Sympathies

It was with great sadness and regret that we learned of the death of Seamus Casey recently. Seamus was a dedicated Caulry clubman and for many years was very much involved in the running of the club, serving as club patron since 2008. Seamus played a myriad of roles within the club throughout the years, including serving as secretary (1953-1957) and chairman in 1968. He was also very much involved in the development of the club throughout the 1960s as he chaired a newly developed sports committee in 1965 and was elected as a trainer in 1964. Aside from his various committee roles, Seamus will forever be remembered for the football he played with the club throughout the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Seamus played junior football with Westmeath and being described as a ‘menace’ in the forward-line, his honours with Caulry include winning a junior championship in 1957 and winning leagues in 1956 and 1957. The club extends its deepest sympathies to his sons, James, current club chairman and Michael, and their families at this time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

All Ireland Football Final Tickets Draw

Caulry are holding an All Ireland Football Final Tickets Draw on Friday 31^st of August 2018 in Egan’s Pub, Mount Temple. There are lots of prizes up for grabs on the night including four tickets for the All Ireland Football Final. Tickets are €5 each or €10 for a book of three and are available from any committee member and Kieran’s shop, Mount Temple.

U12 Football

Our U12 boys had a good win over Multyfarnham in the park on Wednesday evening last.

Two quick goals from Max O’Sullivan drove Caulry into an early lead. Aaron Hanevy and Aaron Murphy worked well together as they found David Gaynor who registered Caulry’s third goal of the game. The Multyfarnham boys tried hard against a strong Caulry defence, with Darragh Shortall and James O’Brien having stand-out performances. Despite some good play from Cody Parker and Cian Lawless, our boys struggled to convert points as the visitors kicked three fine scores to reduce Caulry’s lead. The Caulry boys worked hard throughout the second half with Max O’Sullivan pointing after a fine ball in from Aaron Murphy. Dean Martin worked hard as Max got his second point of the match. Despite some fine saves by Fionn O’Donovan, the Multyfarnham boys hit the back of the Caulry net. However, our lads responded well with a fine score from Aaron Hanevy. Aaron Murphy kept Caulry in front with his goal halfway through the second half. The Caulry subs done well when introduced with Rory Hatton adding two good scores. A late converted-free from David Gaynor saw Caulry run out winners on a scoreline of 4-6 to 3-7. Well done boys.

IFC

Caulry 2-12

Milltown 0-16

Our lads notched up their second consecutive win in this year’s IFC when they battled it out against Milltown in TEG Cusack Park on Sunday evening last.

Both sides were slow to settle, exchanging early wides as a fumble in the Caulry defence enabled Milltown to kick the first score of the game on the 4^th minute. Peter Smyth soon drew level with his fine point from play. Our lads then raced into the lead as an effort from Ben Kenny fell short and was nicely tapped into the back of the Milltown net by Andy O’Sullivan. Both teams missed a brace of scoring chances as they shared four points between the 10^th and 18^th minute, with Cialan Dollard on target for Caulry. Despite good play from Sean Clinton and Damien Dolan, it was the opposition who made the next attack which failed to pay dividends as a Milltown shot on goal rattled back off the crossbar. Some great combined teamwork from Alan Fitzpatrick and Smyth set Clinton up for a point on the 23^rd minute. The game went on a point-for-point basis with Dollard tapping over a free resulting from a foul on O’Sullivan. Eoghan Grennan then put his name on the scoreboard with his fisted effort on the 28^th minute. Dollard and Colin Murphy both tagged on scores before Milltown registered a late point to leave the scoreboard reading 1-8 to 0-5 at the halftime whistle.

Milltown raced out of the tracks with two quickfire points in the second half. Smyth kicked Caulry’s opening score of the half before Milltown drew two back. Clinton drove forward and found Grennan who added to the scoring tally. Cillian Nagle brought off a vital save on the 39^th minute as the opposition settled for a point. Damien Dolan worked tirelessly in defence as a Peter Smyth point saw Caulry lead by four by the end of the third quarter. However, the Milltown lads never gave up as they raised three white flags to leave the narrowest of margins between the sides. Harry Hughes done well when introduced as he found Dolan who drove forward and riffled the back of the Milltown net with 10 minutes remaining. O’Sullivan then pointed to leave Caulry five points the good. However, Milltown kept in touch, adding three late points. Late defending from the two Fox brothers and Ben Moran enabled our lads to run down the clock and take the win on a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-16.
