Minor League
Caulry vs. Cill Óige
Caulry 6-14
Cill Óige 4-9
Our minors picked up their fourth consecutive win in this year’s league when they played Cill Óige on a sunny Wednesday evening last in Rosemount.
Cill Óige launched the first attack which trickled out wide before Olan Healy kicked the opening score of the game after a patient build up. Thomas Dunning then brought off a fine catch at midfield before combining with Adam Donoghue and doubled the deficit. Luke Buckley sent a fine ball in which landed in the arms of Donoghue who rattled the back of the Cill Óige net on the 2nd minute. Another well-taken goal from the boot of Sean Malone preceded a routine free from Alan Malynn. Cill Óige then found their shooting boots as they drew one back on the 6th minute. The opposition began dominating at midfield with two quick-fire goals bringing them back into contention. Two further points from play saw the homeside draw level on the 13th minute. Our lads never panicked as two scores from Malynn got Caulry back on track. Malone done well on the 18th minute with Buckley finishing the move and adding another point for Caulry. Luke Hamilton then put his name on the scoresheet as he attacked the Cill Óige kickout and riffled the ball to the back of the net. The opposition responded with two fine points before good defending from Sean Murphy set Malynn up for his fourth point of the game. The teams then shared four points before the interval to leave Caulry leading 3-9 to 2-7.
Dunning raced out of the tracks with a fine score inside the opening seconds of the second half. Cill Óige then missed a couple of scoring opportunities as converted-frees from Malynn kept the scoreboard ticking over. A number of unsuccessful scoring chance for our lads was sandwiched between two fine goals from Donoghue and Buckley on the 39th and 44th minutes. Both sides were guilty of missed chances before Cill Óige registered the next score of the game on the 52nd minute in the form of a goal. However, our lads responded with a goal of their own from the boot of Buckley after good play from Dunning. James Buckley and Malynn added points for Caulry before a late goal for the opposition saw Caulry run out winners on a scoreline of 6-14 to 4-9.

Caulry vs. Athlone
Caulry 4-13
Athlone 2-13
Our minors notched up their second win of the week on the following Sunday morning when they hosted Athlone in the park.
Our lads were first off the mark with early points from Adam Donoghue and Luke Buckley. Alan Malynn then put his name on the scoresheet after some good team play from the Caulry boys. Donoghue pounced on the Athlone kickout and set Thomas Dunning up for his first of the game. The opposition drew one back with a converted-free on the 11th minute. However, our lads began to push on as James Carey rattled the back for the Athlone net after some good work from Sean Malone and Donoghue. Athlone then converted another free. This was followed by a decent Caulry spell which yielded an unanswered 2-2. Dunning’s point on the 15th minute preceded the second goal of the game which came from the boot of Buckley after a fine pass from Malynn. Donoghue and Malynn then added to the scoring tally as the Caulry defence done well, diffusing any threats from Athlone with Harry Stuart Trainor and Colm Shortall having fine displays. Athlone’s second score of the game came from another placed ball on the 21st minute. However, two points from Malynn kept the Caulry lead intact. A fine score from Buckley was sandwiched between two more points for the opposition before Malynn took a quick free, combining nicely with Olan Healy and finished by netting a goal. A late point for Athlone saw Caulry lead 4-9 to 0-6 at the break.
Despite early interventions from James Calvin and Ciaran Gaynor, the opposition were first to impress after the restart with an unanswered 1-4. Donoghue kicked the homeside’s opening score of the half on the 40th minute to settle Caulry back into the game. The teams then shared four points with Dunning adding two fine long-range scores for Caulry. Our lads were guilty of some wasteful possession as another point for the visitors chipped away at the deficit. Our lads raced into an early lead with a goal from Dylan Kelly McCormack and point from Tiarnan O’Donovan. The opposition then drew two back with two long-range points. The Caulry boys worked well as a team and recycled the ball with Aaron Hanevy finishing off a nice move. Points from Stuart Trainor and Dean Byrne gave our lads confidence before two quick-fire goals from Stuart Trainor and O’Donovan saw our lads build up a commanding lead. The teams then traded 1-1 with Hanevy and Oisin Shortall on target for the homeside. Darragh Shortall brought off a vital intercept late in the half as Cill Óige were forced to settle for a point which saw them trail 4-6 to 1-4 at the break.
Playing with the aid of a strong breeze on our backs, our boys tagged on a number of fine scores throughout the second half. Hanevy opened the second half tally before a fine pass from Cormac Murphy found Max O’Sullivan who netted. Further scores from Stuart Trainor, O’Donovan and Brendan Kelly McCormack stretched our lead. The opposition then rattled the back of the Caulry net on the 39th minute. However, our lads never looked phased as scores from Hanevy and David Gaynor kept our lead intact.
