break on a scoreline of 5-3 to 5-1. It was all to play for in the second half as the teams battled hard, both eager to start their championship campaigns with a win. Eventually, our girls managed to come out on top as the game finished 8-7 to 6-5 to Caulry. Well done girls.

Senior Championship Round 1 Fixture
All roads lead to Ballynacargy on Friday evening next for the opening round of this year’s senior football championship. Our lads will battle it out against Killucan on the evening and kick-off for the game at 7:15pm. The sides last clashed in the SFC back in 2023, where after a tight battle, our lads came out on top on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-8. Both sides will undoubtedly be hungry for a win to start their respective campaigns and we wish the Caulry lads and their management team the very best of luck. All supporters are asked to get behind the lads on the evening.
Boys’ U16 Championship Round 2
Caulry 2-11
Tubberclair 2-13
Our U16 boys came up short against Tubberclair in the park on Monday evening last for their second round of the championship.
Darragh Martin opened the scoring account with a point from play. However, by the end of the opening five minutes, Tubberclair led by six, having tagged on 2-1 in quick succession. Another point from Martin preceded two Tubberclair points. Brían Moran put his name on the scoresheet on the 13th minute after combining nicely with Caelan O’Neill. Simeon O’Flaherty and Luke Berry added points in the later stages of the half as the sides retreated to the sideline with the opposition in front 2-8 to 0-5.
A flurry of scores in the resuming minutes of the second half closed the gap to three by the 37th minute: Martin restarted the scoring with a well taken point before Tyler Mason registered 1-2 in quick succession to tighten the margins. Our momentum was momentarily stalled then as we were penalised for the 3 up rule and this gave the Tubberclair free taker a chance to extend their lead back to four. Gavin McSharry cancelled out this score up our end of the field within seconds. O’Neill added another on the 46th minute before Martin kicked the levelling point as the final ten minutes approached. Our boys then took the lead for the first time since the start of the game when Martin fired home a goal (Cathal Casey and Kevin O’Brien playing important roles in setting up this score). To credit Tubberclair, they fought back and a duo of points later had it level pegging with just four minutes remaining. Pressure was on as both sides were eager to get a result and this pressure was evident as simple fouls were committed, giving the visitors a chance to go ahead once again. Two converted Tubberclair frees brought an end to the game as our boys came up just short after an entertaining game.
Team & Scorers: Stephen O’Reilly, Conor Padden, Tom Madden, Cathal Casey, Brían Moran (0-1), Luke Berry (0-1), Kevin O’Brien, Gavin McSharry (0-1), Ewan Kelly, Simeon O'Flaherty (0-1), Rhys Mason (1-2), Caelan O’Neill (0-1), Ryan Doyle, Darragh Martin (1-4), Gavin Doyle
Boys’ Minor Championship Round 2
Caulry 1-16
Inny Shamrocks 1-12
Our minor boys picked up their second win of this year’s championship campaign when they took on Inny Shamrocks in Bunbrosna on Wednesday evening last.
The sides exchanged early points with Lee Corcoran and Aaron Buckley on target for Caulry. A converted free by Corcoran momentarily put Caulry in front but within seconds the ball was in the back of our net after a good advance forward by the Inny Shamrocks boys. Brian Doyle was next to add to the scoreline when he caught the resulting kickout and ran the length of the field before finishing with a point. Buckley added his second on the 22nd minute to make it a draw game. Before the interval, the opposition managed to register one more score, a point from play to lead by the narrowest of margins when the sides retreated to the dressing rooms for halftime.
Within three minutes of the resumption of play, our boys had overturned the scoreline two points in our favour: Corcoran restarted the scoring with a converted free and point from play before Hugo McGowan’s effort put us two points the good. Inny Shamrocks kicked a duo of points then to equalise once again. Darragh Martin showed well up front, one such example saw him pressurise the opposition’s defence resulting in a foul which Doyle dutifully converted. The sides were evenly matched throughout this second half as they shared 0-5 before the end of this third quarter bringing the sides back level for a fourth time in the game. Corcoran added two consecutive points to Inny Shamrocks’ one to edge Caulry in front once again. Doyle then struck lucky when he fired home a goal on the 52nd minute, stretching our advantage to four. To credit the Inny Shamrocks boys, they never gave up as they piled pressure on the Caulry defence. John Paul managed to get a vital block on the shot on the 56th minute which fell out for a ‘45’ which the opposition failed to convert. In the later stages of the half, the game went on a tit for tat basis as the teams shared 0-6: Corcoran, Doyle and Martin were the scorers who rounded off our scoring and ensured they made it two wins from two.
Team & Scorers: Fionn O’Donovan, Fionn Murphy, John Paul, Michael McSharry, John McDermott, Rory Hatton, Daniel Lynam, Brian Doyle (0-3, 1f), Dean Martin (0-1), Luke Berry, Lee Corcoran (0-8, 2f), Cian Malone, Aaron Buckley (0-2), Ciaran Dunning, Darragh Martin

Girls’ U14 Championship Round 2
Caulry 6-16
Delvin/St. Paul’s 4-8
Our U14 girls ran out comfortable winners over Delvin/St. Paul’s in the park on Thursday evening last for their Round 2 of the championship.
Our girls were helped into an early lead with scores from Kelly Lynam (a point) and Kate Corcoran (a point and a goal). Delvin/St. Paul’s got off the mark then with a well taken point on the 4th minute. The Caulry girls were particularly dominant in this opening half as they added 3-3 before the opposition managed to score again: our goals came from Roisin Mulvihill (two) and Lexi Grady while Cara Winters (two) and Lynam were the point scorers. The visitor to the park added two consecutive points then before further scores from Corcoran, Grady, and Grave Hallissy saw our girls retreat to the sideline with a healthy lead at the break.
Scores from Winters, Hallissy and Lynam enabled the Caulry girls to push on in the second half. Delvin/St. Paul’s played their best football in the final quarter of the game as they added 4-5 to Caulry’s two points (both from Annie Doyle). Despite the late resurgence, our girls had done enough to finish with the win.
Panel & Scorers: Tara Ledwith, Abigail Kelly, Sarah Dolan, Fia Whyte, Ellen Shortall, Katie Claffey, Kelly Lynam (0-4), Kate Corcoran (1-3), Cara Winters (0-3), Roisin Mulvihill (2-0), Lexi Grady (1-1), Gemma Dungan, Grace Hallissy (2-3), Grace Berry, Caoimhe Browne, Cara Devlin, Annie Doyle (0-2)

U20 Championship Round 2
Caulry 4-10
St. Mary’s 1-9
Our U20s made it two wins from win when they made the journey to Rochfortbridge on Tuesday evening last.
Cody Parker got Caulry off the mark when he split the posts inside the first minute. St. Mary’s opened their scoring account then in style with a two pointer. Dean Burns got under the following kickout and set Lee Corcoran up for the game’s second two pointer on the 7th minute. In similar style, Brendan McCormack won the next kickout and this move was finished to the back of the net by Oisín Shortall to give Caulry a four-pointer advantage. The sides exchanged scores then with Corcoran’s and Aaron Murphy’s (a free) being cancelled out up the other end of the field. Daniel Lynam turned over a St. Mary’s attack on the 21st minute which resulted in a Caulry goal: Corcoran doing well to find the back of the net after his initial effort was saved. The homeside got a goal of their own before the break to leave them trailing by two.
Our lads extended their lead to three by the 40th minute as they outscored the opposition 0-3 to 0-2: Brian Doyle, Murphy and Tiarnán O’Donovan were the men on target for Caulry. Doyle, who impressed from the offset of his introduction in the second half, done well on the 41st minute when he ran through the St. Mary’s defence and fired home a goal from a distance outfield (Tadgh Baker’s interception at midfield was instrumental in setting up this score). McCormack got a vital touch to a ball in by Shortall on the 49th minute which resulted in our fourth green flag of the game. Back to back points by Burns and O’Donovan further stretched our lead. St. Mary’s rounded off the scoring then with two points of their own but ultimately, our lads had done enough to seal the win.
Team & Scorers: John Paul, Rory Hatton, David Gaynor, Dara Shortall, Dean Martin, Oisín Shortall (1-0), Cody Parker (0-1), Tiarnán O’Donovan (0-2), Tadgh Baker, Dean Burns (0-1), Lee Corcoran (1-3, 1 2pt.), Brendan McCormack (1-0), Max O’Sullivan, Aaron Murphy (0-2, 1f), Daniel Lynam

Our seniors came up short against Killucan when the sides battled it out in Ballynacargy for Round 1 of this year’s senior championship on Friday evening last.
It was Killucan who opened the scoring account on the 3rd minute after both sides missed their chances. Our lads got off the mark then when Shane Lawless played the ball into Harry Stuart Trainor who palmed it into the back of the Killucan net. Within a matter of minutes, Caulry were in front by five after a trio of points from Lawless, Alan Malynn and Sean Clinton. However, our lads failed to push on from this as the yellow bellies chipped away at the deficit point by point. By the 22nd minute, the sides were level. Malynn put an end to our scoring famine on the 29th minute when he converted a two-pointer free. Killucan done similar up their end of the field just before the half time whistle to leave it all square at the break.
The yellow bellies were first to launch an attack in the second half but this effort fell short. Colin Murphy had a chance then to score, but this rattled back off the upright. The opposition kicked two consecutive points then, one from play and one from a free. Malynn’s 40th minute free reduced the gap back to one before Murphy put Caulry in the lead after combing nicely with Lawless and raising our second green flag of the game. The sides traded points (Killucan’s came from a free while Clinton was the man on target for us). Killucan brought the gap back to one then when they popped over a two-pointer free after our lads breached the three up rule. This score was cancelled out by points up our end of the field by Murphy and Connolly. Tadgh Baker broke through on goal on the 45th minute, but this was knocked out for a ‘45’ which ultimately fell wide. Killucan built from the resulting kickout and brought the deficit back to one on the 56th minute. By the 58th, it was level pegging once again as the yellow bellies tapped over another point from play. Our lads managed to work the ball up the field via Stephen Connolly who was blocked down as Killucan caught Caulry on the counter attack before eventually finishing with a fine score outside the arc to edge themselves in front. A couple more plays evolved, all of which unsuccessful, as a delighted Killucan welcomed the full time whistle. Our lads’ focus now shifts to their Round 2 clash which takes place on Saturday, 9th of August. See full fixture below.

Championship Fixtures
We have all our adult teams out in championship action this week. Our second team begin their championship campaign with an away game to Garrycastle on Friday at 7:15pm (their first round clash against Mullingar Shamrocks was postponed last week). Our senior men and intermediate ladies are both out in action on Saturday at 7pm. Our lads make the journey to Moate where they will battle it out against St. Malachy’s for Round 2 of the SFC. Meanwhile, our ladies will host Moate for their second championship clash in the park. All supporters are asked to get behind the teams. Good luck to all involved.
Boys’ U16 Championship Round 3
Caulry 5-17
Kilbeggan Shamrocks 5-14
Caulry and Kilbeggan Shamrocks U16 teams served up a high scoring encounter when the sides met in the park for Round 3 of the championship on Monday evening last.
Our boys were denied two goal chances (from Rhys Mason and Luke Berry) either side of Kilbeggan kicking the opening point of the game on the 2nd minute. Senan Hatton brought off a fantastic save then and was unlucky as Kilbeggan Shamrocks managed to pocket the goal at the second time of asking to give them a four point lead. Darragh Martin opened our scoring account with a point on the 6th minute (Simeon O’Flaharty turning over the ball out field to set up this score). Hatton kept Caulry in the game by bringing off three more saves as a point from Ryan Doyle brought the deficit back to two. Kilbeggan Shamrocks then launched a quick scoring blitz which yielded 1-4 between the 11th and 14th minutes. Again Hatton proved his worth in the goals as a double save was worked down the field and finished over the bar by Martin. Doyle registered our first goal of the game on the 17th minute before a duo of points from Berry brought the gap back to three. Before the interval, Shamrocks added 0-4 to Caulry’s 1-0 (Martin finding the net) to leave us trailing by four at the break.
The second half followed in much the same vein as the first with a flurry of scores coming from all angles. After a jam-packed third quarter, Caulry lead 5-9 to 4-11 (Martin, Berry, Kevin O’Brien and Doyle added points while Berry, Martin and Mason raised the green flags). Berry stretched our lead to three when he converted a two pointer free on the 47th minute. By the 58th minute, our boys got some breathing space as five points separated the sides thanks to a smattering of Caulry points. However, true to their form, Kilbeggan Shamrocks tightened the reins with their fifth and final goal of the game just as full time elapsed. Doyle converted a free then to put three points between the sides after Shamrocks breached the 3 up rule. Hatton brought off a tremendous save deep in to injury time to ensure our boys got away with the win.
Panel: Tom Madden, Sam Hatton, Marcus Grant, Senan Hatton, Luke Berry, Kyle Mason, Kevin O’Brien, Rhys Mason, Caelan O’Neill, Simeon O’Flaherty, Evan Allen, Ryan Doyle, Darragh Martin, Gavin O’Dowd
Boys’ U14 Championship Round 3
Caulry 8-13
St. Loman’s 2-5
Our U14 boys had a good win over St. Loman’s when they hosted the side in the park for their latest championship fixture on Wednesday evening last.
Early scores from Cian Buckley (two goals), Kyle Mason and Senan Hatton (a point apiece) helped Caulry into an early lead. St. Loman’s kicked two consecutive points then, however, further scores from Aengus Baker, Cillian Moran and Mason further stretched the Caulry lead. Devon Martin, who had a fine display throughout the game, brought off his first brace of saves on the 23rd minute and was unlucky to be caught at the third time of asking as the opposition managed to sneak a goal. Before the break, Buckley scored his hat trick as Moran also raised a green flag to keep our advantage in tact.
Martin was put under pressure in the early stages of this half, but he wasn’t to be bested as the visitors had to settle for a point. Joe Carroll restarted the Caulry scoring with a point on the 37th minute. Further scores from Buckley, Hatton, Carroll and Moran preceded St. Loman’s next score if the game which came on the 47th minute. The Mullingar boys followed this up with another point then. Late scores form Rory Hassan, Daniel Casey and Moran brought an end to the game.
Panel: Devon Martin, Ruairi Casey, Charlie Buckley, Rory Hassan, Daniel Casey, Joe Walsh, Aengus Baker, Kyle Mason, Senan Hatton, Gavin Hennessy, Zach Buckley, Cian Buckley, Joe Carroll, Cillian Moran, Abdullah Awan
Boys’ Minor Championship Round 3
Hard luck to our minor boys who suffered their first defeat of this year’s championship when they made the journey to Killucan on Thursday evening last.
Ladies IFC Round 1
Caulry 1-10
Goldsmiths 4-14
Our ladies hosted Goldsmiths in the park on Thursday evening last for their opening game of the intermediate championship.
Our girls got off to the best of starts when Aine Gaynor was pulled down up front and Goldsmiths conceded a penalty which Molly Connaughton dutifully converted. Goldsmiths opened their scoring account with a free on the 4th minute, and by the 7th, the amalgamated side lead by two after scoring 1-1 in quick succession. Before the end of this first quarter, the sides shared four points with Kate Stuart Trainor and Ashling Gaynor on target for Caulry. The second quarter was very stop-start as all but one score during this passage came from frees: Aine Gaynor converted four for Caulry as the visitors accounted for three scores (two frees and one from play) to leave our ladies trailing 1-7 to 1-6 at the interval.
The Gaynor girls combined after the resumption of play as Aine finished with a point to tie things up. This was short lived as true to form Goldsmiths immediately reinstated their lead with a point from play. Our girls were unlucky then as a few chances went astray. It was the 47th minute before we scored again (Gaynor with another free) but by this stage Goldsmiths lead by four. In the closing minutes of the half, our girls tried to get scores on the board which was almost impossible as the opposition were back in numbers. Ultimately, Goldsmiths ran out winners with four points to spare.
Team & Scorers: Rachel Maguire, Susan Duignan, Amy Murphy, Anna Malone, Ella Corcoran, Ruth Martin, Aoife Collins, Aishling Gaynor (0-1), Megan Clinton, Karrissa Burns, Lauren Claffey, Kate Stuart Trainor (0-1), Jasmine Maloney, Molly Connaughton (1-0), Aine Gaynor (0-8, 7f)

U20 Championship Round 3
Caulry 3-11
Mullingar Shamrocks 1-11
Our U20s kept up their winning streak when they hosted Mullingar Shamrocks in the park on Tuesday evening last.
Tadgh Baker opened the scoring within 12 seconds of the throw in when he booted over a point. Mullingar Shamrocks drew level then almost instantly. Both sides will rue their missed chances that followed as the next score of the game came from the boot of Brian Doyle after a patch of nice combined teamwork from Oisín Shortall and Dean Burns. The Shamrocks lads had a very well worked goal on the 10th minute after working the ball the whole way from our attack and this put them momentarily in the lead. By the 24th minute, the sides were back in par once again after points from Doyle, Cormac Murphy and Lee Corcoran. John Paul and David Gaynor brought off a series of important saves then as Mullingar Shamrocks had to settle for a point (their no. 14 turning and shooting in style). Doyle and Tiarnán O’Donovan combined well on the 27th minute as O’Donovan finished with a goal to put Caulry in front by two. Shamrocks initially brought it back to a draw game (again their no. 14 adding two fine points), however, a fisted point from Baker ensured our lads retreated to the sideline at halftime with one point to spare.
In the resuming four minutes of the second half, the sides shared as many points (Corcoran and Baker on target for Caulry). There was a duo of missed goals then: Simon O’Grady fired his shot just wide before the opposition done similar up their end of the field. The visitors kicked consecutive points on the 38th and 39th minutes to overturn the scoreline one point in their favour. Aaron Murphy converted a free then but by the end of this third quarter, the Shamrocks boys lead 1-11 to 1-9. Our lads dug deep for the final quarter as points from Shortall and Burns made it level pegging. Caulry took the lead then on the 51st minute with a goal when O’Grady got the final touch to a ball in by O’Donovan (Baker initially setting up this score from the kickout). Baker then put the final nail in the coffin when he raised our third green flag of the evening on the 53rd minute: he won the kickout before racing up the field and send a bullet-like goal into the top left hand corner of the net. This proved to be the last score of the game as the scoreboard read 3-11 to 1-11 at the full time whistle.
Team & Scorers: John Paul, Dara Shortall, Cormac Murphy (0-1), David Gaynor, Dean Martin, Oisín Shortall (0-1), Daniel Lynam, Tadgh Baker (1-3), Tiarnán O’Donovan (1-0), Brain Doyle (0-2), Lee Corcoran (0-2), Dean Burns (0-1), Simon O’Grady (1-0), Aaron Murphy (0-1, 1f), Kyle Rainey
Subs: Fionn O’Donovan for John Paul
J2FC Round 1
Caulry 3-10
Garrycastle 2-13
There was nothing separating Caulry and Garrycastle when the sides met in Round 1 of the J2FC last Friday evening.
The homeside opened the scoring account with a pointed free on the 1st minute. Alan Lynam then booted home the first of the evening’s goals after a good pass in by Mark Fitzpatrick to get Caulry off the mark. Adam Donoghue added a point for Caulry before Garrycastle drew level when their no. 5 raised a green flag after a making a good run forward. The next score of the game came in the 14th minute, this a converted 45 by Liam Malynn. Fitzpatrick put four points between the sides with his goal after a good pass in by Adam Mullins, but by the 23rd minute, it was back to the narrowest of margins after a trio of Garrycastle points. Our lads pulled away a bit towards the end of the first half with a smattering of points from Malynn (two two pointers) and Darren Hynds, the strong wind being an assist to these scores.
By the end of the 35th minute of the second half, Caulry led by nine points after a fabulous two pointer by Lynam and well struck goal by Alan Daly (Dean Burns winning the kickout to help set up this attack). Despite this promising start to the half, our lads failed to push on as the opposition started chipping away at the deficit. But the 50th minute, our lead was cut back to three. At this stage in the game, our lads were struggling to find scores with Burns eventually putting an end to the famine with his effort in the 52nd minute. However, Garrycastle’s tails were up as they tapped over a hattrick of points to make it level pegging. A few late attacks materialise for both sides, none of which were successful as the teams settled for a share of the spoils.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Luke Hamilton, Johnny Buckley, Adam Mullins, Rory Mullins, Darren Hynds (0-1), Dean Burns (0-1), Alan Lynam (1-2, 1 2pt.), David Gaynor, Alan Daly (1-0), Liam Malynn (0-5, 1 45, 2 2pt.), Will Buckley, Aaron Murphy, Mark Fitzpatrick (1-0), Adam Donoghue (0-1)
Subs: Ciaran Allen for Darren Hynds, Liam Doyle for Aaron Murphy
SFC Round 2
Caulry 2-13
St. Malachy’s 2-12
Our seniors picked up their first brace of points in Round 2 of this year’s SFC after a close contest in Moate on Saturday evening last when they clashed with St. Malachy’s.
Our lads will rue their missed chances throughout the game, particularly in the opening minutes as a trio of opportunities went wide before Conor McCormack eventually opened the scoring account on the 3rd minute. Tadgh Baker added our second point of the game before St. Malachy’s ever launched an attack. The opposition were just as wasteful upfront as two St. Malachy’s wides preceded our next score of the game: this a two-pointer from the boot of McCormack.
St. Malachy’s looked dangerous up front by times as their first goal chance of the game went wide. Alan Malynn added a point then to put Caulry five ahead. The black and red side got off the mark on the 14th minute when a dropping ball in on top of our goal ended up inside the net to reduce the gap. Between the 18th and 20th minutes, the sides shared four points (Malynn and Thomas Dunning on target for Caulry). However, the opposition finished the half strong, adding a goal on the 27th minute before converting a two pointer free just before the interval to lead 2-4 to 0-7 at the halftime whistle.
Our lads got off to what should have been a great start to the second half when the St. Malachy’s full back was forced to their sideline after giving away a penalty and consequently receiving a black card. However, it wasn’t to be as the penalty trickled out wide. This seemed to be the turning point in the game though as our lads dug deep and took advantage of the extra man. Baker initially added a point before Sean Murphy followed suit. Murphy then gave Caulry the lead when he sidestepped a St. Malachy’s defender and rattled the back of the net. St. Malachy’s momentarily drew one back, but by the 41st minute, Caulry lead by four after Lawless pocketed a goal when he combined nicely with Tiarnán O’Donovan. However, St. Malachy’s weren’t going to lie down and take a defeat easily as they chipped away at the deficit by adding the next three scores of the game, including a two pointer free, to leave the sides on par with nine minutes remaining. Baker nosed Caulry in front on the 54th minute after a very patient build up of play. Substitute Damien Dolan fired over another then to double our lead. But true to form, St. Malachy’s fought back and went ahead after booting over another trio of consecutive points (one free and two from play). This put them ahead by one as sixty minutes elapsed. The Caulry lads showed great grit and determination as they refused to lie down when it mattered most. Stephen Connolly, who had just been introduced six minutes earlier, found space and booted over the equalising point. With tenacity and perseverance, Caulry fought for the resulting kickout, winning it and setting McCormack up for a scoring opportunity which he dutifully converted to edge our lads ahead deep into injury time. This transpired to be the last score of the game as the referee signalled full time to bring an end to the action packed game.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton, Glenn Carolan, Kevin Maguire, Oisín Shortall, Sean Clinton, Eoghan Grennan, Sean Murphy (1-1), John Maguire, Tadgh Baker (0-3), Shane Lawless (1-0), Conor McCormack (0-4, 1 2pt.), Tiarnán O’Donovan, Thomas Dunning (0-1), Colin Murphy, Alan Malynn (0-2)
Subs: Damien Dolan (0-1) for John Maguire, Harry Stuart Trainor for Thomas Dunning, Stephen Connolly (0-1) for Colin Murphy
Ladies IFC Round 2
Caulry 4-17
Moate 3-11
Our intermediate ladies hosted Moate in the park at the same time as our men’s game on Saturday evening last for their Round 2 of the IFC. At the end of the first thirty minutes, our ladies lead by double scores (2-10 to 1-5) as the breeze helped to build up a strong lead. The girls didn’t let conditions bother them too much in the second half however, as they almost matched their first half scoring tally. The ladies worked together well as a team, kicking scores from all angles and taking their goals well enabling them to run out worthy winners with nine points to spare. Well done girls!

Girls’ U16 Championship Round 3
Caulry 1-16
Garrycastle 2-12
Our girls fought back from a seven-point deficit to claim a narrow win when they hosted Garrycastle in the park on Tuesday evening last.
The sides were evenly matched in the first quarter of the game as they shared two points apiece (Kelly Lynam added both Caulry scores). Garrycastle injected a bit of pace into the second quarter of the game as they kicked a brace of points from play. Lily Ledwith was our only other scorer in this period, adding two points to leave Caulry trailing by three at the break.
The visitors made a good start to the second half and by the 38th minute, they lead by seven. Points from Ledwith and Erin O’Faolain were cancelled out by similar scores for the opposition. Our girls took charge of the final quarter of the game: Roisin Mulvihill, Ledwith, Lynam and O’Faolain all added points to the scoring tally to level the game on the 51st minute. However, the Garrycastle girls weren’t going down without a fight as within three minutes, they added 1-1 to take the lead once again. Kate Corcoran done well out the field as she won the ball in defence before it was eventually finished into the back of the net by Ledwith. Mulvihill then sent over the equaliser after a good catch by Lynam under the Garrycastle kickout. Our girls had some chances to go ahead then, none of these successful. Eventually, things came right when Lynam booted over a super long range point to win the game by the narrowest of margins.
Team: Grace Donohoe, Sophie Browne, Emma Allen O’Loughlin, Molly Keating, Sophie Padden, Clodagh Shortall, Amelia Nally, Erin O’Faolain, Grace David, Cadhla Corcoran, Kelly Lynam, Tara Collins, Eimear Allen, Lily Ledwith, Anna Walsh, Kate Corcoran, Roisin Mulvihill, Aoife McDermott, Ellen Shortall, Emily White
Boys’ Minor Championship Round 4
Caulry 3-6
St. Mary’s 1-11
Our minor boys advanced to the knock out stages of this year’s championship after a last minute goal sealed the win when Caulry hosted St. Mary’s in the park on Thursday evening last.
St. Mary’s had two points of the scoreboard (both from frees) by the time our boys got off the mark after a point form play by Brain Doyle on the 4th minute. Fionn O’Donovan and John McDermott both brought off fine saves on the 8th minute but it was three times a charm as the visitors found the back of the net with their third strike of the ball. St. Mary’s added a trio of points then before Lee Corcoran found the back on the net on the 27th minute, much to the surprise of spectators as his dropping free somehow fell into the goal mouth. A duo of points from the same player (a free and from play) had Caulry trailing by two at the break.
Corcoran restarted the scoring in the second half with a converted-free before the opposition added two points of their own. Corcoran was on fire as he lined up a booted over a fantastic two-pointer the on the 36th minute. However, St. Mary’s reinstated their three point lead after firing over their own two-pointer from a free as the final quarter approached. Corcoran momentarily made it level pegging then when he fired home his second goal of the game. But, the St. Mary’s boys weren’t long about working the ball down the field for a point. The opposition had multiple chances to go ahead then, all of which were unsuccessful before they eventually stretched their lead to two on the 61st minute. At this point, the Caulry lads would have been forgiven if they hung up their boots as St. Mary’s played down the clock, passing from one side of the field to the next. However, they weren’t going to do that as some ferocious defending regained the possession as they raced down the field desperate for a score (only a two-pointer or draw would do). With pressure mounting, a foul was committed inside the 30m arc. Deep into injury time, Simon O’Grady sent the free in on top of the goal, and true to form, Corcoran got the magic touch to the ball, sending it into the back of the St. Mary’s net and sending his team into the quarter final. Well done boys!
Team & Scorers: Fionn O’Donovan, Fionn Murphy, Dean Martin, Tristan Dolan, John McDermott, Rory Hatton, Daniel Lynam, Brian Doyle (0-1), Hugo McGowan, Luke Berry, Lee Corcoran (3-5, 1 2 pt., 1f), Cian Malone, Simon O’Grady, Luke Nolan, Darragh Martin

Our intermediate ladies make the journey to Athlone on Thursday evening next for their fourth and final group stage game of the championship. The sides met in the league earlier in the year and after a tough battle, our girls came out on top on a scoreline of 4-6 to 1-13. The ladies will be hoping to replicate the result when they take to the field at 7pm in this must win game.
Our minor boys are also out in championship action on Thursday. They make the long journey to Killucan in search of a semi-final spot.
We wish both sides the very best of luck in their games and encourage our supporters to get behind them in numbers.
Ladies IFC Round 3
Caulry 1-8
Loughnavalley 2-9
Our ladies hosted a strong Loughnavalley side in the park on Thursday evening last for their third round of the intermediate championship.
Our girls got off to a magnificent start as they opened the game with 1-1 in quick succession: Kate Stuart Trainor initially kicked a point before Aishling Gaynor hit the back of the net after Leah Quigley got under the opposition’s kickout. Caulry added another point (Aine Gaynor from a free) before Loughnavalley got their opening score on the 12th minute (this a goal after a myriad of missed chances). Our girls kept their lead in tact with Gaynor (a free) and Stuart Trainor (two from play) outscoring Loughnavalley 3:1. The visitors hit a purple patch between the 20th and 21st minutes, adding 1-2 to momentarily take the lead. However, a late point from Quigley saw the sides all square at the half time whistle as the scoreboard read 1-6 to 2-3.
The rate of scoring slowly in the second half with the sides splitting eight points. Loughnavalley kicked the first five of these on the 31st, 35th, 44th and 48th minutes. Karrissa Burns and Quigley both added points then to reduce the gap to three. On the 53rd minute, Gaynor’s shot at goal was saved and she was fouled which resulted in a penalty, which ultimately, we failed to convert. Loughnavalley added another point insurance point deep into injury time to secure themselves the win.
Team & Scorers: Rachel Maguire, Aoife Collins, Amy Murphy, Anna Malone, Ella Corcoran, Ruth Martin, Lauren Claffey, Jasmine Maloney, Megan Clinton, Leah Quigley (0-2), Kate Stuart Trainor (0-3), Aine Gaynor (0-2, 2f), Molly Connaughton, Aishling Gaynor (1-0), Karrissa Burns (0-1)

The sides exchanged early points with Liam Malynn adding two for Caulry. Tyrrellspass went ahead by one momentarily on the 8th minute but three minutes later, it was Caulry who led by four: Adam Donoghue found the back of the net before a two-point free by Malynn gave our lads the advantage. However, this game was full of twists and turns as within a matter of minutes the blue and navy side were back four points the good after a brace of points, including two two-point frees. Olan Healy set Nicky Killane up for a point on the 24th minute. The visitors got a well worked goal then when they caught Caulry on the counter attack and raced down the field. Malynn converted a free to leave our lads trailing by five at the break.
Straight from the restart, the opposition got their second goal of the game to leave our lads chasing an eight point deficit. Mark Fitzpatrick’s point on the 32nd minute was cancelled out up the other end of the field then. A brace of converted frees by Malynn halved the deficit by the 39th minute. Tyrrellspass pulled away again slightly with further pointed-frees as a myriad of long balls in by our lads proved unsuccessful. Donoghue’s point on the 50th minute brought the gap back to four. Healy was fouled up front outside the 30m arc and Malynn split the posts to reduce the gap back to two. Caulry were unlucky then as a wonderful strike by Fitzpatrick rattled back off the post. At this stage, our lads had to settle for a point. Tyrrellspass put two back between the sides once again as the last five minutes of play approached. Points from Donoghue and Liam Doyle left it level pegging then as pressure began to mount. Tyrrellspass received a lifeline then in the form of a free in which their no.10 tapped over to allow them to sneak the win late in the game.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Ciaran Gaynor, Johnny Buckley, Luke Hamilton, Rory Mullins, Darren Hynds, Dean Burns, Alan Lynam, Olan Healy, Alan Daly, Liam Malynn (0-12, 5f, 3 2pt.f), Will Buckley, Nicky Killane (0-1), Mark Fitzpatrick (0-2), Adam Donoghue (1-2)
Subs: Stephen Brookes for Rory Mullins, Liam Doyle (0-1) for Nicky Killane, Adam Mullins for Alan Daly, Ciaran Allen for Luke Hamilton, Aaron Murphy for Mark Fitzpatrick
SFC Round 3
Caulry 2-16
Tang 1-13
Our seniors fought back from a six point deficit at the start of the second half to come out on top when they battled it out against Tang in Round 3 of the SFC on Sunday afternoon last.
Scores were slow to come by in the opening minutes of the first half as the sides traded a myriad of wides, with the first score of the game coming after eleven minutes in the form of a Tang free. The opposition had added two more points from play before we got off the mark: doing so on the 18th minute when Conor McCormack converted a two-point free. Tang extended their lead then when a fumble in front of our goal resulted in the ball ending up in the back of the net. The maroon and white side followed this up with a point from play on the 20th minute. McCormack tapped over another free then, but this was cancelled out by a Tang point. It took our lads twenty-seven minutes to register a score from play, this from the boot of Senan Baker. The sides saw out the half by sharing four scores: Tang added a two-point free and point from play while McCormack accounted for our two points (one from a free and one from play). This left the scoreboard reading 1-8 to 0-6 at the halftime whistle.
Tang extended their lead to six as they fisted over the first point of the second half. McCormack’s two-point free reduced the gap back to four. McCormack picked out Luke Buckley then with a super pin-point pass and the later made no mistake in finding the back of the next to leave the narrowest of margins between the sides. Two minutes later, our lads lead by two after McCormack sent over a fantastic two-pointer from play before Buckley split the posts after a Colin Murphy’s shot was saved. The sides shared 0-4 then with Buckley and Baker adding our points. Stephen Connolly put five between the sides on the 49th minute when he raised a green flag (Oisín Shortall was the man who set up this score after intercepting a Tang attack). Tang kicked a free then but Baker replied in style with a fine two-pointer from play. Before the fulltime whistle, the sides shared two placed balls (Tang converted a 45 while McCormack tapped over a routine free) to secure our second brace of points for his year’s campaign.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton, Glenn Carolan, Kevin Maguire, Oisín Shortall, Sean Murphy, Damien Dolan, Eoghan Grennan, Stephen Connolly (1-0), Tadgh Baker, Sean Clinton, Conor McCormack (0-10, 5f, 1 3pt.), Shane Lawless, Luke Buckley (1-2), Alan Malynn, Senan Baker (0-4, 1 2pt.)

Boys U14 Championship
Caulry 5-3
St. Joseph’s 1-10
Our U14 boys came out on top when they hosted St. Joseph’s in the park on Wednesday evening last.
The team traded goals in the early minutes of the game with Robert O’Dowd finding the back of the net for Caulry. St. Joseph’s kicked the first point of the game after seventeen minutes. However, our boys were back in front by the 22nd minute after Joe Carroll pocketed a goal following a display on nice combined teamwork. The sides exchanged points then before the halftime whistle to see Caulry lead by two.
In the early minutes of the second half, St. Joseph added a point either side of a converted free by Senan Hatton. Devon Martin done well in goals throughout, one such example saw him beat the St. Joseph’s forwards as he cleared the ball down the field. Ultimately, this move was finished to the back of the net by Cillian Moran. Another goal (this time by Aengus Baker after he got a touch to a ball in by Gavin Hennessy) further stretched the Caulry lead. However, the visitors to the park got a revival in the final quarter of the game as they used the breeze to their advantage and kicked an unanswered six points to Caulry’s one (from Cian Buckley), bringing the gap back to two. At this point in the game, our boys showed great composure to see out the half as a goal from Sean McGuire brought an end to proceedings and secured the Caulry win.
Panel & Scorers: Devon Martin, Shea Ledwith, Charlie Buckley, Rory Hasson, Joe Walsh, Kyle Mason, Jayden Martin, Senan Hatton (0-2, 2f), Zach Buckley, Ruairi Corcoran, Sean McGuire (1-0), Adam Ledwith, Daniel Casey, Robert O’Dowd (1-0), Cillian Moran (1-0), Aengus Baker (1-0), Gavin Hennessy, Cian Buckley (0-1), Joe Carroll (1-0)
Boys Minor Championship Preliminary Quarter Final
Caulry 2-14
Killucan 2-18
It took extra time to separate Caulry and Killucan to see who would qualify directly for a semi-final spot when the sides met as part of the minor championship in Killucan on Thursday evening last.
The first quarter of the game was sluggish as the teams got a feel for one another. They only exchanged a point apiece in this opening passage (Lee Corcoran opening Caulry’s account after three minutes). Corcoran kicked two fine long range scores (the first on the 16th minute and the second a two pointer on the 19th minute) and this seemed to rile up the Caulry boys. We could have been more ahead had we not of been so unlucky after Luke Berry’s goal was saved before a powerful shot by Brian Doyle rattled back of the crossbar. The homeside kicked a trio of points between the 21st and 25th minutes. However, it was our boys who finished the stronger of the two sides as a brace of scores saw our lads retreat to the dressing room at halftime with a 1-8 to 0-5 lead: Corcoran (after Darragh Martin recovered the ball from going out wide), Dean Martin (a fabulous two pointer after combining nicely with Corcoran and Brian Doyle, who go under the kickout) and Berry (the goal scorer after a ball in by Doyle) were the boys on target for Caulry.
Killucan came out with intent in the second half and now with the breeze at their backs, they started to pick up scores with ease. By the 42nd minute, only one point separated the sides as the yellow bellies kicked six points to one Caulry score (this a converted ‘45’ by Corcoran after Cian Malone’s shot on goal was put out over the line). Our boys managed to widen the gap slightly with points from Aaron Buckley (after a patient build up) and Corcoran (from a free). At this stage in the game, Killucan owned a lot of the possession as they piled pressure on the Caulry defence. Luckily, from our point of view, the homeside were wasteful up front as their tally of wides grew. The opposition reduced the gap to two momentarily on the 57th minute. Our lads managed to launch a couple of attacks but credit to the Killucan defence, they stood strong as goal chances from Ciaran Dunning and Berry were denied. Doyle managed to reinstate our three point lead just as full time elapsed with his fisted point. However, our boys weren't in the clear yet as Killucan built from the following kickout and pocketed themselves a goal to give themselves a fighting chance and at the very least, salvage a draw. The homeside had one more opportunity to take the lead, but this ultimately went wide and the referee signalled full time, sending the game to extra time.
There were almost as many twists as turns in extra time as there was in the preceding 60 minutes of play. Under the Killucan floodlights, the homeside went ahead with two points (one immediately from the throw in and the second from a free). During this first period, our lads had two goal chances stopped.
Straight after the restart, our boys snuck in front after Doyle found the back of the net (this score coming after John Paul’s effort ricocheted off the upright). A point from Corcoran put Caulry two points the good then. However, there was still eight minutes remaining and the homeside weren’t going to lie down easy. They sent over the next two scores to draw level, and now with home support building from the sideline, the tide began to turn against our boys. The homeside booted home the winning goal on the 15th minute after a rebound ball from the post. The sides shared 0-3 in the remaining minutes of extra time (Doyle converting the Caulry point), but ultimately, the yellow bellies had done enough to get over the line. This result forces our lads into a quarter final in the coming weeks.
Team & Scorers: Sam Hatton, Tristan Dolan, Michael McSharry, Eoin McCormack, John McDermott, Rory Hatton, John Paul, Brian Doyle (1-3, 1 ‘45’), Dean Martin (0-2, 1 2pt.), Daniel Lynam, Luke Berry (1-0), Gavin McSharry, Darragh Martin, Cian Malone, Lee Corcoran (0-8, 1 2pt., 1f)

Girls Minor Championship Round 3
Caulry 3-12
Milltownpass 3-11
Our minor girls hosted Milltownpass in the park on a blustery Sunday morning last for their latest championship fixture.
The strong breeze, which favoured the opposition in the opening half, made it challenging to get scores. Ciara Nally opened the account on the 4th minute before a flurry of Milltownpass points put them in front. Aoife Belton, Lauren White and Grace David all added points before a goal from David put our girls in front by one. Moments later, White converted a penalty to give the Caulry girls a four point lead. However, the opposition saw out the half with 1-1 to leave it level pegging at the break.
Our girls started the second half well with scores from White and Nally. Between the 37th and 48th minutes, the sides traded two points apiece. The opposition done well in the final quarter as they outscored Caulry 2-2 to 0-2 to reduce the lead to just one, but our girls managed to hang on and escape with the win.
Panel: Grace Donohoe, Isabelle Madden, Aisling Murphy, Clodagh Shortall, Amelia Nally, Sophie Padden, Grace Shortall, Ciara Nally, Grace David, Eunice David, Aoife McDermott, Lauren White, Aoife Belton, Lilly Ledwith, Tara Collins, Sophie Browne

U20 Championship Semi Final
Caulry 2-6
Tubberclair 3-13
Our U20s hosted Tubberclair in the park on Tuesday evening last for the semi final stages of this year’s championship.
The sides exchanged early points with Aaron Murphy (from a free) and Tiarnán O’Donovan (from play after Brian Doyle’s 45 fell short) adding to the Caulry tally. Tubberclair went ahead on the 13th minute when they worked a goal from a line ball. The opposition followed this up with a flurry of points, three from play and one converted free. By the 22nd minute, there was double digits between the sides after the visitors pocketed their second goal of the game. O’Donovan managed to momentarily draw this score back after he made a run off the shoulder of Oisín Shortall and rattled the back of the Tubberclair net. However, this was short lived at two minutes later, the visitors to the park added their third goal of the game. Tubberclair added a point then before O’Donovan found the net for a second time with a similar strike to this first to leave the scoreboard reading 3-7 to 2-2 at the break.
Tubberclair restarted the scoring with a point in the 34th minute. Andrew Stuart Trainor converted a two-point free then. The rate of scores during the second half slowed dramatically as just two scores were added during the next twenty minutes of play (both Tubberclair points to widen the gap between the sides). John Paul brought off two great saves throughout the second half to deny the opposition. Tubberclair kicked a trio of points between the 57th and 60th minutes. A point from play from O’Donovan rounded off the scoreline as Tubberclair had done enough to progress to the final. Hard luck to our lads and their management team.
Team & Scorers: John Paul, Eoin McCormack, David Gaynor, Rory Hatton, Cody Parker, Cormac Murphy, Dean Martin, Oisín Shortall, Tiarnán O’Donovan (2-2), Brian Doyle (0-1, 1 ‘45’), Lee Corcoran, Kyle Rainey, Brendan McCormack, Aaron Murphy (0-1, 1f), Dean Burns
Subs: Daniel Lynam for Kyle Rainey, Andrew Stuart Trainor (0-2, 1 2pt., 1f), for Brendan McCormack, Dara Shortall for Eoin McCormack
SFC Round 4
Caulry 0-15
Garrycastle 2-19
Our seniors suffered a defeat at the hands of Garrycastle on Saturday evening last when the sides clashed in Cusack Park for this penultimate round robin fixtures of the SFC.
The sides were evenly matched throughout the first half as both accounted for a wide each before Garrycastle opened the scoring from a free after three minutes. Stephen Connolly and Kevin Maguire combined well under the resulting kickout as this move was finished over the bar by Luke Buckley. A number of scoring chances went astray before our lads kicked a trio of points between the 10th and 14th minutes: Senan Baker converted two frees after Tiarnán O’Donovan and Maguire were fouled before Oisín Shortall split the posts (this play coming from a Garrycastle kickout going out over the line). Garrycastle drew one back on the 16th minute, but our confidence was building as O’Donovan and Baker added further Caulry points. Our lads could have almost double the deficit between the sides then when we were awarded a penalty and the opposition’s keeper was forced to the line for the remainder of the half after receiving a black card for his foul on O’Donovan. However, it wasn’t to be as the Garrycastle no. 13 managed to stop Baker’s shot. What should have been a goal for Caulry ended up being finished in the form of a Garrycastle point to reduce the gap to three. The opposition used this blow to our confidence to their advantage as they accounted for 1-2 to take the lead. Before the break, Neil Clinton added a point to leave Caulry trailing by one at the interval.
Two-pointers proved to be the difference between the sides in the second half as Garrycastle added six from play to completely turn the game on its head. Our lads started the half well, and by the end of the 32nd minute, we were back in front after points from Alan Malynn (a free) and Buckley (a fisted effort). The opposition raised their first orange flag then on the 36th minute. Another free by Malynn momentarily tied things up again. But the Garrycastle forwards were on form in the second half as a two-point score and converted free widened the gap back the three. By the start of the final quarter, it was level pegging after a series of points from Damien Dolan, Sean Murphy and Shortall. Just as Caulry got close though, Garrycastle pulled away again as they raised two more orange flags, their no. 14 proving his worth for these series of scores alone. Maguire added a point for us with five minutes to go, but at this stage in the game, there was no stopping the green and red side as they kicked more unanswered scores, including a goal at the end of the full time. A late Caulry goal chance was stopped as this was put over the bar by Malynn but ultimately, the second half blitz by the opposition was enough to get them over the line.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton, Glenn Carolan, Sean Murphy (0-1), Sean Clinton, Kevin Maguire (0-1), Damien Dolan (0-1), Oisín Shortall (0-2), Stephen Connolly, Eoghan Grennan, Neil Clinton (0-1), Senan Baker (0-3, 3f), Shane Lawless, Alan Malynn (0-3, 2f) Tiarnán O’Donovan (0-1), Luke Buckley (0-2)
Subs: Thomas Dunning for Senan Baker, Olan Healy for Eoghan Grennan, Tom Cloonan for Neil Clinton, Harry Stuart Trainor for Damien Dolan
J2FC
Caulry 5-18
Mullingar Shamrocks 1-8
Our juniors had a comprehensive victory over Mullingar Shamrocks when they hosted the side in the park on Sunday morning last.
Caulry hit the ground running when Cormac Murphy tore forward and rattled the back of the net for his first score of the game. Liam Malynn (one from a free and one from play), Rory Mullins and Adam Donoghue all added points before Mullingar Shamrocks got off the mark with consecutive points on the 13th and 14th minutes. Goals from Malynn (after Mark Fitzpatrick regained possession from Malynn’s effort ricocheting off the upright) and Mullins (after he chipped the keeper) further stretched the Caulry lead. Malynn added another point from play before Mullingar got their third goal of the game, this a well taken goal. Fitzpatrick registered conscetuvie scores then: firstly, he got a fist to a dropping ‘45’ to send it over the bar and then he hit the back of the net after being set up by his cousin Cormac. Before the break, the sides shared 0-5 with Murphy and Alan Lynam on target for Caulry.
Throughout the second half, our lads completely took charge of proceedings. David Gaynor, Malynn and Donoghue all added points before Murphy raised his second green flag of the game. Malynn kicked our next four points (two from play and two frees) as the Shamrocks men had to settle for one point on the 38th minute, this a nice long-range effort. Nicky Killane, Murphy and Malynn all added points as a late two pointer for the Mullingar men brought an end to the game.
We wish Johnny Buckley a speedy recovery after he picked up an injury during the game.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Ciaran Allen, Johnny Buckley, Luke Hamilton, Ciaran Gaynor, Darren Hynds, Cormac Murphy (2-2), David Gaynor (0-1), Alan Lynam (0-1), Cody Parker, Liam Malynn (1-9, 5f), Will Buckley, Rory Mullins (1-1), Mark Fitzpatrick (1-1), Adam Donoghue (0-2)

All supporters are asked to get behind the girls and we wish them and their management team the very best of luck.

Boys U16 Championship Quarter Final
Caulry 8-16
Kilbeggan Shamrocks 5-11
Our U16 boys progressed to the semifinal stages of this year’s championship after they overcame Kilbeggan Shamrocks in the park on Monday evening last.
Our boys hit the ground running and notched up 3-5 within the opening twelve minutes of play: our goals came from Rhys Mason, Gavin McSharry and Brian Moran while the point scorers were Kevin O’ Brien, Darragh Martin, Evan Allen and Ryan Doyle. Kilbeggan Shamrocks got off the mark then with a well taken goal, however, there was no stopping our boys as Doyle, MsSharry, Darragh Belton and Luke Berry all added to the scoreline. The opposition drew a couple of scores back before to interval to leave the scoreboard reading 5-9 to 3-4.
The sides traded early points in the second half before two goals from Kyle Mason in quick succession further stretched the Caulry lead. The Kilbeggan boys tried hard but couldn’t close the gap as points from Ewan Kelly, Mason and O’Brien cancelled out the Kilbeggan scores. Ultimately, our boys proved too strong for the opposition and ran out comfortable winners.
Team: Sam Hatton, Marcus Grant, Tom Madden, Conor Padden, Cathal Casey, Luke Berry, Brian Moran, Gavin McSharry, Ewan Kelly, Kevin O’Brien, Rhys Mason, Darragh Belton, Ryan Doyle, Darragh Martin, Evan Allen, Kyle Mason, Ryan Doyle, Stephen O’Reilly
Boys Minor Championship Quarter Final
Caulry 4-13
Esker Gaels 1-12
Our minor boys secured themselves a semi-final spot of this year’s championship when they defeated Esker Gaels in the park on Friday evening last.
Caulry had 2-1 on the scoreboard by the end of the opening five minutes after goals from Brian Doyle and Lee Corcoran and a point from Gavin McSharry. The opposition got off the mark on the 8th minute with a point from play bit this was closely followed by a well-taken point by Dean Martin. Caulry matched all Esker Gaels scores at this point in the game with Daniel Lynam and Doyle raising more white flags. Corcoran struck for a duo of consecutive scores on the 17th minute to stretch our lead; firstly, he rattled the back of the Esker Gaels net before converting a free after Luke Berry was fouled. Lynam and Doyle added further points as a goal from John Paul just before the interval gave Caulry a healthy 4-8 to 0-6 lead at the break.
With a mountain to climb, it was nearly impossible for the Esker Gaels boys to dig out a result as the breeze at this stage in the game had now calmed. Points from Darragh Martin, Corcoran and Berry kept the scoreboard ticking over for Caulry. Throughout the second half, our defence impressed as it withstood the Esker Gaels threat; Michael McSharry and Rory Hatton gave good accounts for themselves with Sam Hatton brought off a number of timely interventions between the posts. Esker Gaels finished the game strong as they pocketed themselves a goal late in the game before adding three points (one of these a very well taken two-pointer). But it all proved to be a little too late from their point of view as our boys march on to the semi-final stages.
Team & Scorers: Sam Hatton, Tristan Dolan, John Paul (1-0), Michael McSharry, John McDermott, Rory Hatton, Eoin McCormack, Brian Doyle (1-3), Dean Martin (0-1), Daniel Lynam (0-2), Lee Corcoran (2-4, 4f), Gavin McSharry (0-1), Darragh Martin (0-1), Cian Malone, Luke Berry(0-1)

Ladies IFC Semi Final
Caulry 3-2
Loughnavalley 3-10
Our ladies bowed out of this year’s intermediate championship when they made the journey to Milltown for their semi-final clash against Loughnavalley on Saturday afternoon last.
Loughnavalley started the game with intent as they tagged on 1-3 early on to take the lead. Ava Hallissy got Caulry off the mark then when she sent the ball into the back of the opposition’s net after Megan Clinton’s effort ricocheted off the post. Loughnavalley converted two frees before Kate Stuart Trainor reduced the gap to two when she hit the back of the net after playing a 1:2. Hallisy kicked points either side of another Loughnavalley point then. However, the opposition made a burst just before the interval, adding an unanswered 1-3 to lead by seven at the break.
Scores were very slow to come by in the second half with the first score of the period coming on the 45th minute, this a Loughnavalley point. Loughnavalley added a goal then too. Our girls did rattle the back of the opposition’s net late in the game, but ultimately, Loughnavalley had done enough to progress to the county final.
Team: Rachel Maguire, Lauren Claffey, Amy Murphy, Anna Malone, Ella Corcoran, Ruth Martin, Aoife Collins, Jasmine Maloney, Aishling Gaynor, Karrissa Burns, Kate Stuart Trainor, Megan Clinton, Grace Shortall, Leah Quigley, Ava Hallissy
Subs: Lauren White for Megan Clinton, Katie Killane for Karrissa Burns, Molly Connaughton for Leah Quigley, Susan Duignan for Aoife Collins
A massive well done and thank you to the girls and their management for all their hard work during the year. Finishing in the final four is a super achievement and this experience will benefit them going forward.
Girls U14 Championship Semi Final and Final
Semi Final
Caulry 6-7
Cill Oige 3-10
Our U14 girls qualified for the Division 2 final when they defeated Cill Oige in the park on Tuesday evening last.
The visitors to the park started the game well and were 1-2 to 0-0 up by the end of the first five minutes. Our girls showed good guts and determination as scores from Lexi Grady, Chloe Doyle, Grace O’Rourke and Kelly Lynam brought the gap back to one. Cill Oige saw out the half well and lead by six at the break.
Two goals from Cara Winters had the game all square with two minutes of the restart. Kate Corcoran’s goal then put Caulry in front. At this point, our girls began to take charge of proceedings as Corcoran, Grady, Kelly Lynam and O’Rourke all added scores to help get Caulry over the line.
Final
Caulry 1-2
Garrycastle 4-7
Our girls had to make the short journey to Garrycastle on Sunday afternoon then to contest the Division 2 county final.
The homeside were first off the mark with a goal straight away. Kelly Lynam converted a free to reduce the gap, but Garrycastle shortly found the back of the net with another goal. The homeside found scores with ease and led at the break.
Playing into the strong breeze in the second half, our girls had a very tough job at hand. Kate Corcoran and Chloe Doyle both added scores but ultimately, it was Garrycastle’s day.
Team: Tara Ledwith, Grace Berry, Abigail Kelly, Sarah Dolan, Annie Doyle, Ellen Shortall, Katie Claffey, Kelly Lynam, Kate Corcoran, Lexi Grady, Chloe Doyle, LilyAnn King, Fia Whyte, Cara Winters, Grace O’Rourke, Caoimhe Browne, Chloe Connell, Ciara Devlin, Gemma Dungan, Emme Fitzgerald, Carla Grant, Grace Hallissy, Roisin Mulvihill
SFC Round 5
Caulry 2-18
Moate 1-13
A massive second half performance helped our lads get over the line against Moate when the sides met in Round 5 of the SFC on Sunday evening last in Cusack Park.
Moate scuppered a goal chance early on before opening the scoring account with a two pointer on the 2nd minute. The opposition then went four ahead: first they added a mark before converting a free after we were penalised for breaching the 3 up rule. Conor McCormack got Caulry off the mark with a converted free on the 10th after Oisín Shortall was fouled. Shortall set up our second score then too as he won the opposition’s kickout and set Senan Baker up for a point. Moate added another from play before Sean Murphy registered the first goal of the game after a nice move via Baker and McCormack. Before the interval, the sides shared 0-6 (McCormack on target for us with a ‘45’ and two-point free) to leave it all square at the halftime whistle.
McCormack restarted the second half scoring in style when he raised his second orange flag, this time from play. Moate immediately drew one back but our lads were only getting started as McCormack and Luke Buckkey both added points before Baker fired home a goal on the 39th minute. A fabulous two-pointer from Baker put ten points between the sides then. Moate kicked the next point of the game, but this was cancelled out up our end of the field by McCormack. Our lads had a fire in their bellies throughout this second half, knowing the task at hand as another orange flag (McCormack with a free) further stretched the Caulry lead. The opposition drew two back from frees then before Tadgh Baker added to the scoreline (this time Kevin Maguire and Colin Murphy were instrumental in setting up this play). Moate were given a life line in the form of a penalty kick on the 56th which their no. 11 dutifully converted. However, it was going to take a lot more than that to dampen our lads spirits as the next score of the game came via Baker. Moate rounded off the scoring with a converted free as this result sees our lads cruise into a quarter final spot against Coralstown/Kinnegad next week.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton, Glenn Carolan, Sean Murphy (1-0), Sean Clinton, Damien Dolan, Kevin Maguire, Eoghan Grennan, Stephen Connolly, Tadgh Baker (0-1), Shane Lawless, Senan Baker (1-6, 2 2pt.), Oisín Shortall, Conor McCormack (0-10, 2f, 1 ‘45’, 3 2pt.), Tiarnán O’Donovan, Luke Buckley (0-1)

Boys U16 Championship Semi Final
Caulry 4-6
Tyrrellspass 9-8
Our U16 boys were defeated in the semi final stages of this year’s championship when they made the journey to Tyrrellspass on Monday evening last.
Our boys got off to the best of starts when Gavin McSharry opened with scoring with a point after 45 seconds before Rhys Mason and Darragh Belton both registered goals. The homeside drew one of these goals back before a point from Kevin O’Brien put four between the sides. Tyrrellspass added four points either side of Mason’s 12th minute point. Despite scores from Ryan Doyle and McSharry, the sides were tied by the 19th minute. It looked as though we might finish at the break in front when Mason converted a Caulry penalty but it wasn’t to be as the homeside levelled in the nick of time to leave it all square at the break.
Tyrrellspass came out as a different team in the second half as they blasted of 3-1 in quick succession to take the lead. The setting sun made it almost impossible for our boys to find the posts with McSharry’s effort on the 41st minute eventually proving successful. The homeside however, had their tails up now and found scores at their ease. Darragh Martin managed to sneak a goal in on the 57th minute but it proved to be too little too late as the homeside cruised on into the county final.
Team & Scorers: Sam Hatton, Conor Padden, Tom Madden, Marcus Grant, Cathal Casey, Luke Berry, Brian Moran, Gavin McSharry (1-2), Ewan Kelly, Kevin O’Brien (0-1), Rhys Mason (2-2), Darragh Belton (1-0), Simeon O’Flaherty, Darragh Martin (1-0), Ryan Doyle (0-1)
Subs: Evan Allen for Ryan Doyle
Girls U16 Championship Semi Final
Caulry 1-7
Garrycastle 4-4
Our U16 girls came up short against Garrycastle when the sides clashed in the semi final stages of this year’s championship on Wednesday evening last.
Garrycastle opened the scoring account with 1-1 in the starting ten minutes. Lily Ledwith got Caulry off the mark then. Ledwith made it two from two when she added her second after combining well with Erin O’Faolain. Eimear Allen put Caulry in front then on the 20th minute when she got a vital touch to a pass in by Daisy Bucks McLaughlin and registered the second goal of the game. A point from Kate Corcoran had Caulry in front by two at the break.
The sides exchanged early points in the second half with O’Faolain on target for us. Garrycastle drew level then at the end of the third quarter with a brace of points. Ledwith’s converted free momentarily put our girls in the lead. However, as the saying goes ‘goals win matches’ and this proved to be true as the opposition rattled off a trio of late goals to take the win despite the best efforts of our girls.
Team & Scorers: Grace Donohoe, Sophie Browne, Emma Allen, Sophie Padden, Grace David, Clodagh Shortall, Amelia Nally, Anna Walsh, Aoife McDermott, Daisy Bucys McLaughlin (0-1, 1f), Erin O’Faolain (0-2, 1f), Eimear Allen (1-0), Kate Corcoran (0-1), Lily Ledwith (0-3, 1f), Roisin Mulvihill
Subs: Kelly Lynam for Eimear Allen, Tara Collins for Emma Allen
Boys Minor Championship Semi Final
Caulry 2-8
Killucan 1-21
Our minor boys bowed out of this year’s championship when they travelled to Killucan last Friday evening to play the homeside under lights in the semi final stages of this year’s competition.
The homeside kicked off proceedings by tapping over two frees. Darragh Martin put Caulry in front when he rattled the back of the Killucan net on the 11th minute (Brian Doyle and Rory Hatton combining well under the kickout before Hatton gave off the pass to Martin). Sam Hatton was put under pressure then, but he brought off a marvellous save to deny the opposition. The game continued on a tit for tat basis momentarily as the sides shared 0-4 (Lee Corcoran converted a free before Hugo McGowan fisted over a point). Dean Martin injected a bit of excitement into the game when he booted over a two-pointer in the 24th minute. Doyle added the next two scores of the game; a point from play and a two point free. Just before the break, the homeside added a free of their own to see them trail 1-7 to 0-5.
The yellow bellies kicked a trio of wides straight after the restart. Our lads followed suit with a trio of missed chances, including Hatton’s goal chance which was well blocked down. The turning point of the game came between the 36th and 43rd minutes when Killucan kicked eight unanswered points which yielded 0-9 (during this period they completely dominated the middle section of the field despite the best efforts of our boys). Corcoran gave Caulry a fighting chance just at the start of the final quarter when he fired home a goal from way out to put the narrowest of margins between the sides. However, the homeside responded well with a point from the kickout. Corcoran added another point for Caulry but it was Deja vu as Killucan raced down the field and added another point of their own. The homeside took it up another gear in the closing minutes of the game, kicking scores from all over the field, securing their place in the county final.
Hard luck to our lads and their management team.
Team & Scorers: Sam Hatton, Tristan Dolan, Michael McSharry, John Paul, John McDermott, Rory Hatton, Eoin McCormack, Brian Doyle (0-3, 1f, 1 2pt.), Dean Martin (0-2, 1 2pt.), Daniel Lynam, Lee Corcoran (1-2), Gavin McSharry, Darragh Martin (1-0), Cian Malone, Hugo McGowan (0-1)
Subs: Luke Berry for Daniel Lynam, Simon O’Grady for Cian Malone
J2FC Quarter Final
Caulry 0-11
St. Paul’s 1-10
Our juniors were knocked out of this year’s J2FC in the quarter final stages when they battled it out against St. Paul’s on Sunday morning last.
Liam Malynn opened the scoring out from a two-point free after three minutes. St. Paul’s weren’t long about drawing level as they raised their own orange flag on the 6th minute. The opposition began to pull ahead then as they added an unanswered 1-3. Before the interval, Adam Donoghue and Darren Hynds both added to the scoreline to leave the opposition leading by six at the break.
St. Paul’s were first off the mark in the second half, adding a point from play. Caulry kicked three points on the trot then: Cormac Murphy and Malynn pointed from play before Malynn converted a free. St. Paul’s momentarily put a stop to our momentum when they converted a free on the 49th minute. Malynn tapped over frees either side of another St. Paul’s point but ultimately, the opposition had done enough to take the win and progress to the semi final.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Ciaran Gaynor, Johnny Buckley, Luke Hamilton, Cormac Murphy (0-1), Darren Hynds (0-1), Rory Mullins, Alan Lynam, David Gaynor, Alan Daly, Liam Malynn (0-8, 5f, 2 2pt.), Will Buckley, Nicky Killane, Aaron Murphy, Adam Donoghue (0-1)
Subs: Adam Mullins for Alan Lynam, Ciaran Allen for Nicky Killane
SFC Quarter Final
Caulry 0-15
Coralstown/Kinnegad 1-17
Our seniors suffered a similar fate later on Sunday evening when they made the journey to Cusack Park to battle it out against Coralstown/Kinnegad in this quarter final fixture.
Coralstown/Kinnegad had 0-3 on the board before our lads got off the mark; Conor McCormack doing so with a two-point free on the 8th minute. The opposition added two more points before extending their lead to seven when their no. 9 booted home a goal after an initial shot for a point came back off the upright. Our lads responded well when Damien Dolan booted over a two-point after Stephen Connolly fielded the kickout. Two points for the white and red outfit preceded a trio of Caulry scores; Shane Lawless added a point on the 20th minute before Senan Baker kicked two (one from a free and one from play). These scores brought an end to the half as the scoreboard read 1-8 to 0-7 as the sides retreated to the dressing rooms.
Both sides scuppered some scoring chances in the restarting minutes of the second half as 40 minutes had elapsed before the first score of the half was converted; this a free from Baker. Coralstown/Kinnegad kicked a trio of scores then as they lead by 1-12 to 0-8 at the end of the third quarter. Baker dragged Caulry right back into contention then when he accounted for the next three scores of the game; he slotted over a point before raising two orange flags (both frees) to leave Caulry trailing by just two. However, Coralstown/Kinnegad’s experience shone through as they were patient in attack as a 53rd minute point settled proceedings and stalled our momentum. Two further scores (one a two point free and a point from play) widened the gap again and gave the opposition some breathing space heading into the last few minutes of play. Our lads saw out the game with Connolly and Sean Murphy contributing late points as this defeat brings an end to the championship campaign. Despite the result, our lads return to Section A of the SFC for 2026. A massive thank you to the lads and their management team of Pat Flanagan, Joe Quinn, Philip Rainey and Kevin Connaughton for their commitment during the year.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton, Glenn Carolan, Sean Murphy (0-1), Sean Clinton, Damien Dolan (0-2, 1 2pt.), Kevin Maguire, Neil Clinton, Stephen Connolly (0-1), Tadgh Baker, Shane Lawless (0-1), Senan Baker (0-8, 4f, 2 2pt.), Oisín Shortall, Conor McCormack (0-2, 1f, 1 2pt.), Tiarnán O’Donovan, Luke Buckley

Boys U14 Championship
Semi Final
Caulry 6-12
Milltownpass 2-5
Our U14 boys qualified for the county final when they overcame Milltownpass in the semi final on Monday evening last in the park.
Points from Adam Ledwith and Senan Hatton helped Caulry into an early lead before the opposition went ahead with a goal on the 14th minute. Our boys had chances to go ahead again, but these efforts fell wide. Joe Carroll got a goal just before the break to give Caulry the marginal lead of 1-3 to 1-2 at halftime.
A trio of points from Ledwith, Zach Buckley and Cillian Moran stretched the Caulry lead in the early stages of the second half. Super subs Aengus Baker and Cian Buckley weren’t long about putting their stamp on proceedings when they were introduced: Buckley won the opposition’s kickout and set Zach up for a goal before Baker added a point from play. Milltownpass responded with a pointed-free then. However, they had no answer for the Caulry forward line who were now on fire. Moran, Robert O’Dowd, Baker, Gavin Hennessy and Buckley all added scores before the full time whistle to set our boys up for a county final clash against St. Joseph’s.
Team & Scorers: Sean Maguire, Shea Ledwith, Charlie Buckley, Rory Hasson, Joe Walsh, Kyle Mason, Jayden Martin, Senan Hatton (0-2, 2f), Robert O’Dowd (1-1), Daniel Casey, Zach Buckley (1-1), Ruairi Corcoran, Adam Ledwith (0-3, 2f), Cillian Moran (2-1, 1f), Joe Carroll (1-0)
Subs: Aengus Baker (0-2), Cian Buckley,0 (0-2), Gavin Hennessy (1-0), Devon Martin
Final
Caulry 2-6
St. Joseph’s 3-5
Our boys then made the journey to Ballymore on Sunday afternoon last to contest the county final against St. Joseph’s.
Both sides were slow to settle with only two scoring chances being converted in the first quarter; both came from Caulry frees with Cillian Moran and Senan Hatton on target. Adam Ledwith kicked the opening score from play after eighteen minutes after nice-combined teamwork from Aengus Baker and Cian Buckley. Moran was unlucky then as the St. Joseph’s goalie done very well to clear his line. Rather we had to settle for another point, again from Ledwith. The opposition, although they struggled to tag on scores in this opening half, looked dangerous by times with our goal-line being put under pressure on the 26th minute; Hatton and Sean Maguire both brought off timely interventions to stop the opposition’s threat. St. Joseph’s eventually got off the mark with a point from play as our boys retreated to the dressing rooms at half time with a three-point lead.
St. Joseph’s started the second half well as they accounted for the first four points to marginally take the lead. A short shot taken by the opposition set up our first attack, which Hatton tapped over the level the game. Within a matter of minutes, the scoreline was turned on its head when our boys struck lucky with two goals: Moran converted a penalty firstly before Ledwith pocketed the second goal (Baker giving off a great pass to set up this move). However, the boys in green and yellow weren’t going to go down without a fight as they battled hard and had the sides back on par with seven minutes remaining as they fired home two goals of their own. A free from Hatton on the 27th minute gave our boys a very dangerous lead heading into the final minutes of play. Despite the very best efforts of our lads, the opposition manage to sneak a late goal, and this transpired to be the last score of the game. Hard luck to our boys and their management but well done on a very successful campaign.
Team & Scorers: Sean Maguire, Shea Ledwith, Charlie Buckley, Rory Hasson, Joe Walsh, Kyle Mason, Jayden Martin, Senan Hatton (0-3, 2f), Robert O’Dowd, Aengus Baker, Zach Buckley, Adam Ledwith (1-2), Cillian Moran (1-1, 1f), Cian Buckley, Ruairi Corcoran, Joe Carroll, Devon Martin, Gavin Hennessy, Dara Quilty, Conor Lynch, Abdullah Awan

Junior B Championship Round 1
Caulry 2-16
Tubberclair 6-7
Our Junior B’s let an eight-point lead slip when they lined out for our first game of this championship campaign under lights in Tubberclair on Friday night last.
The homeside weren’t long about getting going when their centre back drove through the Caulry defence and fired home a goal after two minutes. Our lads drew two points back then: Adam Donoghue opened our scoring with a point from play after Harry Stuart Trainor got under the kickout before Stuart Trainor split the posts for a point of his own after six minutes. The sides shared four points then as Donoghue and Luke Buckley added scores for Caulry. Tubberclair had a goal disallowed on the 17th minute and this gave our lads a platform to build off as Thomas Dunning finished with a point to level the game. The homeside missed two more goal chances before eventually striking lucky at the third time of asking to reinstate their advantage. However, our lads were only coming good now as they launched a quick scoring blitz in the closing minutes of the half to take the lead. Donoghue (two from play), Olan Healy (two from play), Malynn (one from play and one two-point free) and Alan Daly (one from play) all took their points well while Dunning raised a green flag (Neil Clinton sending in a fabulous pass) to see Caulry retreat to the sideline at halftime with an eight-point cushion.
Malynn restarted the second half scoring by tapping over a free. However, it was the homeside who looked more dangerous in these opening few minutes. They added 2-2 in quick succession to bring the gap back to one by the 38th minute. Malynn tapped over another free at this stage in the game to stall the opposition’s comeback. Our lads will rue their missed chances as a trio of opportunities dropped short. The homeside, on the other hand, were less wasteful up front as two points saw them draw level with twelve minutes remaining. Aaron Murphy momentarily put Caulry back in front when he raised a green flag after Malynn’s effort ricocheted off the upright. We had chances then to further our lead, but the strong Tubberclair defence fought with tenacity. One such example saw them overturn our attack and finish with their fifth goal of the game up the other end of the field, making it all square with just four minutes remaining on the clock. The small margins were going to be vital now and it looked as though our lads might stumble over the line when Malynn converted a 58th minute free to put our noses in front. However, with pressure mounting, the homeside were handed a lifeline in the form of a penalty which they dutifully converted. The referee allowed a couple more plays to transpire, but ultimately Tubberclair had done enough as a late free saw them take the win with three points to spare.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Ciaran Gaynor, Johnny Buckley, Luke Hamilton, David Gaynor, Olan Healy (0-2), Harry Stuart Trainor (0-1), Neil Clinton, Alan Lynam, Will Buckley, Luke Buckley (0-1), Thomas Dunning (1-1), Adam Donoghue (0-4), Liam Malynn (0-6, 4f, 1 2pt.), Alan Daly (0-1)

Junior B Championship Round 2
Caulry 2-14
Castledaly 3-11
Caulry and Castledaly had to settle for a share of the spoils when the sides met in Round 2 of this year’s Junior B Championship in the park on a wet and windy Sunday afternoon last.
Our lads started the game well with a steady stream of points coming from Thomas Dunning, Luke Buckley and Liam Malynn (a two-point free). Oisín Shortall got the first goal of the game after ten minutes when Neil Clinton laid off the ball to him to widen the gap between the sides. Castledaly got going on the 12th minute then when they got a goal of their own (Cillian Nagle was unlucky after initially bringing off a fine save). Dunning accounted for the next two Caulry scores. The opposition kicked their first point of the game on the 20th minute from a free and a goal minutes later saw the deficit brought back to two. The visitors saw out the half with a duo of equalising points as the scoreboard read 1-6 to 2-3 at the break.
Points from Aaron Murphy and Cormac Murphy put Caulry momentarily back in front straight after the restart. However, this was short-lived as Castledaly worked the ball from a kickout and finished with their hattrick. A second point from Murphy put the sides back on par before Dunning’s 34th minute score put Caulry marginally in front. Clinton was fouled in front of goal then as the resulting penalty was put into the back of the Castledaly net by Malynn. However, the opposition did not panic as they responded with a trio of points to put the minimum between the sides once again. The sides shared four points between the 42nd and 48th minutes (Shortall and Johnny Buckley on target for Caulry) as a two pointer by Castledaly levelled the game once again. It was now the visitors chance to go in front and they done so with the aid of two well taken points by their keeper who spent much of this second half in our defence. With time ticking, Malynn got our lads back on track as he converted a free after Shortall was fouled up front. Sean Murphy brought off a brilliant interception then outfield as this move could have been finished to the net had the goal line not of been as crowded, but Clinton wisely fisted the ball over the bar as the sides had to settle for a draw on a scoreline of 2-14 to 3-11.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, David Gaynor, Johnny Buckley (0-1), Alan Lynam, Cormac Murphy (0-1), Neil Clinton (0-1), Harry Stuart Trainor, Colin Murphy, Sean Murphy, Will Buckley, Luke Buckley (0-1), Oisín Shortall (1-1), Thomas Dunning (0-4), Liam Malynn (1-3, 1 2pt., 2f), Alan Daly

Girls Minor Championship Round 4
Caulry 4-8
Loughnavalley 0-9
Our minor girls hosted Loughnavalley in the park on Sunday afternoon last for Round 4 of this year’s championship.
Karrissa Burns got our girls off the mark when she booted in a goal after Amelia Nally showed well under the kickout. Euince David kicked our opening point of the game then. Two points for Loughnavalley preceded our second goal of the morning, this from Erin O’Faolain after her attempt at a free landed into the back of the net. O’Faolain converted points either side of a point for Loughanvalley. Lauren White put her name on the scoresheet just before the interval as our girls retreated to the sideline with a lead of six.
Loughnavalley, aided with the breeze in the second half, came right back into contention as they added five points to our two (from Burns after White’s goal was saved and O’Faolain after combining nicely with Burns). White gave Caulry some breathing space then on the 53rd minute when her attempt fell into the back of the next (Siún Lyons was instrumental in setting up this attack after a free run into space). Late scores from O’Faolain and White furthered the Caulry lead, but overall, it was a tight contest.

Girls Minor Championship Round 5
Caulry 1-12
Goldsmiths 3-6
Our minor wrapped up the group-stages of this year’s championship with a draw against Goldsmiths in the park on Sunday morning last.
Goldsmiths got motoring with two pointed frees. Points from Karrissa Burns and Aoife Belton levelled the game. The opposition went ahead again then, but this was short-lived as further points from play from Burns and Anna Walsh put our girls in front. Before the interval, Erin O’Faolain booted over a flurry of scores to leave our girls in front by five.
Our girls started the second half well with Walsh finding the back of the net after five minutes. Grace Donohoe was put under pressure up the other end of the field then as she done well to keep out the first attempt. However, Goldsmiths were patient and snuck in a goal two minutes later. An unanswered 1-1 for the visitors had them trailing by the narrowest of margins with over twenty minutes of play left. Points from Tara Collins and Belton settled the Caulry nerve momentarily. However, Goldsmiths were building momentum and took the lead deep into injury time after they were awarded a penalty. Due to earlier stoppages, the referee allowed play to transpire as O’Faolain put just one between the sides. Our girls had one more chance as substitute Kelly Lynam booted over the levelling point. This result sees our girls finish top of the table and secure themselves a semifinal spot.

Junior B Championship Round 3
Caulry 6-11
Maryland 2-9
Our Junior B team brought an end to this year’s football season with a comprehensive win over Maryland in the park on Sunday afternoon last.
Maryland were first off the mark with a point from play after one minute. Adam Donoghue drew this one back almost straight away. Two points from play for the opposition preceded a pointed-free by Liam Malynn. The men in blue and white added another, but the scoreline was soon turned on its head thanks to goals from Sean Murphy (after he chipped the keeper) and Thomas Dunning (combining nicely with Luke Buckley in a soccer-like style). At this stage in the game, our lads could do no wrong as points followed from Malynn, Murphy, Colin Murphy, Dunning and Aaron Murphy with Thomas, Malynn and Colin each also hitting the back of the Maryland net. The visitors weren’t completely scoreless during this period as they did account for 1-1 to trail by 4-7 to 1-5 at the break.
Donoghue and Malynn added scores early in the second half. Maryland accounted for an unanswered 1-3 then. However, our lads were always in control of proceedings as further scores from Malynn, Murphy, Neil Clinton and Alan Daly ensured our lads the win. This brings an end to the season. Well done to the lads and their management.
