U16 Championship
Caulry 2-9
Tyrrellspass 2-7
Caulry and Tyrrellspass served up an exciting encounter on Tuesday evening last for our lads’ second game of this year’s U16 championship.
Both sides were slow to settle with early chances not being converted before the homeside opened with a point from play on the 5th minute. The Tyrrellpass defence held strong, denying numerous attacks from Caulry as well worked play from a lineball enabled them to go two points ahead. Shane Lawless then got our boys motoring on the 14th minute with his point after a superb catch at midfield. Tyrrellspass responded well with a point of their own before scores from Alan Malynn and Lawless levelled the game. Our boys then took the lead for a brief period thanks to a converted-free from Malynn. However, the homeside dug deep, scoring an unanswered 1-2. Lawless sent over for his hattrick of points late in the half after good defending from Tadgh Baker to leave the scoreboard reading 1-5 to 0-5 at the break.
The sides burst out of the tracks in the second half, trading goals with Andrew Stuart Trainor on target for Caulry after combining nicely with Malynn and Senan Baker. Alan Lynam and Adam Doyle worked tirelessly in the Caulry defence as the teams exchanged pointed-frees. A fine score from Baker reduced the deficit to two by the end of the third quarter. Ruiari Casey and his Tyrrellspass counter-part must be praised for their brilliant interventions throughout the second half as another couplet of frees for the teams kept the scoreboard ticking over. Malynn slotted over a fine point on the 59th minute to leave our lads trailing by one. However, the Caulry boys’ desire for the win proved vital as their hard-work paid dividends late in the game as Senan Baker tore forward, combining with Malynn who riffled the back of the Tyrrellspass net ensuring our lads escaped with the win on a scoreline of 2-9 to 2-7.

JFC
Caulry 4-9
Tubberclair 0-9
Our juniors made light work of Tubberclair in their second game of this year’s championship on Friday evening last in the park.
It was the visitors who were first to get motoring as they opened with a point on the 6th minute. A few missed chances for the Tubberclair men then preceded the first goal of the game which came courtesy of James Egan after a fine cross over from Anthony Allen. Caulry then attacked the kickout with Peter Smyth rounding off the move with a fine score from play. Tubberclair outscored our lads 0-3 to 0-1 during the remaining quarter to leave the narrowest of margins between the sides on a scoreline of 1-2 to 0-4.
A converted-free from Peter Smyth soon after the restart doubled the deficit as our lads began to play patches of fine football. Further scores from Gary Flanagan and Allen stretched our lead to four before Tubberclair opened their second half account. This score coming from play on the 35th minute. Some good play from Darren Hynds and Sylvester Coughlan allowed Liam Malynn, Smyth and Allen to tag on scores and stretch the margins between the sides. Flanagan’s second score of the game was sandwiched between two Tubberclair points. Caulry were awarded a penalty on the 50th minute which Coughlan sent to the back of the net. The teams then traded scores with Ernie Buckley kicking the last score of the game, ensuring our lads the win on a scoreline of 4-9 to 0-9.

IFC Round 5
Caulry 0-14
Maryland 1-8
Caulry and Maryland served up an exciting encounter in Tubberclair on Sunday evening last where both sides were in search of a win in order to reach the knock-out stages of this year’s IFC.
Both sides were slow to settled with a number of scoring chances falling short or wide of the posts before Conor McCormack opened the scoring tally on the 7th minute with his converted-free after a foul on Andy O’Sullivan. Maryland soon followed suit with a pointed-free of their own. A good passage of play featuring the Clinton brothers resulted in another free, which McCormack neatly converted to edge Caulry in front once again. The game continued on a tit for tat basis as the tally of wides began to build. It was the opposition who kicked the next score of the game after attacking the Caulry kickout. The game continued on a point for point basis as O’Sullivan tagged on another score for our lads. O’Sullivan was then unlucky as his goal chance was well blocked down. Sean Clinton tore forward soon after and sent over what was the last score of the half on the 23rd minute which left Caulry in front by the narrowest of margins on a scoreline of 0-4 to 0-3.
Our lads raced out of the tracks with McCormack pointing 20 seconds after the restart. However, Maryland responded well with two points to level proceedings for a fourth time during the game. Clinton combined well with Emmet Nally who put the minimum between the sides. However, this lead was short-lived as Maryland worked the ball up the field and tapped over a fine score. The Caulry lads were patient in attack against a loaded Maryland defence with Damien Dolan eventually rounding off a move with a point on the 38th minute. Caulry were then rewarded a free which Colin Murphy tapped over to double the deficit. Three McCormack frees stretched the margin to four. However, the opposition were not going to lie down as a goal on the 55th minute meant it was very much ‘game-on’. Alan Daly made his introduction felt as he responded in style, sending over a superb point moments later. Sean Fox worked hard in defence as a point from Nally left three between the sides. The teams then traded scores with O’Sullivan on target for Caulry after a great catch from Stephen Connolly. The Caulry defence done well when put under pressure by the Maryland forwards late in the game as the Caulry supporters welcomed the fulltime whistle with a cheer as the game finished on a scoreline of 0-14 to 1-8.
This win means our lads finish top of the table with 6 points and book themselves a place in a semi-final decider against Tang or Bunbrosna. Well done to the lads and their management.
