Division 4 ACFL

Caulry 3-16

Tyrellspass 1-9

Caulry picked up their first brace of points in this year’s Division 4 ACFL as they played host to Tyrellspass on Saturday evening last.

Both teams were slow to settle. A Gary Flanagan point got our lads off the mark on the 6^th minute. This was shortly followed by point from Stephen Woods. However, Tyrellspass began to dominate proceedings, scoring an unanswered 0-4. Some good fielding from Gary Flanagan and a superb pass from Gavin Byrne found Woods, who pointed to narrow the deficit. Pat Buckley and Michael McMahon defended well as Peter Smyth and Stephen Connolly kicked the next two scores of the game. A pointed-free for Tyrellspass levelled proceedings. However, our lads worked hard as Connolly rattled the back of the opposition’s net on the 23^rd minute. A foul on Connolly allowed Smyth to send the ball to the back of the net from the resulting penalty. Tyrellspass kicked the next two scores of the game. Michael Carroll brought off a great save in goals and a late pointed-free from Smyth meant Caulry led 2-6 to 0-7 at the halftime whistle.

Caulry raced out of the tracks early in the second half with points from Emmet Nally and Smyth. Tyrellspass began chipping away at the deficit with an unanswered 1-2 in quick succession. However, our defence worked brilliantly throughout, with Harry Hughes and Conor Dolan having impressive displays. Smyth rattled the back of the Tyrellspass net for a second time after a great pass from Stephen Brookes. Further points from Alan Daly and Nally allowed Caulry to push on. Our lads worked tirelessly throughout and points from Hughes, Brookes and Byrne allowed the homeside to run out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 3-16 to 1-9.

Under 16 League Division 1

The Downs 5-12

On Monday week last, April 18th, Caulry travelled to The Downs for what was their first encounter in this year’s Westmeath Under 16 League. A well worked move ended with Thomas Dunning shooting a fine point from distance. Caulry were winning the early possession but could not add to the scoreboard. Then the concession of some soft frees and a penalty gave the home side a foothold that they would not relinquish. The score read 3-6 to 0-4 at half time. The normal fighting qualities and spirit of our lads never materialised in the second half. Our challenge petered out in a very tired lack lustre display, despite the best efforts of Adam Mullins, by far our best player on the night, James Clavin, Dylan Lowry, Neil Clinton, Thomas Dunning and Liam Doyle.

U14 Feile Semi-Final

Caulry 0-7

Coralstown/Kinnegad 1-8

Caulry and Coralstown/Kinnegad served up an exciting encounter in the U14 Feile semifinal on Sunday evening last where our lads came up short against a strong opposition.

Coralstown/Kinnegad were first off the mark in the first half. Our lads soon followed suit as Jamie Conlon pointed on the 7^th minute. Rory Casey brought off a great save in goals and the rebound was tapped over the bar to stretch the opposition's lead. Some good defending from Tom Cloonan and Olan Healy allowed Jamie Conlon to tap over another fine score to leave one point between the sides at the interval on a scoreline of 0-4 to 0-3.

Our lads raced out of the tracks in the second half with James Carey on target. The teams traded scores with Rory Mullins pointing for the homeside. Some good combined teamwork from Sean Murphy and James Buckley allowed Roan Sweeney to point on the 12^th minute. A point from Alan Malynn put Caulry’s noses in front. However, the all-important score came as Coralstown/Kinnegad rattled the back of the Caulry net. Three points in quick succession late in the half secured the opposition the win on a scoreline of 1-8 to 0-7.
