Division 4 ACFL

Caulry 4-11

Maryland 0-12

Caulry played host to Maryland in their second game of this year’s Division 4 ACFL last Sunday morning.

Both teams were slow to settle and were guilty of early misses. Maryland kicked the first score of the game in the 4^th minute. However, Caulry responded with a well taken goal from Killian Healy after a brilliant pass from Robbie Kenny. A converted free by Alan Carroll left one point between the sides in the 19^th minute. The introduction of Mickey Fitzpatrick, after an injured Robbie Kenny was forced to leave the pitch, gave Caulry a chance to push on. Brilliant fielding from Harry Hughes resulted in Caulry hitting the back of Maryland’s net in the 25^th minute. Further points from Mickey Fitzpatrick and Alan Carroll left two points between the sides at the interval, on a scoreline of 2-3 to 0-7.

Quick points from Stephen Woods and Alan Daly gave Caulry a good platform for the second half. However, Maryland worked hard and by the 40^th minute it was level. This was as good as it got for Maryland as Caulry began to push on with points from Micky Fitzpatrick and Alan Carroll. Caulry hit the back of Maryland's net for the third time in the 49^th with a goal from substitute Gavin Byrne. There was outstanding defending from Michael McMahon, Ernie Buckley, and Conor Dolan. Late points and a goal from Alan Carroll, Stephen Woods and Gavin Byrne enabled Caulry to run out easy winners on a scoreline of 4-11 to 0-12.

Caulry worked well as a team and there were plenty of positives to be taken from this game.
