Sponsor Our Sod Fundraiser
Work is ongoing on the development of a state of the art all-weather playing pitch and training area on the recently purchased 5 acres of land adjoining the current Caulry playing facilities. This project will be completed with the aid of a recently acquired Sports Council Grant coupled with sponsorship monies to be raised by the Caulry Club itself. To this end the club are launching a 'Sponsor Our Sod' fundraiser initiative, whereupon present and former club members, players, supporters and friends of the club are invited to sponsor a sod on the new playing pitch for €50 and in return all sponsors will have their names permanently displayed and celebrated on a special plaque to be erected on the club grounds. All sponsors will also be entered into a special draw with excellent prizes to be won which will take place at a special club function to be held in Egans, Mount Temple on June 25th next. A committee member will be calling to all houses this week.
JFC
Caulry 1-9
Athlone 0-14
Caulry suffered their first defeat in this year’s JFC as they made the journey to Athlone on Saturday evening last.
Our lads were first off the mark with a point from Stephen Woods. Some good combined teamwork from Mark Fitzpatrick and Gavin Byrne allowed Stephen Brookes to point. The homeside soon followed suit with three points in quick succession. Eoin Donohoe and Ciaran Allen defended well as Alan Carroll pointed on the quarter hour mark. The teams traded scores, with Michael Fitzpatrick on target for Caulry. Gary Flanagan fielded well as points from Byrne and Woods allowed Caulry to draw level late in the half. However, Athlone worked hard and a pointed-free for the opposition left the scoreboard reading 0-8 to 0-7 at the interval.
On the resumption, Athlone pointed to stretch their lead. Our defence held strong early in the half, with Charlie Parker and Pat Buckley having impressive displays. Alan Carroll rattled the back of the Athlone net on the 7th minute to leave just one point between the sides. Our lads tried hard against a good Athlone defence. However, Athlone rallied on to score an unanswered 0-4. Late points from Flanagan and Woods meant the opposition edged out Caulry on a scoreline of 0-14 to 1-9,
