Division 1 ACFL

Caulry 0-8

St. Lomans 0-12

Caulry travelled to Lakepoint Park on Tuesday evening last for their latest Division 1 ACFL fixture.

Caulry raced into a two point lead with points from Conor McCormack and Sean Doyle. A well-taken point from John Heslin got St. Lomans off the mark in the 6^th minute. Lomans began to push on. However, the Caulry defence worked brilliantly throughout. Points from David Brookes, Alan Fitzpatrick and Conor McCormack left two points between the sides at the interval, on a scoreline of 0-7 to 0-5.

On the resumption, the Caulry lads made credible efforts to make up the deficit with Kevin Maguire, Gary Flanagan and Alan Fitzpatrick valiant in their endeavours. Michael McMahon, Damien Dolan and Declan Donohoe also had fine games in defence. Joe McMahon was a safe and reliable keeper with some timely and important interventions. However, apart from Conor McCormack, who had a fine game throughout, the Caulry attack lacked the necessary support and guile to make incisive roads on the scoreboard. The match finished on a final score of 0-12 to 0-8.

Under 14 Feile Peil Na Nog

Caulry 3-1

Killucan 3-3

Caulry bowed out of the Feile Peil na Nog after this semi-final clash with Killucan at our sun kissed local pitch on Saturday morning last. Caulry got off to the worse possible start and conconceeded three goals early in the first period. Two of the scores were from penalties, with one award very harsh to say the least. However, our lads had much the better of the play, but were unable to impose their A game on a much bigger and physical opposition. At half time it was 3-0 to 0-1. As expected, the boys in red and white took the game to the saffron on the changeover and laid siege to their goal except was some breakaway scores. Eventually Adam Donoghue crashed to the net. This was followed by a great move, unfortunately ending with a fisted goal effort from Roan Sweeney, millimetres wide, after great intuition by Roan. Daniel Buckley and Adam Donoghue then scored two long range efforts. A series of goalmouth scrambles and heroic blocking and defending, ensued, but, try as they might that elusive fourth goal did not materialise. It was a very dejected bunch of Caulry boys at the final whistle, because this was one that was left behind. However, over-elaboration and wrong options at vital stages cost them dearly, and these are two big lessons which will really help their development going forward. However, we are extremely proud of the efforts of all our players, and hopefully they can further develop their talents through the league and championship. This is a very talented bunch of players who will provide many more hours of skilful entertainment.
