Leinster Intermediate Club Championship Fixture

After their great achievement in claiming the county title, our Intermediate squad now turn their attention to the Leinster club championship campaign which takes place on Sunday next, October 26^th in Athlone. The opposition will be provided by Wicklow county champions, Dunlavin. This eagerly-awaited clash throws-in at 1:30pm. All supporters are asked to cheer on the Caulry lads in their bid for glory as they represent club and county in pursuit of more honours.

The very best of luck to the lads and their management team of John Benton, Damien Keenan and Robbie Ryan.

U14 Division 2 Championship Final

Tubberclair 1-8

Our U14 boys were crowned county champs of the Division 2 Championship after they overcame Tubberclair on Saturday afternoon last in Rosemount.

Both teams were slow to settle and were guilty of missing some early scoring chances as they came to terms with the slippery conditions. Cormac Murphy then opened the scoring account after 5 minutes as he fired over a point after some good out-field play by Tadgh Baker. A pass from Andrew Stuart Trainor fell into the arms of Tiarnan O’Donovan who made no mistake as he tore through the Tubberclair defence as riffled the back of the net. However, it was the opposition who responded in incredible fashion as they raced up the field and registered their own three-pointer to get off the mark. A point moments later left the game at level-pegging with 9 minutes gone. Max O’Sullivan done well when called upon in goals as he diffused the Tubberclair threat as the ball was worked up to Aaron Murphy who edged Caulry in front. The teams then hit a dry-spell as a number of attempts feel wide of the target with Tubberclair kicking the next score of the game on the 20^th minute. It was our boys who then launched the next series of attacks with just three paying dividends as scores from Stuart Trainor and Brendan McCormack left Caulry leading by three at the break on a scoreline of 1-5 to 1-2.

Our lads burst out of the tracks in the second half with points from Stuart Trainor and Oisin Shortall stretching the margins between the sides. Caulry then pounced on the Tubberclair kickout as a goal from McCormack put our lads eight points the good. Once again, the Caulry defence held tight when put under pressure by the opposition’s forwards as the game went on a point-for-point basis with Murphy and Stuart Trainor on target for Caulry. Cormac Murphy and Oisin Shortall must be praised for their tireless performance throughout as Aaron Hanevy pointed on the 47^th minute to cushion our lead. However, the Tubberclair boys still had a burst of energy in them as they rattled off the next three points to narrow the deficit. Shortall restored one of these late in the half as Tubberclair dominated most of the possession. The opposition tried hard for a goal in the closing stages of the game as the Caulry defence held tight before Tubberclair sent over the last point of the game, ensuring our lads ran out winners on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-8.

U20 Championship

Mullingar Shamrocks 1-11

Our U20s bowed out of this year’s championship when they hosted Mullingar Shamrocks in the park on Sunday morning last.

The visitors hit the ground running with a goal two minutes after the throw-in as our lads were slow to start. Donoghue then opened our scoring account with his point from play on the 4^th minute. Caulry punished a mistake from the Mullingar Shamrocks defence as Donoghue added his second. The teams then traded wides before a point from Liam Malynn levelled the scoring account. Sean Fox brought off a good intercept in the Caulry defence as the move was finished at the other end of the field with Sean Woods adding a point. Mullingar Shamrocks were next to score, which preceded a purple patch for the homeside which saw Malynn, Donoghue and Cialan Dollard adding points courtesy of good outfield play by Adam Mullins and Neil Clinton. The Mullingar lads drew two back on the 20^th and 22^nd minutes before our lads outscored them 0-3 to 0-0 to lead at the interval on a scoreline of 0-10 to 1-3.

Mullins made a good burst forward early in the second half and tagged on the opening score. The Mullingar Shamrocks’ goalie brought off a good save moments later as Caulry recycled the ball well with Colin Murphy settling for a point on the 37^th minute. Another goal chance went astray for our lads as Mullingar Shamrocks began chipping away at the deficit with three unanswered points. The Mullingar men dominated at midfield and our lads began to struggle as their tally of wides grew. The opposition then drew level on the 54^th minute. A third goal chance failed to pay dividends for our lads as Malynn put Caulry’s noses in front with his converted-free on the 57^th minute. However, it was the opposition who finished the better side, tagging on two points late in the game to steal the win on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-13.
