Senior and Junior Championship Fixture
Caulry make the journey to Tubberclair on Sunday evening next for their second game in this year’s SFC. The opposition will be provided by our neighbours Castledaly. After last week’s performance against The Downs, our lads will be hoping to do one better and pick up their first brace of points in this year’s campaign. Kick-off is at 7pm with this local rivalry promising to be an exciting affair. All supporters are asked to get behind the lads.
Our junior team also begins their championship campaign on Thursday evening when they play host to Rosemount at 7:30pm. All support is greatly appreciated.
U16 Championship

Shandonagh 4-4
Caulry travelled to Shandonagh on Monday week last for the opening round of this year’s Under 16 championship. On a beautiful summer’s evening, both sides had chances in the early exchanges, before the home side pointed. A well worked passing movement from our lads, saw Thomas Dunning swivel to equalise. With Glenn Carolan back to his best form at full back and well flanked by corner men, Colm Shortall and Luke Hamilton, we repelled the opposition. Unfortunately for us we failed to make our attacks stick, and turn over off some cheap possession put us under a period of sustained pressure, where we conceded an unanswered 3-3. Our depleted forces suffered further when Rory Mullins suffered an injury and, was forced to swap places with goalkeeper, James Clavin. As the half worn on, Luke Buckley proving was a good fulcrum in attack, with good support from Adam Donoghue and Shane Hynes, Luke eventually crashed the ball to the net. Luke and Adam followed up with two points, and suddenly the half time deficit did not look so daunting, 3-4 to 1-3.
On the changeover, Thomas Dunning and Adam Donoghue took control of the midfield area with high fetching and defence bursting runs. With the attaching support of half backs, Ciaran Gaynor, Zach Nolan and the outstanding, Daniel Buckley we completely dominated the second half. A great finish from keeper turned poacher, James Clavin added momentum. Luke Buckley was continuing to prove a thorn in the home, and with Alan Malynn and Leroy Coughlan growing into the contest, it only looked a matter of time, despite conceding a breakaway goal against the run of play. A similar type point for the home side left two points in it with clock in red. A final assault resulted in a twenty metre free in.
Referee, Barry Kelly issued last play call. Adam Donoghue sent a powerful shot crashing off the crossbar and the final whistle sounded much to the delight of the home side and dejection of the Caulry lads.

U14 Championship

Shandonagh 5-11
Our U14 boys suffered a second defeat in their championship campaign on Thursday evening last when they played host to Shandonagh.
Our boys started the game well with Senan Baker opening the scoring tally after a superb pass from James Buckley. Shandonagh drew level on the 6th minute after a good save from Ruairi Casey meant they had to settle for a point. The Caulry lads worked well as Alan Malynn and Shane Lawless kicked the next two scores of the game. A pointed-free for the opposition kept them in touch by the quarter-hour mark. Alan Lynam defended well as a point from Paul Hogan left just two points the margins. However, Shandonagh battled hard and took the lead after a well-taken goal on the 18th minute. Sean Murphy and Tom Cloonan defended well as Casey brought off another good save. The teams traded scores with Malynn tapping over another pointed-free. Some good combined teamwork from Malynn and Cloonan enabled Hogan to rattle the back of the opposition’s net just before halftime to leave Caulry leading 1-5 to 1-4 at the break.
The Shandonagh boys raced out of the tracks in the second half with a quick goal to put their noes in front. Malynn pointed to reduce the deficit. However, Shandonagh pushed on kicking a range of points. Despite some good work from Oisin Shortall and Shane Lawless, our boys struggled to register a score in the second half. A goal for Shandonagh on the 42nd minute left six points between the sides. The game then went on a point-for-point basis with Andrew Stuart Trainor and Malynn on target. The Shandonagh boys proved too strong for our lads as they scored an unanswered 2-2 in quick succession. James Buckley and Shandonagh pointed late in the half which left Caulry trailing 5-11 to 1-11 at the fulltime whistle.

Senior Championship Round 1

The Downs 1-13
Caulry went down by the narrowest of margins on Saturday evening last in their opening game of this year’s SFC in Cusack Park.
Despite the poor, slippery conditions, our lads raced out of the tracks with a point from Emmet Nally after some good work from John Maguire and Damien Dolan. The Downs missed an early goal opportunity and drew level on the 3rd minute with a fine point of their own. A fisted effort from Gary Flanagan put Caulry’s noses in front by the 5th minute. Our lads were unlucky up front, missing some shots on goal as Nally pointed to leave two points between the sides. Alan Fitzpatrick fielded well as Harry Hughes sent over a fine point on the 13th minute. Despite some good defending from Sean Clinton and Eoin Fox, The Downs pointed on the quarter-hour mark to reduce the deficit. Flanagan was denied a goal on the 18th minute as a fine point for the opposition left just one point the margin. The game went on a point-for-point basis with Conor McCormack and Andy O’Sullivan on target for Caulry. Cillian Nagle brought off a good save in goals as a late point from Damien Dolan left Caulry leading 0-7 to 0-5 at the interval.
Our lads got off to a great start early in the second half with a superb point from Dolan inside the opening 20 seconds. However, The Downs responded well with a quick score of their own. Nally pointed to stretch Caulry’s lead as O’Sullivan was unlucky to miss another shot on goal. A fine point from Robbie Hickey left four points between the sides. Our lads began to push on as O’Sullivan tapped over another pointed-free. Declan Donohoe defended well as some trojan efforts from Nally found Hughes who registered his second point of the game. The Maguire brothers combined well as the ball was brilliantly worked up the field and tapped over the bar by Hickey on the 39th minute. Another fine score from Hughes left Caulry leading by eight points with a long 20 minutes to be played. The Downs drew one back on the 41st minute as our lads seemed to sit back and let the opposition back into the game. The all-important score of the match came on the 44th minute as The Downs rattled the back of the Caulry net to leave just four points between the sides. The Downs men fought hard, kicking four unanswered points to draw level on the 54th minute. McCormack slotted over a pointed-free to edge Caulry in front. However, The Downs showed a never-say-die attitude as they dug deep, kicking two late points. Ultimately, our lads played patches of fine football and were unlucky to be edged out on a scoreline of 1-13 to 0-15.
