U13 Championship Shield Semi-Final

Caulry 5-9

Tyrrellspass 2-4

Our U13 boys had a good win in their shield semi-final on Saturday afternoon last when they hosted Tyrrellspass in the park.

The Caulry lads hit the ground running and were 1-1 up within two minutes of kick-off thanks to scores from Brian Doyle and Simon O’Grady. Tyrrellspass almost levelled the playing field moments later when their no. 8 won the ball and made a burst forward with only one thing on his mind, a goal which he neatly pocketed. Lee Corcoran then put Caulry in the driving seat as he notched up an unanswered 1-2. Further scores from Rory Hatton and Doyle preceded Tyrrellspass’ next score. Points for the visitors on the 21^st and 29^th minutes reduced the deficit but a late point from Aaron Buckley saw Caulry lead 3-7 to 1-2 at the break.

Fionn O’Donovan opened Caulry’s second half scoring account after some good play by Lee Fallon. The opposition were unfortunate as a shot in riffled back of the post on the 35^th minute. O’Grady added 1-1 before Tyrrellspass pointed from play. The sides then exchanged goals at either end of the field with O’Donovan firing home for the Caulry boys. The Tyrrellspass goalie brought off a number of good saves throughout as a late surge from his side proved to be too little too late as this win sees the Caulry boys advance to the shield final.

U15 Championship Semi-Final

Killucan 1-8

Our U15s bowed out of this year’s championship in the semi-final stages when they came up short against Killucan in the park on Sunday afternoon last.

A converted-free from Oisin Shortall got the homeside motoring early on. Darragh Shortall then set up Caulry’s second score of the game when he took a short free to Andrew Stuart Trainor who set Aaron Murphy up for a point. Moments later, Conor Hynes pulled on a loose ball and put Caulry three points the good. Despite this very bright start, our lads never pushed on as Killucan accounted for the remainder of the first half scores. Max O’Sullivan brought off a good save on the 4^th minute, the rebound of which was put over the bar for Killucan’s opening score. Our lads were guilty of some wasteful possession as two scores for the opposition saw them draw level on the 11^th minute. The opposition dominated the second quarter, but failed to notch up scores, converting just two chances to lead at the break 0-5 to 0-3. Caulry were lucky to have such narrow margins between the sides at this interval thanks to some great saves by their no.1 O’Sullivan.

Shortall opened the scoring account again in the second half with another pointed-free. A goal chance for Caulry went astray as the Killucan boys moved the ball well up the field and finished with a fine point from play. Despite initially bringing off a good save, O’Sullivan fell short of Killucan’s second strike as they rattled the back of the net on the 46^th minute. However, the Caulry boys responded in style as a pass from Stuart Trainor found Aindriu Lynam who riffled the back of the net to bring the scoreline back to two. Two wides for Killucan sandwiched another Shortall free. Tadgh Baker made a good burst forward, with this move resulting in a foul on Lynam. The ensuing free was converted by Stuart Trainor and meant it was level pegging with five minutes to play. Killucan worked the ball from the kickout and again finished with a fine point from play. A free on the 60^th minute gave them a dangerous lead of two points as the Caulry lads searched desperately for a goal. Unfortunately, it was not to be as the Killucan lads hung tight and escaped with the win on a scoreline of 1-8 to 1-6.
