Meet and Greet with Colm ‘Gooch’ Cooper

There was a good turnout in the Bó’s on Friday night last and in the park on Saturday morning last for the meet and greet with Kerry legend Colm ‘Gooch’ Cooper. We had a busy, fun-filled morning in the park with Colm. Both our U12 and U16 panels had to privilege of being trained by the All Ireland Club and County winner. A huge thanks to all involved in organising the event, especially Bó Allen, John Malone and Vincent Shortall and to those who provide refreshments. A special thanks also Colm for his visit. It is an honour to have a player of his calibre working with our young players and we wish him the very best in the future.

Division 2 ACFL

Shandonagh 0-13

Caulry got their Division 2 ACFL campaign underway on Sunday morning last when they made the journey to Shandonagh.

Our lads were first off the mark with a pointed-free from Conor McCormack early on. Shandonagh were slow to settle and were guilty of missing early scoring opportunities as a fine point from Cialan Dollard doubled the deficit after nice combined teamwork from McCormack and Colin Murphy. Declan Donohoe and Damien Dolan defended well in the early stages of the game as Murphy put his name on the scoresheet on the 11^th minute. Cillian Nagle kept his goal clear as Harry Hughes raced up the field and kicked Caulry’s fourth point of the game. Shandonagh soon settled and registered their first score on the 16^th minute. The opposition began to play patches of fine football and rattled off three quick points to level proceedings on the 22^nd minute. Some fine defending from Damien Dolan and a great block from Nagle denied Shandonagh two late goal scoring opportunities. However, the opposition worked hard with two quick points to take the lead at the interval on a scoreline of 0-6 to 0-4.

Shandonagh raced out of the tracks early in the second half with two fine points. Murphy drew one back after good work from Dolan and Jack O’Kelly Lynch. Another pointed-free from Murphy left just two points between the sides on the 40^th minute. Despite some fine defending from Darren Hynds, the opposition rallied on with three fine points between the 42^nd and 50^th minute. Our lads tried hard as a point from O’Kelly Lynch narrowed the margins. However, the opposition responded well with a point of their own. Dolan and McCormack combined well out field to set Liam Malynn up for a goal on the 27^th minute. However, Shandonagh kept their composure as they settled for a point after an initial attempt rattled off the crossbar. Ultimately, our lads chased the deficit throughout as a late point from Eoghan Grennan meant Shandonagh ran out winners with two points to spare on a scoreline of 1-8 to 0-13.
