Division 4 ACFL
Caulry 0-5
St. Joesph’s 5-16
Our juniors suffered a heavy defeat at the hands on St. Joseph’s on Saturday afternoon last for their opening game of this year’s Division 4 ACFL campaign.
The visitors to the park had notched up four unanswered points before our lads got motoring on the 9th minute after a point from Ben Kenny. Liam Malynn’s free moments later halved the deficit. St. Joseph’s kicked the next two points of the game before Declan Donohoe was well blocked down up front. Caulry had to settle for a point in this instance, which Malynn dutifully tapped over the bar. The visitors had a late burst which saw them rattle in a hattrick of goals to lead at the break.
Our lads now had a mountainous task ahead of them in the second half. Malynn gave Caulry a promising start, adding a free. But that was as good as it got for our lads as our only other score of the game came from the boot of Adam Donoghue and it was sandwiched between high tallies for the men in green and yellow. Ultimately, St. Joseph’s played the better football of the hour and ran out comfortable winners.
Team & Scorers: Conor Hynes, Ciaran Allen, Sean O’Neill, Darren Hynds, Sylvester Coughlan, Will Buckley, Oisin Shortall, Alan Lynam, Rory Mullins, Paul Hogan, Adam Donoghue (0-1), Ben Kenny (0-1), Nicky Killane, Declan Donohoe, Liam Malynn (0-3, 3f)
Subs: Liam Doyle for Ben Kenny, Pat Buckley for Rory Mullins, Ben Kenny for Alan Lynam
Division 2 ACFL
Caulry 2-8
Milltownpass 4-19
Our seniors kicked off their Division 2 ACFL campaign on Sunday morning last when they made the journey to Milltownpass.
An early chance for Caulry went wide before the homeside got motoring with two points, one from play and one free. The ball was overturned in our forward-line and this set up another scoring chance for the men in black and white on the 6th minute. Milltownpass’ tally was risen to five points before our lads got going: Alan Malynn converting a free after eleven minutes had elapsed. Damien Dolan then put his name on the scoresheet, but it was the homeside who finished the half stronger as a number of unanswered scores left Caulry trailing 2-9 to 0-2 at the interval.
The Milltownpass forwards continued to impress early in the second half as they scored goals and points from all angles. However, the opposite was true as our lads struggled to find the posts with efforts from Oisin Shortall and Stephen Connolly going wide. Our lads got going a bit in the final quarter of the game. Two frees from Connolly cut back the deficit somewhat and the same man got lucky on the 49th minute with a goal. Luke Buckley added points either side of Milltownpass scores. Thomas Dunning then got a consolation goal just before the referee signalled for fulltime as ultimately, Milltownpass ran out worthy winners.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Olan Healy, Eoin Shortall, Sean Clinton, Neil Clinton, Eoghan Grennan, Sean Doyle, Sean Fox, Stephen Connolly (1-3, 2f), Ben Moran, Damien Dolan (0-2), Alan Malynn (0-1, 1f), Luke Buckley (0-2, 1f), Colin Murphy, Darren Browne

Division 4 ACFL
Caulry 1-13
Tyrrellspass 3-15
Our juniors were defeated in their third round of the Division 4 ACFL when they made the journey to Tyrrellspass last Saturday.
A foul on Oisín Shortall set Liam Malynn up for the opening score of the game on the 5th minute. Tyrrellspass followed suit with a converted-free moments later. Alan Daly showed well under the breaking ball and a good passage of play through Alan Lynam and Paul Hogan saw the later finish with a point. Adam Donoghue sent a dangerous ball into our forwards and Rory Mullins made the most of it, getting his fist to the ball to give our lads a four point cushion. However, this lead was halved when the homeside kicked two fine points from play on the 11th and 12th minutes. A free from Malynn momentarily stretched our lead once again, but the scoreline was soon turned on its head as the men in blue and navy tapped over four unanswered points. Points from Malynn and Sean Murphy edged our lads in front. Mullins was then unlucky as his goal attempt was stopped by a Tyrrellspass defender on the 25th minute. The sides shared a point each before the interval to leave Caulry marginally in front.
This scoreline was reversed in the homeside’s favour as they accounted for the opening two points of the second half. Donoghue added one for us, but this was followed in similar fashion for Tyrrellspass. The opposition were then awarded a penalty on the 37th minute, which they dutifully converted to take a lead they would not relinquish. Tyrrellpass’ second goal of the game came at the end of the third quarter, with scores from Malynn and Shortall either side of it. The homeside began to take charge and came upon scores easier than Caulry, adding 0-4 to our 0-2. The Caulry forwards had a few chances late in the game, but none of these paid dividends as the homeside rounded off their win with a goal deep into injury time.
Team & Scorers: Conor Hynes, Ciaran Allen, Johnny Buckley, Keith McMenamin, Alan Daly (0-1), Sean Murphy (0-1), Brendan McCormack, Alan Lynam, Rory Mullins (1-0), Ben Kenny, Adam Donoghue (0-2), Oisín Shortall (0-1), Paul Hogan (0-1), Nicky Killane, Liam Malynn (0-7, 6f)
Subs: Peter Smyth for Ben Kenny, Olan Healy for Paul Hogan, Adam Mullins for Ciaran Allen, Robbie Hickey for Nicky Killane
Division 2 ACFL
Caulry 0-9
Ballymore 1-17
Our seniors’ game followed in the same vein on the following Sunday morning in which a competitive first half preceded a lacklustre second half from a Caulry perspective.
Ballymore got going with two points inside the opening three minutes. Thomas Dunning’s effort rattled back off an upright before Luke Buckley kicked our first score of the game. Buckley then had it level pegging with his second of the game. Ballymore edged in front once again, but Buckley repeated with an equaliser from a free. Harry Stuart Trainor gave the ball off to Dunning on the 12th minute who pointed to put our lads in front for the first time. Our defence done well to crowd out a Ballymore attack but our next effort at the other end of the field fell wide of its target. Cillian Nagle brought off a good save on the 17th minute as the homeside settled for a point. The game continued on a tit-for-tat basis before Ballymore snook the lead at the end of the first half to lead 0-8 to 0-7.
The homeside were first out of the tracks again in the second half with a point from play. Buckley was sensible up front as his fisted over a point for Caulry to reduce the deficit. The homeside began to dominate our kickout as they added two points before a fumble in front of our goal allowed them to snatch a three-pointer and a five-point lead on the 36th minute. Damien Dolan kicked our second score of the half, which materialised to be our last score of the game, as the Ballymore men took control of the game and ran out comfortable winners.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Olan Healy, Eoin Shortall, Tadgh Baker, Harry Stuart Trainor, Damien Dolan (0-1), Neil Clinton, Stephen Connolly, Sean Clinton, Shane Lawless, Luke Buckley (0-6, 4f), Darren Browne, Colin Murphy, Thomas Dunning (0-2), Alan Malynn

Division 2 ACFL
Caulry 0-11
Milltown 0-8
Our seniors picked up their first brace of points when they made the journey to Milltown on a wet and miserable St. Patrick’s afternoon last for their fourth league game.
The homeside were first to get going, converting a free early on before Luke Buckley done the same for Caulry after Alan Malynn was fouled on the 8th minute. Milltown added another placed-ball score before getting their first point from play after winning our kickout. Another free from Buckley kept the scoreboard ticking over as the rain made the playing conditions difficult. The homeside added another two points before Shane Lawless registered our opening point from play on the 19th minute. The opposition worked the ball well from a quickly taken free and finished with a point before Buckley reduced the deficit back to two as the team retreated to the dressing rooms for halftime.
A different second half was in store, much to the benefit of Caulry as the homeside only mustered up two scores during the 30 minute period. Buckley kicked a superb long-distance point inside the opening 60 seconds of the half and after some missed Caulry chances, Stephen Connolly managed to find his scoring boots to level the game. Oisín Shortall was a good introduction to the game as he got stuck in and set up Caulry attacks, one of which materialised in a chance for Malynn to pop over a free. Eoin Shortall diffused a Milltown advance as the ball was worked up the field and finished over the bar by Colin Murphy. Malynn had stretched our lead to three before the men in green and white added their first of the half. However, our lads had a bit of momentum built by this point as Malynn and Murphy responded well with a score each. The homeside finished the scoring with a point on the 59th minute, but ultimately our lads had done enough to take home the win.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Olan Healy, Eoin Shortall, Alan Lynam, Neil Clinton, Damien Dolan, Sean Clinton, Sean Doyle, Stephen Connolly (0-1), Shane Lawless (0-1), Luke Buckley (0-4, 2f), Darren Browne, Thomas Dunning, Alan Malynn (0-3, 3f), Colin Murphy (0-2)
Subs: Oisín Shortall for Shane Lawless, Adam Donoghue for Luke Buckley, Rory Mullins for Darren Browne, Sean Fox for Thomas Dunning
Division 4 ACFL
Caulry 3-15
Milltownpass 2-6
Our Juniors picked up their second win in Division 4 with a comprehensive Victory away to Milltownpass.
After a sluggish first 10 minutes Caulry got the first score of the half with a goal from Willie Buckley.
Moments later Liam Malynn scored our second goal to put us in a good position. Caulry at this stage were on top even though there was a lot of errors by both sides. The hosts scored two pointed-frees before Rory Mullins kicked over a long-range point. Milltownpass then raised the green flag before Caulry kicked four unanswered points. Playing with a strong wind Caulry looked to kick on, but a mistake in our defence allowed Milltownpass score another goal.
Caulry regrouped and scored two nice points from Alan Daly and Olan Healy to lead 2-7 to 2-2 at the interval.
On the resumption of play Liam Malynn kicked a lovely free against a strong wind. Caulry were now in control and looked like a team determined to kick on. Points were swapped between the teams before Darren Hynds broke up the field and scored a lovely team goal. At this stage Caulry led 3-9 to 2-5. In the remaining 15 minutes, Caulry outscored their opponents by 0-6 to 0-1.
A very pleasing performance by our Lads and they will be happy win the win. A solid defensive performance in the second half coupled with the quick counter attack was impressive.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton, Darren Hynds (1-0), Johnny Buckley, Ciaran Allen, Olan Healy (0-2), Eoin Shortall, Glenn Carolan (0-1), Alan Lynam, Alan Fitzpatrick (0-1), Oisín Shortall (0-2), Rory Mullins (0-3, 1m), Alan Daly (0-1), Liam Malynn (1-1, 1f), Will Buckley (1-0), Adam Donoghue (0-2)

Division 4 ACFL
Caulry 0-13
Rosemount 2-9
Our juniors were defeated on Bank Holiday Monday last afternoon when they made the journey to Rosemount for Round 6 of the Division 4 ACFL.
Liam Malynn opened the scoring account with a free on the 3rd minute. Rosemount drew level a short time later with a point from play. Caulry had a goal opportunity on the 10th minute after a brilliant drive forward from Tadgh Baker but the ball was kicked wide of its target. The following kickout set the homeside up for an attack, which culminated in a pointed-mark on the 12th minute. Sean Murphy levelled the sides with his effort soon after. Rosemount were unlucky to miss a goal chance of their own after a good move at the end of the first quarter. The game continued on a tit for tat basis as scores from Malynn, Alan Daly and Alan Fitzpatrick were cancelled out at the other end of the field. The homeside struck lucky in the last minute of play where they rattled the back of the Caulry net before retreating to the sideline for half-time with a three-point cushion.
Our net-minder was again put under pressure from the offset of the second half, but this time Ruiari Casey did enough to rule out the threat. Alan Fitzpatrick and Oisín Shortall added scores in quick succession to reduce the gap to one. However, the men in black and amber kept Caulry at a touching distance, tapping over the next point from a free. Similar to the first half, the game continued on a stop-start basis with scores from Baker and Malynn punctuating the play. Having worked a draw, Caulry got the chance to go ahead as the final quarter approached, but this effort from Alan Lynam dropped short. This seemed to get Rosemount going once again, as they were responsible for the next trio of points (the last of which could have been a goal had it not rebounded off the cross-bar). Chasing the three-point deficit going into the final few minutes of the game, our hopes for a result looked bleak. However, Shortall and Malynn showed great composure to take their scores and by the 58th minute, it was level-pegging once again. With pressure on, every action was important and any wrong move would be game changing, and so it was when a Rosemount forward pulled on a loose ball and hit the back of our net. Malynn the tapped over the last score of the game from a free, but Rosemount had done enough to take the win.
Team & Scorers: Ruiari Casey, Ciaran Allen, Eoin Shortall, Darren Hynds, Harry Stuart Trainor, Tadgh Baker (0-1), Olan Healy, Alan Fitzpatrick (0-2), Alan Lynam, Alan Daly (0-1), Oisín Shortall (0-2), Sean Murphy (0-1), Adam Donoghue, Ben Kenny, Liam Malynn (0-6, 3f, 1 ‘45’)

U17 League
Caulry 1-8
Tubberclair 5-9
Our U17s were defeated by a strong Tubberclair side in their latest league fixture.
The visitors to the park burst out of the tracks and had an impressive tally of 3-1 notched up before our lads got going. It was Aaron Murphy who kicked our first score of the game 25 minutes in. Lee Corcoran followed with a free minutes later. Simon O’Grady then gave Caulry a more respectable looking score when he riffled the back of the Tubberclair net after combining with Corcoran. The last score of the half came from the boot of Dean Martin as this saw Caulry trail 3-1 to 1-3 at the break.
Both sides exchanged a wide early in the second half before Tubberclair reopened the scoring account with a point on the 32nd minute. Our lads were responsible for the next four scoring chances, only two of which we managed to convert. These from Martin, a pointed-mark and Corcoran, a pointed-free. Another Corcoran free was sandwiched between similar scores for the Tubberclair lads. The visitors were much more clinical up front, adding 2-4 to our 0-2 in the closing minutes of the game to run out comfortable winners.
Team & Scorers: John Paul, Dara Shortall, Kyle Byrne, Sean Donnelly, Eoin McCormack, Cormac Murphy, David Gaynor, Aaron Murphy (0-1, 1f), Lee Corcoran (0-4, 4f), Dean Martin (0-2, 1m), Dean Burns, Brian Doyle, Rory Hatton, Max O’Sullivan, Simon O’Grady (1-0)

Division 2 ACFL
Caulry 0-14
Tubberclair 0-12
Caulry and Tubberclair served up an entertaining battle on Saturday evening last when the sides met for their latest Division 2 ACFL fixture.
The sides were on par with one another early on, exchanging similar scores. Tubberclair opened the scoring account with a pointed-free, before Conor McCormack levelled the game in similar fashion on the 3rd minute. The Tubberclair centre-half forward then added a point from play, before our no. 11 added his second of the game. Our lads applied pressure on the short Tubberclair kickout and this set Colin Murphy up for a point on the 8th minute. Scores from Shane Lawless and Oisín Shortall had tripled our lead by the 12th minute. Our lads had a chance to extend this lead, but failed to do so as a passage of direct play enabled the homeside to draw one back. Similar to the opening minutes of the game, the teams matched one another for scores. A Tubberclair free was cancelled out at the other end of the field by McCormack, before Tiarnán O’Donovan’s score from play was negated after the opposition worked the ball from a free. However, Lawless managed to reinstate our three-point lead late in the half as he kicked scores either side of the homeside’s last point to see the scoreboard read 0-9 to 0-6 at the break.
Tubberclair burst out of the tracks in the second half, kicking two scores to reduce the gap to one. A trio of chances went astray for Caulry as our opening point of the half came from a McCormack free on the 37th minute. Both sides were guilty of missing scores during the following minutes. A point from Murphy preceded a couplet of Tubberclair points to give our lads a one-point lead heading into the final quarter. Scores at this point in the game were slow to come by as the tally of wides for either side grew. Cillian Nagle done well when put under pressure on the 50th minute. McCormack, who was involved in a lot of play throughout, fielded the ball well as he set Murphy up for a score on the 55th minute. Tubberclair kept in touching distance with another free, but the Caulry lads dug deep as scores from Damien Dolan and Murphy ensured our lads ran out winners with two points to spare.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Olan Healy, Tom Cloonan, Eoin Shortall, Tadgh Baker, Damien Dolan (0-1), Harry Stuart Trainor, Sean Murphy, Sean Fox, Tiarnán O’Donovan (0-1), Conor McCormack (0-4, 3f), Shane Lawless (0-3), Oisín Shortall (0-1), Colin Murphy (0-4), Alan Malynn

Division 4 ACFL
Caulry 1-12
The Downs 1-10
Our juniors overcame The Downs in the closing stages of their Round 7 Division 4 ACFL game on Sunday morning last in the park.
Both sides were slow to settle, missing numerous chances. The Downs then got the opening score on the 4th minute, but this was followed almost immediately by a point from Liam Malynn at the other end of the field. Despite having a lot of the possession, our lads failed to push on only adding only two points from the boots of Mark Fitzpatrick and Paul Hogan. The Downs sent a dangerous ball in towards the Caulry goal on the 12th minute. Harry Hughes done well to diffuse this threat, knocking the ball out for a ‘45’ which enabled the opposition to draw one back. Hughes then got a score of this own on the 15th minute. However, this was closely followed by two unanswered points for the men in black and amber to level the game. A good passage of play through Paul Hogan and Shane Lawless was finished over the bar by Brian Carroll. Once again, the opposition sauntered down the field and tapped over the equaliser. The game continued on this tit-for-tat basis with The Downs closely following every Caulry move. Scores from Malynn and Hughes eventually widened the gap to two. But, no sooner had this two-point extension happened when the scoreline was completely overturned as The Downs raced straight down the field and riffled the back of the Caulry net. Paul Hogan added the last score of the half to level the game at the interval.
A very different second half was in store as The Downs dominated much of the play and accounted for all the scores for the majority of the half. They began by edging in front on the 33rd minute with a point from play. Ciaran Allen and Ruiari Casey brought off a double save on the 45th minute as the visitors worked the ball for a score from the resulting ‘45’. The Downs had extended their lead to four by the time our lads got motoring. The Caulry forwards waited until the final 10 minutes to get going, but when they did, they done so in style. Two frees from Liam Malynn reduced the gap to two going into stoppage time. Pressure was on as Caulry sent ball after ball into the forward-line but to no avail. Eventually substitute Conor Hynes struck lucky when was on the receiving end of a pass from Hughes and he booted the ball over the bar to reduce the gap to one. Our lads pounced on the following kickout and Malynn launched a dangerous ball into our full forward line. A fouled was committed and a penalty was awarded. Malynn took to the stage and he riffled the ball in low and left to edge Caulry in front just in the nick of time as the ref signalled for fulltime.
Team & Scorers: Ruiari Casey, Ciaran Allen, Darren Hynds, Brendan McCormack, Alan Daly, Neil Clinton, Harry Hughes (0-2), Alan Fitzpatrick, Brian Carroll (0-1), Will Buckley, Shane Lawless, Nicky Killane, Paul Hogan (0-2), Mark Fitzpatrick (0-1), Liam Malynn (1-5, 3f)
Subs: Hugh Allen for Shane Lawless, Oisín Shortall for Will Buckley, Conor Hynes (0-1) for Nicky Killane

U15 League Final
Caulry 4-8
St. Loman’s 5-16
Our U15s put up a good performance when they made the journey to contest their League Final in Lakepoint Park on Tuesday evening last.
The homeside were first off the mark with a point inside the opening 60 seconds. Sam Hatton was unlucky when his goal attempt was blocked down as this set the opposition up for another attack, which they finished over the bar. Hatton got lucky his second time of asking when he riffled the ball to the back of the St. Loman’s net on the 12th minute. However, our lead was short-lived as the Mullingar boys launched a quick blitz of scores, yielding 2-2. Gavin McSharry put his name on the scoresheet after combining nicely with Darragh Martin. St. Loman’s drew this one back, but the Caulry lads had some fuel left in the tank as they finished the half with an unanswered 0-5. McSharry popped over his second before Ciaran Dunning pointed on the 23rd minute. Aaron Buckley then kicked points either side of a point from Hatton to reduce the gap to two at the break.
However, the contest was put to bed early in the second half when the homeside launched a tirade of scores. They outscored our lads 1-9 to 0-1 in the opening stages of the half. Despite this, the Caulry lads never gave up. John Paul was a fine example of leadership when he burst down the field from his own goal-line and set Martin up for a three-pointer on the 47th minute. This endeavour somewhat inspired a comeback as moments later Martin found the net again, this time due to good work from Darragh Belton. St. Loman’s dented our progress with their fourth goal of the game on the 50th minute. Before the end of the game, two more goals were shared, with Rhys Mason adding one for Caulry. A late trio of points ensured St. Loman’s ran out winners and crowned league champions.
Team & Scorers: John Paul, Rhys Mason (1-0), Gavin Quilty, Matthew Allen, Luke Berry, John McDermott, Fionn Murphy, Gavin McSharry (0-3), Tristan Dolan, Kevin O’Brien, Euan Kelly, Ciaran Dunning (0-1), Sam Hatton (1-1), Aaron Buckley (0-2), Darragh Martin (2-1)
Division 4 ACFL
Caulry 4-10
St. Loman’s 1-11
Our juniors wrapped up their Division 4 ACFL campaign with a win over St. Loman’s on Tuesday evening last.
The homeside were first to get motoring, adding two points early on. Liam Malynn then kicked our opening point of the game after eight minutes. Darren Hynds set up an attack deep from within the Caulry defence as Harry Hughes worked the ball in and found Darren Browne who hit the back of the Mullingar net. Further points from Browne and Neil Clinton had Caulry four points the good by the 14th minute. St. Loman’s found a pocket in our defence and had the margins reduced to one after a well-taken goal. Caulry responded well when Malynn tapped over a point. Despite the opening flurry of scores, the second quarter slowed in pace, with just four scores being added. Three of these were in favour of St. Loman’s. However, Malynn added the equaliser to leave the game all-square at the interval.
The teams traded points early in the second half with Malynn pointing from a free. Olan Healy sent a dangerous ball in towards the St. Loman’s net and Browne once again proved his worth, getting a vital touch to help the ball into the back of the net. The opposition drew one back with a converted-free on the 37th minute. However, Caulry were on a roll and added an unanswered 1-2 within the following three minutes. Sean Murphy and Malynn both added points before a touch from Tadgh Baker helped the ball into the back of the St. Lomans’ net. The homeside were given a lifeline on the 43rd minute in the form of a penalty, which luckily for Caulry was mis-kicked and fired over the bar. Conor Hynes then brought off a great save a couple of minutes later and this was surely a sign of the Mullingar men’s fate. Malynn cancelled out two points for the homeside to keep our lead intact. Browne then got his hattrick on the 58th minute after a good intercept from Clinton was worked up the field via Adam Donoghue. St. Loman’s kicked the last score of the game, but ultimately our lads had done enough to run out winners.
Team & Scorers: Conor Hynes, Ciaran Allen, Johnny Buckly, Darren Hynds, Harry Stuart Trainor, Tadgh Baker (1-0), Neil Clinton (0-1), Alan Fitzpatrick, Sean Murphy (0-1), Olan Healy, Tiarnán O’Donovan, Harry Hughes, Oisín Shortall, Darren Browne (3-1), Liam Malynn (0-7, 2f)

Division 2 ACFL
Caulry 1-12
St. Mary’s Rochfortbridge 1-12
Caulry and St. Mary’s served up an entertaining hour of football in the park on a sunny Sunday morning last.
Two Caulry chances went wide before the first score of the game was kicked, this in favour of St. Mary’s on the 4th minute. Our lads then got going in style when Sean Fox fielded the ball well and set Aaron Roarke up for a goal to launch Caulry into a two-point lead. St. Mary’s reduced the margins back to one on the 6th minute. Thomas Dunning combined nicely with Tiarnán O’Donovan and finished with a point. Every move we made was closely followed by the opposition as the sides were all-square four times during the half with Alan Malynn, O’Donovan and Dunning adding our scores. The visitors to the park then took over in the closing minutes of the half, scoring an unanswered 1-4. Firstly, they tapped over two points before pouncing on a wayward short kickout and rattling the back of the net on the 24th minute. This move preceded another duo of points, one of which was tapped over by their own goalkeeper who spent a lot of the half outfield. Malynn reduced the gap back to five with his pointed-free just before the break.
The tables turned in the second half with our lads accounting for all of the scores bar two. Early points from Colin Murphy, O’Donovan, Dunning and Malynn chipped away at the deficit as O’Donovan popped over the equaliser on the 48th minutes thanks to a good catch from Tadgh Baker at midfield. Murphy then edged our lads in front. Jack Connaughton brought off a good save on the 56th minute as the opposition had to wait until the 57th minute for their opening score of the half, this coming from their goalie who was now wearing no. 16 on his back. As fulltime loomed, St. Mary’s managed to sneak in front with a point from play. Our lads dug deep and were patient in attack. Roarke and Adam Donoghue put pressure on the St. Mary’s defence as the ball got loose and Baker used this to his advantage as he settled for a point, just in the nick of time as the referee signalled fulltime.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Darren Hynds, Eoin Shortall, Dylan Lowry, Tadgh Baker (0-1), Damien Dolan, Olan Healy, Sean Fox, Neil Clinton, Oisín Shortall, Alan Malynn (0-3, 3f), Colin Murphy (0-2), Thomas Dunning (0-3), Aaron Roarke, Tiarnán O’Donovan (0-3)

Lord of the Mount Fundraiser
After months of hard work and determination, our Lord of the Mount Fundraiser came to an end in Egan’s Marquee on Saturday night last.
Ollie Baker kicked off proceedings by welcoming the good-sized crowd. He mentioned that although this particular fundraiser only began 6 months ago, the initial development of our facilities started back in 2014 with the buying and development of our new all-weather pitch and walking track. Through the huge success of our Strictly Come Dancing and Sponsor a Sod campaigns, we developed our facilities which are the envy of many clubs. However, more recently attention has turned to how we can cater for our ever-increasing numbers and thus, through the great vision and guile of our Development Committee, the Lord of the Mount Fundraiser was reborn. Ollie gave a brief run down on the history of this tradition in our locality. Dating back to 1981, the campaign rose funds for 4 beneficiaries including our club and after months of hard work, Jay Egan was crowned the first Lord of the Mount.
Ollie then introduced our 3 candidates: John G Buckley, Mark ‘Molly’ Malone and Richie Higgins. He expressed gratitude to the 3 lads and stated how the club will forever be extremely in debt to them for their Trojan efforts over the past few months. Ollie finished by commended the campaign, expressing the sense of pride of place and community that has been felt throughout it.
The draw for our corporate sponsors then took place with Sheila Allen drawing out McSharry’s Pharmacy as the lucky winners of 2 All Ireland Tickets.
An auction in aid of Mount Temple Community Hall took place next with John G taking to the floor as master auctioneer. This facility is of as much value as anything that happens in our club grounds. It is a cherished part of the community and thanks to the generosity of all those on the night, we managed to raise €6,330. Thank you to everyone who supported.
Finally, it was time for the 3 Wise Men to have their glory. Entering the Marquee like boxers entering the ring, it was a spectacle enjoyed by all.
First up was John G who mentioned his highlight being his hard-working team and the endless generosity of people near and far.
Next up was ‘The Chairman’ Richie Higgins. He spoke about the need of new facilities to cater for our players from U5 up to senior as the driving force for his involvement. His highlight was Foster & Allen’s show in aid of the development and expressed sincere gratitude to all involved on the night.
Last, but by no means least was Mark ‘Molly’ Malone. Molly mentioned how, when asked he had no doubts about being involved. He paid tribute to his tough competition and thanked everyone for their support, particularly everyone on his fundraising team. Behind everyone good leader is a good team was very much the sentiment to his words.
Before the grand total was announced, it was our Club Development Officer Kevin Connaughton’s turn to speak. Kevin was delighted to welcome the big turnout to bring our Lord of the Mount Fundraiser to a close. He expressed sincere gratitude to his Development Committee members, Damien Dolan, Padraig Killane, Colin White and Ronan Carroll for their work over the past 6 months. He expressed further thanks to Damien and Joe Roarke for the important role they played, to Start Solar for supporting the cost of our draw and to Grennan’s for supplying the fertiliser. Kevin also thanked Pallas marketing for all their help. He also mentioned Tom Daly for his organising of the mock wedding and to those involved. Other expressions of gratitude included the hall committee, Egan’s pub, local businesses and of course the local houses and families for their incredible generosity. Kevin was delighted to announce we have recently been granted planning permission and can look forward to work on our new clubhouse starting in the near future. To finish, Kevin paid a special tribute to the 3 candidates as without them, there would be no fundraiser. The lads put in a tremendous effort and had plenty of craic along the way. He mentioned that it was never about winning and that they will always be remembered for what they have done for our club. Damien then made a special presentation to John, Richie and Mark as a memento of their involvement.
Without further ado, the three candidates revealed the grand total of their fundraising efforts. An incredible €138,849 was raised for the new development of our club grounds. We express sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed in anyway. Without your support, we wouldn’t be in the position to further develop our facilities and we cannot wait until the day that we can cut the ribbon and welcome all in to see what we have achieved together as a club.
After a lot of anticipation, the winner of the Lord of the Mount was revealed. Despite a close battle, John G Buckley was crowned Lord of the Mount. Former Lord Jay presented John with his chain to rapturous applause. John once again thanked all for their support and generosity. He reiterated Kevin’s words in that it wasn’t about winning or losing. He finished by saying there was one winner: our club.
The night was topped off by music from Streetwise and it brings an end to what is sure to be a very memorable fundraising campaign.

Junior B Championship Round 1
Caulry 1-14
Bunbrosna 3-21
Our juniors made the journey to Bunbrosna on Tuesday evening last for their opening game of the Junior B Championship.
The sides looked evenly matched in the opening minutes of the game with Mark Fitzpatrick cancelling out the homeside’s initial score. However, it wasn’t long before the Bunbrosna men put their stamp on the game. They added two points before firing home their opening goal of the game on the 10th minute. The homeside dominated the kickout and were more clinical up front adding another duo of points before Caulry launched their next attack. This came from Adam Donoghue, but after the ball fell short of its target, Bunbrosna built from deep and finished with a point at the other end of the field. The homeside had raised their tally to 2-10 before our next score of the game. This came from an error in the Bun defence which saw an own-goal being awarded after a long ball in from Donoghue. Liam Malynn then drew another point back with his free after a foul was committed on Andy O’Sullivan. However, our progress was futile as the opposition responded with 1-2 in quick succession. Malynn reduced the gap by one again before the interval, but as the teams retreated to the dug-outs, Bunbrosna lead 3-12 to 1-3.
Our lads put on a better display in the second half as Sean O’Neill added a point after combining nicely with Olan Healy. Bunbrosna drew this one back before Hugh Allen added a score on the 32nd minute. Malynn’s third point of the game was sandwiched between a quadruplet on Bunbrosna scores. Caulry began to patch together some better play with points from Donoghue, Nicky Killane and Malynn before the final quarter. In the closing minutes of the half, this patterned continued with Caulry outscoring Bunbrosna 0-5 to 0-3. Four of these were courtesy of Malynn frees and Donoghue added a nice score from play. Ultimately, the homeside had done enough and ran out comfortable winners.

Junior B Championship
Caulry 2-16
St. Josephs 1-5
Our juniors registered their first win of the Junior B Championship when they hosted St. Josephs in the park on Tuesday evening last.
The opposition tagged on an early point before a free from Liam Malynn levelled the game. Brian then Carroll pulled on a loose ball on the 3rd minute and riffled the back of the St. Joseph’s net to launch our lads in front. Shane Lawless took his scores well as he kicked points either side of the visitor’s second score of the game. Ruiari Casey denied the St. Joseph’s twice within in the space of a minute as our lads were more clinical up front. Carroll, Mark Fitzpatrick, Alan Lynamand Ben Kenny all added points before a late goal from Darren Browne gave our lads a comfortable lead of 2-8 to 0-2 at the break.
The opposition started the second half on a more positive note with two points from play. However, these were soon cancelled out at the other end of the field courtesy of scores from Brendan McCormack and Lawless. The sides then exchanged scores from placed-balls with Malynn tapping over a ‘45’. Browne added a point on the 45th minute. However, Caulry let their guard slip as the resulting kickout was worked down the field and palmed into the back of the net. Malynn was on fire in the closing minutes of the half, kicking four scores, all different angles, two of which were outside the ‘45’ as our lads ran out easy winners on a scoreline of 2-16 to 1-5.
Team & Scorers: Ruiari Casey, Ciaran Allen, Nicky Killane, Adam Mullins, Alan Lynam (0-1), Sean O’Neill, Brendan McCormack (0-1), Brian Carroll (1-1), Shane Lawless (0-3), Ben Kenny (0-1), Adam Donoghue, Will Buckley, Darren Browne (1-1), Mark Fitzpatrick (0-2), Liam Malynn (0-6, 3f, 1 ‘45’)

J2FC Round 1
Caulry 1-6
Rosemount 2-17
Our juniors suffered a heavy defeat when they hosted Rosemount in the park on Friday evening last for their Round 1 championship clash.
The sides exchanged early points with Alan Daly getting his first score m for Caulry. Liam Malynn then sent a high ball into our forward line which Mark Fitzpatrick knocked down to Darren Browne as the later finished the move by sending the ball to the back of the Rosemount net. Despite this promising start, our lads failed to push on as the opposition took the lead with a quadruplet of points. Malynn drew one of these back with his effort on the 19th minute. But the visitors two-point advantage was restored before the interval as the scoreboard read 0-7 to 1-2 at halftime.
An early Rosemount point was subsequently cancelled out at the other end of the field with a free-kick from Liam Malynn in the opening stages of the second half. Ruiari Casey brought off a fine save on the 35th minute. However, the opposition wee phased as they went on to add and unanswered 1-3. Daly tried his best throughout the half as his two points were the only indentations to cut into the Rosemount lead between the 39th and 54th minutes. Adam Donoghue added the last score of the game as the opposition ran out easy winners.
Team & Scorers: Ruiari Casey, Ciaran Allen, Sean O’Neill, Adam Mullins, Alan Daly (0-1), Ben Moran, Brendan McCormack, Alan Lynam, Shane Lawless, Brian Carroll, Adam Donoghue (0-1), Nicky Killane, Darren Browne (1-0), Mark Fitzpatrick, Liam Malynn

SFC Round 1
Caulry 0-14
Coralstown/Kinnegad 4-6
Our seniors came up short against Coralstown/Kinnegad in Cusack Park on Saturday evening last when they played their opening game of this year’s SFC.
Coralstown/Kinnegad were first off the mark with a converted-free after one minute. Caulry were then unlucky moments later in what was probably of foresight of the result when Kevin Maguire shot low and wide of the goal after good fielding from our no. 8 and no. 9. Our lads then had another chance to get on the scoreboard when Alan Malynn’s initial effort was knocked out for a ‘45’, but this effort also fell wayward. Coralstown/Kinnegad then built from the kickout with their no. 11 and no. 14 combining before the full forward finished with a goal to launch them into a four-point lead. Senan Baker opened our scoring tally on the 9th minute with a converted-free. However, Coralstown/Kinnegad has their tails up and a dangerous dropping ball in somehow or another found its way into the back of our net, leaving our lads chasing a six-point deficit. Baker added another duo of frees on the 13th and 14th minutes, before the opposition added another point from play. Maguire and Aaron Roarke had chances to add scores in the following minutes, but were unable to do so as the men in white and red did similar up their end of the field. Roarke eventually popped over the next score of the game on the 25th minute after nice-combined teamwork from Maguire and Tiarnán O’Donovan. However, in likewise fashion to before, the opposition raced down the field and delivered goal no. 3. The sides then shared points before the break to leave Caulry trailing 3-3 to 0-5.
Malynn was fouled in the opening stages on the second half which enabled Baker to tag on another pointed-free. Two scores from placed balls for the Coralstown/Kinnegad lads preceded our next point of the game, again from the boot of Baker. Stephen Connolly pounced on the opposition’s kickout and sent the ball in to Thomas Dunning who added one from play. But once again, Coralstown/Kinnegad burst down the field and finished with a goal. The closing twenty minutes of the game lacked championship intensity as only a trio of scoring chances were converted. Coralstown/Kinnegad added the first of these on the 44th minute. Paddy Sleator then kicked a point on the 47th minute after good play from Maguire who impressed throughout. The final score of the game came in the form of a Baker free as Coralstown/Kinnegad ran out winners with eight points to spare.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Harry Stuart Trainor, Tom Cloonan, Dylan Lowry, Kevin Maguire, Eoghan Grennan, Tadgh Baker, Sean Fox, Stephen Connolly, Tiarnán O’Donovan, Colin Murphy, Senan Baker (0-6, 6f), Paddy Sleator (0-1), Aaron Roarke (0-2), Alan Malynn

Our U19s hit the ground running when they got a win over Tubberclair on Thursday evening last in their opening round of this year’s championship.
Our lads burst out of the tacks and had 2-1 racked up before Tubberclair got off the mark. Aaron Murphy kicked the opening point of the game before Tiarnán O’Donovan hit the back of the net after his shot for a point fell short to our advantage on the 3rd minute. Cormac Murphy then struck for goal a couple of minutes later after making a burst up the field from our defence. The homeside opened their scoring account on the 9th minute, which broke our momentum as they added two points from play. Tadgh Baker’s point preceded Tubberclair’s goal when they ran the length of the field and reduced the gap to three. The game continued on a tit-for-tat basis with O’Donovan’s and Murphy’s scores being cancelled out at the other end of the field. A late point from Oisín Shortall reinstated our four-point lead at the interval.
The sides were evenly-matched throughout the second half, sharing ten points during the 30 minutes. Five of these were kicked in each quarter. The homeside added a trio of points to our two prior to the 45th minute, with Paul Hogan and Shortall on target for Caulry. Murphy, Hogan and O’Donovan kicked three unanswered points to give our lads a six-point advantage heading into the last ten minutes of play. Credit must be given to our defence who put pressure on the Tubberclair attack, as they managed to sneak over just two points to ensure our lads ran out winners on the evening.

J2FC Round 2
Caulry 3-12
Loughnavalley 4-11
Caulry and Loughnavalley served up an entertaining encounter on Friday evening last when the sides met for this Round 2 clash on the J2FC in Kilbeggan.
The opposition hit the ground running as they opened the scoring account with 1-1 in quick succession. Two points from the boot of Liam Malynn reduced the gap to two by the 14th minute. A fabulous passing move through Olan Healy and Brendan McCormack saw Darren Browne deliver our first goal of the game. This was followed up by points from Malynn and Hugh Allen to overturn the scoreline and put Caulry three points the good. However, this lead was short-lived as Loughnavalley found a pocket in our defence and riffled the back of the net after taking a short free. The opposition then briefly took the lead with two quick scores. However, Browne had his say before the half-time whistle when he fired home another goal to give our lads a minimal lead at the break.
Two missed Caulry chances preceded the opening score of the second half. This coming in the form of a Loughnavalley goal after their forward got the better of Conor Hynes at the second time of asking. A point from Alan Lynam then steady the Caulry ship somewhat. The sides shared four points between the 38th and 42nd minutes with Alan Daly and Adam Donoghue on target for Caulry. Donoghue then struck lucky at the end of the third quarter as he rattled the back of the net to put our lads in front. Loughnavalley pointed a free moments later to keep in touching distance. The Caulry lads worked tirelessly throughout the game as they overturned the ball and Harry Hughes finished this move with a point. Despite this score, our lads failed to put Loughnavalley to bed as a couple of unanswered scores levelled the game going into the final ten minutes. During this period, both sides’ desire for a win was on show as they exchanged points on a tit-for-tat basis. However, Loughnavalley got the edge on the 59th minute when a free-kick dropped into the back of our net. They then followed up this goal with a point to widen the gap to four. Our lads dug deep in the closing minutes of the game but two points from Malynn proved worthless as the opposition took the win.
Team & Scorers: Conor Hynes, Sylvester Coughlan, Mark Fitzpatrick, Adam Mullins, Alan Daly (0-1), Luke Hamilton, Olan Healy, Harry Hughes (0-1), Alan Lynam (0-1), Brendan McCormack, Adam Donoghue (1-1), Ben Kenny, Hugh Allen (0-1), Darren Browne (2-0), Liam Malynn (0-6, 1 ‘45’, 3f)

SFC Round 2
Caulry 1-15
Tyrrellspass 1-12
Our seniors got their first championship win when they overcame a Tyrrellspass threat in Hogan Park on a sunny Saturday afternoon last.
For long spells of the opening half, Caulry were on the back foot, consistently levelling Tyrrellspass’ margin. The opposition kicked a fine point within 25 seconds of the throw-in to take an early lead before Senan Baker put Caulry’s first score on the scoreboard with a converted-free. Tyrrellpass managed to stretch their lead to two for the first and only time by the 8th minute. These scores came in the form of a pointed-free and point from play after the opposition made the most of a mis-pass in our attack. The game was levelled though for the second time courtesy of pointed-frees from Baker (on both occasions as a result of needless fouls). In customary fashion, the men in blue and navy went ahead again by one. But true to form, Caulry levelled the ball after Paddy Sleator found Damien Dolan who made no mistake in splitting the uprights. The teams traded another duo of scores with Tadgh Baker adding after a good sequence of play through Sleator, Tiarnán O’Donovan and Senan. Our lads then took the lead for the first time in the game on the 23rd minute when Baker rattled the back of the Tyrrellpass net after his initial effort was stopped. This proved to be the difference between the sides as although Tyrrellpass cut the deficit somewhat, our lads never let the lead slip completely. The opposition responded well with a point on the 26th minute, however Stephen Connolly sent over the final score of the half to reinstate our three-point advantage at the interval.
Caulry hit the ground running in the second half with Sleator stretching the lead to four. Tyrrellspass then got going with a converted-free after three minutes of play, but our tails were up as we accounted for the next three scores of the game. Baker worked wonders as he managed to get the better of three or four Tyrrellspass defenders and bisected the uprights on the 33rd minute. O’Donovan, who impressed throughout, then added a fine score from play before he pointed from a mark on the 40th minute. To credit Tyrrellspass, they kept their composure and a trio of points later had reduced the gap back to three heading into the final quarter. Tadgh Baker added his second score on the 54th minute. Jack Connaughton was then put under pressure as he managed to diffuse a lingering Tyrrellspass threat. Conor McCormack, who was a welcomed introduction from our bench, sent over a free from outside the ‘45’ on the 26th minute and a further score from Colin Murphy had the gap widened to six once again. However, Tyrrellpass were in control of their kickout and they used this to their advantage as the ball was worked down the field and into the back of the Caulry net. With pressure on, McCormack stood up as he sent over two fabulous points either side of Tyrrellspass’ scores to ensure Caulry ran out winners on the evening.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton, Eoin Shortall, Kevin Maguire, Dylan Lowry, Tadgh Baker (0-2), Damien Dolan (0-1), Sean Fox, Stephen Connolly (0-1), Sean Doyle, Ben Moran, Paddy Sleator (0-1), Sean Murphy, Tiarnán O’Donovan (0-2, 1m), Senan Baker (1-4, 3f), Aaron Roarke

U17 Championship
Caulry 0-5
Tubberclair 5-12
Our U17s suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Tubberclair in the park on Monday evening last.
Caulry got off to a positive start with Aaron Murphy and Dean Burns adding early points. However, this was as good as it got as Tubberclair began to take charge of proceedings. Two quick fire goals launched the visitors into the lead. Some wayward passing from the Caulry end enabled Tubberclair to add four unanswered points. Caulry had chances towards the end of the half but couldn’t take advantage of these as the opposition lead 4-5 to 0-2 at the break.
The second half followed in the same vein with our lads accounting for the first two points. These scores from the boots of Rory Hatton and Murphy. Cormac Murphy tried hard throughout as he sent a dangerous ball in across the square, but much to our dismay nothing came of this chance. The opposition drew two back by the 41st minute. Kyle Rainey then put his name on the scoreboard when he pulled on a loose ball, and this transpired to be our last score of the match. Ultimately, Tubberclair were the stronger side and ran out easy winners.
Team & Scorers: John Paul, Michael McSharry, Kyle Byrne, Darragh Shortall, Brian Doyle, Cormac Murphy, Cody Parker, Aaron Murphy (0-2, 2f), David Gaynor, Kyle Rainey (0-1), Lee Corcoran, Dean Burns (0-1), Simon O’Grady, Dean Martin, Rory Hatton (0-1)
U15 Championship
Caulry 4-9
Garrycastle 4-11
Our U15s served up an exciting battle against Garrycastle in the park on Wednesday evening last.
Garrycastle opened the scoring account with a point from play before Darragh Martin levelled proceedings after some good fielding from John McDermott. Martin then added another to edge Caulry in front. A quick-fire four points saw the scoreline overturned in Garrycastle’s favour. John Paul impressed throughout the game as he made a beeline up from his own goals and finished with a point on the 16th minute. The visitors added another duo of scores, however, McDermott fired home a goal on the 25th minute to bring Caulry right back into contention. With our tails up, Martin added a free before McDermott struck for his second goal to see our boys lead 2-4 to 0-7 at the break.
Our boys got off to an ideal start in the second half with Kevin O’Brien adding a goal and Ciaran Dunning added a point before the 35th minute. Garrycastle reduced the margins when they got their first goal of the match moments later. Euan Kelly’s and O’Brien’s points were cancelled out at the other end of the field as the opposition kept chomping at Caulry’s heels. Our boys then let their guard slip slightly and 1-2 later saw the game level pegging heading into the final quarter. Another free from Martin kept the scoreboard ticking over. John Paul then brought off a great save on the 53rd minute as the ball was worked up the field and into the back of the net by Darragh Belton. Martin then added another free and at this point, you would have thought Caulry were home and hosed. However, Garrycastle showed great composure as they battled to the bitter end, adding 2-1 to take the win on the evening.
Team: John Paul, Tom Madden, Gavin Quilty, Caelan O’Neill, Luke Berry, Fionn Murphy, Tristan Dolan, Rhys Mason, John McDermott, Matthew Allen, Darragh Martin, Ciaran Dunning, Marcus Grant, Euan Kelly, Kevin O’Brien
Subs: Darragh Belton
SFC Round 3
Caulry 0-11
Killucan 0-8
Our seniors picked up their second consecutive win of this year’s SFC when they play Killucan on a wet and miserable Saturday evening last.
Killucan won the throw-in but were unable to convert the ensuing chance as they registered their first wide of the game inside the opening 30 seconds. Senan Baker then opened the scoring account when he tapped over a free after a foul on Tiarnán O’Donovan. Killucan soon found their shooting boots as they kicked the next two scores of the game, one from a mark and one from a free. The margins were always going to be small in the sloppy conditions as the sides kept on one another’s toes with the one-point lead being overturned in our favour, courtesy of scores from Sean Murphy and Baker. A Killucan free drew level on the 15th minute. Paddy Sleator momentarily put Caulry back in the lead when his shot hit the crossbar and went over. But, in customary fashion, this scoreline was once again flipped as the opposition accounted for the next two points from play. The Caulry defence worked very hard throughout the game as interventions from Kevin Maguire and Tadgh Baker set Conor McCormack and Sleator up for points. The yellow bellies then added two points in as many minutes to lead marginally at the break on a scoreline of 0-7 to 0-6.
Similar to the first half, it was Baker who accounted for the opening score from a free. Both sides then missed some scoring chances before Killucan kicked what transpired to be their only score of the half on the 40th minute. Despite this, the game always seemed very tight as Baker sent over the equaliser from free on the 42nd minute. Both teams missed a smattering of scoring chances in the following minutes, which probably could be accredited to the poor conditions. Thankfully from a Caulry point of view, our lads were slightly more accurate up front as a fine point from McCormack put our noses ahead on the 51st minute. Killucan tagged on another wide moments later before chances from O’Donovan and Colin Murphy up our end of the field were missed. Killucan wides sandwiched our next score of the game. This coming from the boot of Baker after a fine catch from Stephen Connolly at midfield. McCormack then added the ultimate score of the game from a long-range free as Caulry welcomed the fulltime whistle and pick up their second brace of points.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton, Eoin Shortall, Kevin Maguire, Dylan Lowry, Tadgh Baker, Damien Dolan, Sean Fox, Stephen Connolly, Sean Doyle, Ben Moran, Paddy Sleator (0-1), Sean Murphy (0-2), Tiarnán O’Donovan, Senan Baker (0-5, 4f), Aaron Roarke

U19 Championship Round 2
Caulry 2-6
Moate 1-7
Caulry and Moate served up an entertaining battle in the park when the sides met for this second-round clash of the U19 championship on Tuesday evening last.
Our lads had some chances early on which we failed to convert before Aaron Murphy put the first score on the scoreboard with a pointed-free on the 6th minute. Moate followed suit in similar fashion at the other end of the field. The nerves of the local rivalry were on show in these early stages of the game as the sides shared four wides before Moate settled into proceedings. They done so when their no. 6 sent over a fine point on the 15th minute. This score was closely followed by two more Moate points to put them three points the good. Murphy done well on the 21st minute when he made the most of a dropping ball in from Oisín Shortall and he took his point. However, the opposition drew this back after working the ensuing kickout up the field. Caulry were unlucky in the closing stages of the half when Tiarnán O’Donovan sent in two very dangerous balls. But much to our dismay, Moate were more successful up front as they rattled the back of our net on the 28th minute. Murphy frees either side of this score saw Moate lead 1-5 to 0-4 at the break.
Moate were given an ideal start to the second half when they were awarded a duo of penalty chances, however, credit must be given to our net minder Conor Hynes who denied the opposition on both occasions. The second of these gave us a platform to work the ball up the field as Kyle Rainey riffled the back of the Moate net and brought Caulry right back into contention. With only the narrowest of margins now separating the sides, pressure began to show as once again the teams missed a number of scoring chances. Eventually Murphy sent over the equaliser at the end of the third-quarter after a fantastic burst up the field by Brendan McCormack. Moate, to their credit, responded well with a point before adding a converted-free on the 52nd minute. The opposition were on top at this point in the game, owning much of the possession. However, our backline withheld the Moate threat with Cormac Murphy impressing throughout. The ball was passed forward and back as the Moate forwards tried to make an angle to take a score and run down the clock. On the 56th minute a shot was taken, but fell wide of its target. This gave our lads a chance to build an attack as Cormac won the short kickout and drove up from our defence. The ball found its way into the awaiting hands of Tadgh Baker who made no mistake in finding the back of the net to marginally put Caulry in front. Our lads dug deep in the closing stages of the game as Paul Hogan kicked the last score on the 62nd minute to secure our lads the win.
Team & Scorers: Conor Hynes, David Gaynor, Cormac Murphy, Ben Claffey, Cody Parker, Harry Stuart Trainor, Brendan McCormack, Tadgh Baker (1-0), Alan Lynam, Oisín Shortall, Paul Hogan (0-1), Kyle Rainey (1-0), Max O’Sulivan, Tiarnán O’Donovan, Aaron Murphy (0-5, 4f)

Junior B Championship
Caulry 0-14
Tyrrellspass 0-12
Our juniors had a two-point win over Tyrrellspass when they hosted the men in blue and navy in the park on Tuesday evening last.
The sides were evenly matched in the opening stages of the game with Tyrrellspass matching our opening scores, these coming when Adam Donoghue popped over the first point from play before Olan Healy’s fisted effort on the 2nd minute. The opposition were more wasteful up front by times missing a point and goal opportunity as Liam Malynn accounted for the next two scores of the game to stretch our lead to three. This margin remained in tact at the halftime whistle. Although by the time the interval came, the scoreboard read 0-10 to 0-7 with Darren Browne and Malynn on target for Caulry.
Tyrrellspass had the deficit back to one as they started the second half well with two points from play. However, our lead was reinstated after scores from Browne and Shane Lawless on the 35th and 43rd minutes. A converted-free on the 46th minute for Tyrrellspass kept the scoreboard ticking over. Andy O’Sullivan then added the next point of the game after combining nicely with Paul Hogan. The visitors kept chomping at our heels and they managed to reduce the gap to a dangerous two point-lead when they added scores either side of a free from Malynn. Cillian Nagle was put under pressure late in the half when he brought off a fine save on the 56th minute and this move secured our two-point win.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Ciaran Allen, Johnny Buckley, Olan Healy (0-1), Alan Daly, Sean O’Neill, Will Buckley, Thomas Dunning, Ben Kenny, Brendan McCormack, Liam Malynn (0-6, 3f, 1 ‘45’), Paul Hogan, Andy O’Sullivan (0-1), Darren Browne (0-3), Adam Donoghue (0-2)

SFC Round 4
Caulry 0-10
St. Lomans 2-10
Our seniors were easily turned over in Cusack Park on Saturday evening last when they played last year’s beaten finalists in Round 4 of the SFC.
St. Lomans opened the scoring account on the 4th minute with a point from play. Kevin Maguire responded well with a point at the other end of the field within seconds. The Mullingar men accounted for the next four attacks, with just two of these paying dividends and stretching their lead to two. Aaron Roarke then cut this deficit with his point after he combined nicely with Alan Malynn. However, St. Lomans were back two points the good by the end of the first quarter. The opposition had two more chances of scores, one of these when a goal momentarily looked to be on the cards, but were unable to find the target before a dangerous ball across the goal-line from Malynn went wide at the other end of the field. Things went from bad to worse from a Caulry point of view from this point on as a trio of errors were finished over the bar by the men in blue and white, before two placed balls fell wide of their targets at our end of the field. Another breakdown in a Caulry attack then resulted in St. Lomans’ first goal of the game on the 24th minute. Now with their tails up, the opposition saw out the half strong and lead 1-10 to 0-2 at the break.
St. Lomans opened the second half with two points, one from play and one a free. Senan Baker drew one of these back on the 36th minute. Between the 37th and 44th minutes, the opposition outscored Caulry 0-4 to 0-1 with Paddy Sleator on target after some fine fielding from Stephen Connolly. Caulry got back-to-back scores then from the boots of Malynn (a mark) and Sleator (from play, again accredited to a catch at midfield by Connolly). St. Lomans’ next score came on the 49th minute. This was followed by a trio of Caulry scores from Tadgh Baker, Malynn and Senan. Points for St. Lomans kept the scoreboard ticking over going into the final stages of the game before Baker added our last score from a free. The opposition then rounded off their tally with 1-1 to ease past the Caulry threat.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Eoin Shortall, Kevin Maguire (0-1), Sean Fox, Harry Stuart Trainor, Damien Dolan, Sean Murphy, Conor McCormack, Stephen Connolly, Colin Murphy (0-1, 1f), Paddy Sleator (0-2), Oisín Shortall, Alan Malynn (0-2, 2m), Aaron Roarke (0-1), Olan Healy

J2FC Round 4
Caulry 5-8
Multyfarnham 0-13
Our juniors secured themselves a quarter-final spot when they overcame Multyfarnham on Monday last in Round 4 of the J2FC.
Our lads hit the ground running when Mark Fitzpatrick fired home a goal on the 2nd minute. Darren Browne followed this up with a point before Multyfarnham got off the mark at the other end of the field on the 4th minute. The opposition had another chance to score, but this trickled out wide and gave our lads the opportunity to build an attack. Ruiari Casey found Alan Lynam with the kickout and this move was finished with a point from Browne. Multyfarnham’s second score of them game then preceded a point from Adam Donoghue. The opposition drew two back on the 12th and 17th minutes. However, after Malynn’s three-pointer the gap between the sides was widened to five. Multyfarnham finished the first half’s scoring tally with two points to reduce the margins at the break.
In the same vein as the first half, our lads got off to a glorious start with Brendan McCormack causing hardship up front when he rattled off 1-1 in quick succession. Multyfarnham drew three points back by the 38th minute with a score from play and two converted-frees. The sides then shared four points, with Malynn and Browne on target for Caulry. The sides were evenly matched during patches of the second half as further points from McCormack and Malynn were cancelled out at the other end of the field. McCormack struck lucky once again on the 54th minute when he got the final touch to a ball in from Hugh Allen and sent it to the back of the Multyfarnham net. Fitzpatrick then kicked our fifth and final goal of the game to secure the win on a scoreline of 5-8 to 0-13.

Our seniors make the journey to Shandonagh on Sunday evening next for their ultimate round robin clash of this year’s SFC. The opposition will be provided by The Downs. There was very little to separate the sides when they last met in the 2022 championship as The Downs marginally prevailed on a scoreline of 1-13 to 2-9. All eyes will be on this game and the other Section A fixture as all eventualities are possible with a semi-final, quarter-final and drop-zone places all to be confirmed. Our lads will be undoubtably hungry for a win when they take to the field at 4pm. All supporters are asked to get behind the lads and tickets will be available during the week from links on our social media.
Our juniors also play their final group-stage game when they take on Delvin on the preceding Thursday evening at 7pm in Rochfortbridge. Likewise, they will be hoping for a win to keep up momentum for a quarter-final clash in the coming weeks.
The very best of luck to the team and managements.
U17 Championship
Caulry 1-5
Mullingar Shamrocks 5-13
Our U17s suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Mullingar Shamrocks when they took to the field in the park for this latest championship fixture.
Our lads made a promising start when Cormac Murphy pointed inside the opening 35 seconds. Mullingar Shamrocks matched this score up the opposite end of the field before Dean Burns’ pointed to marginally edge Caulry in front again. Aaron Murphy then stretched this lead to two with his converted-free after a foul on David Gaynor. However, this was as good as it got for Caulry as a trio of Mullingar points overturned the lead. Murphy levelled the tally from another placed-ball, but Mullingar Shamrocks finished the half with a tirade of attacks which yielded 1-4 before the halftime whistle.
It was the opposition who started the second half well, adding an unanswered 3-2. Kyle Rainey registered our first score of the half on the 46th minute when he rattled the back of the Mullingar net despite being surrounded by a strong defence. This goal failed to spur on a Caulry comeback as Mullingar Shamrocks responded with three points from play. Rory Hatton kicked the last Caulry point of the game on the 55th minute as the opposition ran out easy winners.
Team & Scores: John Paul, Michael McSharry, Kyle Byrne, Sean Donnelly, Dean Martin, Cormac Murphy (0-1), Cody Parker, Lee Corcoran, David Gaynor, Kyle Rainey (1-0), Rory Hatton (0-1), Dean Burns (0-1), Brian Doyle, Aaron Murphy (0-2, 2f), Hugo McGowan

J2FC Round 5
Caulry 4-14
Delvin 5-13
Our juniors came up short against Delvin when the sides battled it out in Ballinagore on Thursday evening last four Round 5 of the J2FC.
Neil Clinton opened the scoring inside the opening 60 seconds when he pointed from play. However, Delvin soon settled into proceedings and had 1-3 notched up within a matter of minutes. The sides shared four points all from frees to finish the opening quarter of play. Our lads worked hard prior to the halftime whistle with their efforts paying dividends as Caulry outscored the opposition 0-6 to 0-2. Sean O’Neill, Adam Donoghue, Mark Fitzpatrick and Liam Malynn all contributed to the scoring account as we trailed by two at the interval.
Malynn kicked the opening two points of the second half to level proceedings. Caulry were then given a glorious boost in the form of two goals. Firstly, Malynn converted a penalty before Donoghue struck lucky after a fine ball in from Emmet Nally. To credit Delvin, they responded well with a point from play seconds later. Hugh Allen then kicked the next score of the game on the 44th minute, but we were dealt a blow as a second yellow card meant we were reduced to fourteen men heading into the final quarter. Delvin took back-to-back scores inside the 45th minute, one of which was a goal to reduce the gap to two. Nally and Malynn then took points of there own to widen the gap once again. But Delvin had a hunger in their bellies and another unanswered 1-1 had the teams all-square. Allen’s second point of the game was cancelled out at the other end of the field. Brendan McCormack then struck lucky as he fired home a goal low and left on the 56th minute. However, no sooner had the Caulry cheer stopped when the sides were tied again as Delvin raced down the field and registered their fourth goal of the game. The men in maroon and white followed this up with a point to marginally take the lead. Our lads had one more burst in them and this time it was Clinton who finished with a goal after good work from Malynn and McCormack. However, in similar fashion to before, the Delvin men riffled home another goal within seconds to reinstate their lead. A late converted-free for the opposition saw them take the victory in this high scoring affair.
Team & Scorers: Ruiari Casey, Ciaran Allen, Johnny Buckley, Adam Mullins, Luke Hamilton, Sean O’Neil (0-1), Alan Daly, Neil Clinton (1-1), Alan Fitzpatrick, Brendan McCormack (1-0), Darren Browne, Hugh Allen (0-2), Adam Donoghue (1-1), Mark Fitzpatrick (0-1), Liam Malynn (1-7, 6f)
Subs: Emmet Nally (0-1) for Mark Fitzpatrick, Paul Hogan for Hugh Allen
SFC Round 5
Caulry 1-9
The Downs 1-9
Our seniors qualified for a quarter-final of this year’s SFC when they wrapped up their group-stages with a draw against The Downs on Sunday evening last.
Our lads made a positive start to the game with points from Senan Baker and Kevin Maguire. The Downs then got off the mark on the 5th minute with a free. A foul on Baker enabled Conor McCormack to put his name on the scoresheet when he sent over a pointed-free. The sides exchanged wides before Tadgh Baker found himself some space and riffled the back of the opposition’s net on the 11th minute. Caulry were then four points the good after a converted-mark from Alan Malynn. A pointed-free for The Downs was cancelled out at the other end of the field by Tiarnán O’Donovan after a fine catch from Stephen Connolly at midfield. The Downs then kicked the next two scores of the game on the 24th and 28th minutes. Jack Connaughton brought off a fine save on the 25th minute to keep our lead in-tact as an exchange of frees saw Caulry lead 1-6 to 0-5 at the break.
The sides tagged on early points with Malynn adding one for Caulry. Connaughton brought off another fine save on the 36th minute as the men in black and amber launched attack after attack as they availed of the favouring breeze. Despite owning much of the possession, the opposition only managed to convert one chance, this a point from play on the 45th minute. Our lads got back-to-back scores then via McCormack and Baker then. However, despite this four-point platform, our lads failed to push on as The Downs dug deep into the closing minutes of the half and kicked the last two scores to level the game just in the nick of time. This result sees Caulry finish 3rd in the table to qualify for a quarter-final next weekend.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton, Eoin Shortal, Kevin Maguire (0-1), Sean Fox, Tadgh Baker (1-0), Eoghan Grennan, Damien Dolan, Stephen Connolly, Sean Doyle, Ben Moran, Conor McCormack (0-2, 1f), Sean Murphy, Tiranán O’Donovan (0-1), Senan Baker (0-3, 2f), Alan Malynn (0-2, 1m)

U17 Championship
Caulry 1-11
Killucan 1-13
Our U17s were narrowly defeated by Killucan when they met in the park on Monday evening last.
Our lads got off to a good start with two points in quick succession courtesy of Aaron Murphy, one from a mark and one from play. A Killucan free preceded Brian Doyle’s point on the 4th minute. Killucan then went on to dominated the next fifteen minutes of play with five points in quick succession (One of these could have been a goal when the yellow bellies were awarded a penalty on the 14th minute. A good intervention from John Paul on this occasion sent the ball over the bar.) Our lads were brought right back into contention on the 22nd minute when Kyle Rainey pulled on a dropping ‘45’ and registered the first goal of the game. Murphy then followed this up with a point to leave Caulry one point in front. However, Killucan weren’t long about correcting things as their forward fired home a goal despite being surrounded by a Caulry defence. A late score from Murphy saw Caulry trail 1-6 to 1-5 at the break.
The sides were evenly matched throughout the second half as each score was followed up at the other end of the field. On the 42nd and 43rd minutes, Killucan kicked two consecutive points to widen their lead to two, and this remained the score difference for the remainder of the game. Murphy was on song throughout the half, accounting for all the scores bar one, which was a well-taken free from Rory Hatton to conclude the match.
Team & Scorers: John Paul, Sean Donnelly, Kyle Byrne, Rory Hatton (0-1, 1f), Dean Martin, Cormac Murphy, Cody Parker, David Gaynor, Lee Corcoran, Hugo McGowan, Dean Burns, Kyle Rainey (1-0), Simon O’Grady, Aaron Murphy (0-9, 7f), Brian Doyle (0-1)
Subs: Darragh Shortall for Cormac Murphy, Michael McSharry for Kyle Rainey, Cian Malone for Hugo McGowan
U15 Championship
Caulry 8-7
Milltownpass 5-11
Our U15s served up an exciting battle when they hosted Milltownpass in the park on Tuesday evening last. An entertaining first half saw our lads have a five-point cushion at halftime. Despite this, a brace of goals saw the opposition comeback and take the lead. With just five minutes left on the clock, the boys in black and white lead by five. On the 61st, a converted-free from Aaron reduced this gap to four. Our lads showed great spirit as a penalty from Ciarán moments later further reduced the deficit. Deep into injury time at this point, the Caulry boys showed grit and hunger for a win as a last ditch attempt saw Aaron fire home a goal and overturn the scoreline in our favour just in the nick of time.
Team & Scorers: John, Tom, Gavin Q, Rhys (1-0), Luke, Gavin M (0-1), Fionn, John (1-0), Hugo (1-3), Mathew, Ewan, Ciaran (2-0), Daragh M (0-1), Aaron (3-2), Kevin
Subs: Tristan, Evan, Senan, Marcus, Darragh B
SFC Quarter Final
Caulry 1-11
Athlone 2-6
Our club progress to a SFC semi-final for the first time since 1946 after our lads overcame Athlone in a tight contest on Saturday evening last.
Our lads had two chances to take the lead early on but failed to do so as Athlone opened the scoring account on the 4th minute with a converted-free. Another chance for Caulry fell short before Senan Baker got us going with his placed-ball effort on the 7th minute after a foul on Conor McCormack. Caulry were then dealt a blow as Eoghan Grennan was forced to the sideline momentarily having picked up a black card. The ensuing free kick, however, fell wide of its target to keep the sides on par. Two minutes later saw Athlone awarded another free which was tapped over the bar to marginally separate the sides. Both sets of forwards struggled to find scores throughout this half.: Caulry’s plight due to a very strong Athlone defence whereas the Shannonsiders will rue their missed opportunities, some of which created from break downs in our attack. The next score of the game came from the boot of McCormack, again another free. Emmet Nally injected a bit of excitement into proceedings on the 25th minute with his shot on goal being well blocked down. Further efforts from Baker and Paddy Sleator failed to find the uprights as Athlone built from deep and raced down the field, finishing with a three-pointer of their own on the 27th minute. Nally done well two minutes later when he got a touch to a high ball in from Alan Malynn and reduced the gap by one. However, the men in blue and white had one more say as they finished with a point to lead 1-2 to 0-2 at the interval.
Our lads came to life in the third quarter and this period of dominance yielded an unanswered 1-6. A trio of scores courtesy of Baker inside the resuming five minutes of the half levelled the game. Baker then left off a lovely ball to Nally who fired home a goal on the 37th minute to put our lads in the lead for the first time in the game, and this advantage would not be relinquished. McCormack was next to add to the scoring tally. Nally registered his third score of the game on the 42nd minute after a fine intercept from Ben Moran in the Caulry defence. Athlone failed to convert their chances as their tally of wides grew. Tadgh Baker, who done trojan work throughout, burst down the field from a kickout and finished with a point to widen the gap to five as the 45th minute elapsed. A point for Athlone at this point broke the Caulry momentum and steadied their ship somewhat. The opposition weren’t going to lie down as a dangerous ball in was brilliantly deflected out wide by Moran. However, the ensuing ‘45’ resulted in a goal which left just two points between the sides going into the final ten minutes of play. Caulry responded well with back-to-back scores from Sleator and McCormack. Nerves were on show at this point as Athlone piled on the pressure and three scorable chances went wide for Caulry. Thankfully, our defence held strong with interventions from Tadgh Baker and Damien Dolan stalling Athlone’s attack. The men in blue and white did manage two late scores, but ultimately our lads had done enough to secure a semi-final meeting against Coralstown/Kinnegad.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton, Ben Moran, Kevin Maguire, Sean Fox, Tadgh Baker (0-1), Eoghan Grennan, Sean Clinton, Stephen Connolly, Paddy Sleator (0-1), Tiarnán O’Donovan, Conor McCormack (0-3, 1f), Sean Murphy, Emmet Nally (1-2), Senan Baker (0-4, 3f), Alan Malynn

J2FC Quarter Final
Caulry 0-8
Coralstown/Kinnegad 1-12
Our juniors bowed out of this year’s J2FC with a defeat to Coralstown/Kinnegad in Maryland on Sunday afternoon last.
Coralstown/Kinnegad were first to get motoring with a point on the 5th minute. Liam Malynn opened Caulry’s account with his ‘45’ after Darren Browne’s goal was saved. Coralstown/Kinnegad followed this score with another point from play. The opposition then got lucky as our defence buckled under pressure and a goal was let slip in. Darren Browne and Malynn drew two back with scores on the 20th and 21st minutes. However, the opposition reinstated their lead moments later with 0-2 in quick succession. The teams shared a further two points before the halftime whistle which saw Coralstown/Kinnegad lead by four at the break.
The opposition pushed on in the early stages of the second half, adding an unanswered 0-4. Malynn opened our second half account on the 44th minute. The Caulry lads tried hard but couldn’t find the target as the opposition widened the gap with two more points from play. Late scores from Alan Fitzpatrick and Malynn saw Coralstown/Kinnegad prevail with seven points to spare.
Team & Scorers: Ruiari Casey, Alan Daly, Johnny Buckley, Adam Mullins, Luke Hamilton, Sean O’Neill, Neil Clinton, Alan Lynam, Alan Fitzpatrick (0-1), Hugh Allen, Adam Donoghue, Brendan McCormack, Will Buckley, Darren Browne (0-2, 1m), Liam Malynn (0-5, 1 ‘45’)

SFC Semi Final
Caulry 0-6
Coralstown/Kinnegad 1-8
Our seniors bowed out of this year’s championship with a defeat to Coralstown/Kinnegad on Sunday evening last.
Coralstown/Kinnegad were first to open the scoring account after overturning our attack and finishing with a point on the 3rd minute. The opposition then went two points the good with a converted-free. A couple of chances for us went astray before Senan Baker kicked our opening score from a free on the 10th minute. Coralstown/Kinnegad reinstated their two-point lead with a similar free at the other end of the field. Our lads had another chance to draw back the deficit but what should have been a Caulry point was finished over the bar by the opposition on the 15th minute. We were lucky on this occasion though as Kevin Maguire provided a necessary cushion to stop the men in white and red firing home a goal. Baker added another free on the 20th minute. Overall, Coralstown/Kinnegad looked more dangerous up front throughout this half as their no. 14 found a pocket of space in a packed defence and riffled the back of our net. The opposition then followed this up with a point to lead 1-5 to 0-2 at the break.
Early chances for Coralstown/Kinnegad failed to pay dividends in the opening stages of the second half. Instead, it was Conor McCormack who was first to point, this a fine score on the 36th minute from the terrace side of Cusack Park. Coralstown/Kinnegad drew this back moments later, but McCormack was on form as he set over another point, similar to his preceding score. Both sides missed scores before McCormack got his hattrick of points at the end of the third quarter, this from a free. Our lads tried hard throughout the second half but with Coralstown/Kinnegad back in numbers, our forwards struggled to find their shooting boots. The next score of the game came from Damien Dolan after a quickly taken free from McCormack. This left just three points between the sides as the final ten minutes approached. However, Coralstown/Kinnegad remained calm under pressure and picked off a point to widen the gap once again. Jack Connaughton brought off a fine save on the 55th minute. However, our dreams of a county final were soon put to bed when a late Coralstown/Kinnegad point put them five points the good as stoppage time elapsed.
Despite the result, this has been a huge step forward for our club. 77 years since our club were last represented in a senior championship semi-final. The experience of this game will stand to our lads and they’ll come back bigger and better. Well done to the lads and their management team of Shane Curran, Owen Mooney and Padraig Moran for their hard with and commitment during the year!

U19 Championship Quarter Final
Caulry 4-14
Athlone 1-8
Our U19s progress to a semi-final of this year’s championship after they eased over Athlone in the park on Sunday morning last.
Our lads hit the ground running when Paul Hogan and Tiarnán O’Donovan showed great vision, combining together before Hogan finished with a goal. Tadgh Baker and Brendan McCormack added points before the opposition got off the mark. Their opening score came on the 6th minute after a free-kick was helped over the bar. O’Donovan put five points between the sides then on the 11th minute. However, at this stage in the game our lads’ heads dipped and the town side launched a comeback. They dominated our kickout and rattled off four points in quick succession to reduce the gap to one at the end of the first third. Brain Doyle then struck lucky for a goal on the 23rd minute to break Athlone’s momentum, this coming after a quick move down the field via Oisín Shortall and Baker. Hogan then well and truly undone all of the opposition’s effort when he registered our hattrick seconds later (O’Donovan can be accredited here for showing great vision). A trio of points from Doyle, Baker and McCormack enabled our lads to finish the half on a high and lead 3-6 to 0-5 at the interval.
Aaron Murphy and O’Donovan added points early on in the second half. Athlone drew one of these back on the 34th minute. Both sides missed some scoring chances before the next two scores of the game from the boots of O’Donovan and Lee Corcoran. Athlone chipped into the ever-growing deficit somewhat on the 44th minute when they converted a penalty. But this was as good as it got, as our lads finished the half well, outscoring the lads in blue and navy 1-4 to 0-2 to secure their semi-final spot.
Team & Scorers: Conor Hynes, Ben Claffey, Cormac Murphy, David Gaynor, Dean Martin, Harry Stuart Trainor, Brendan McCormack (1-2), Tadgh Baker (0-2), Alan Lynam, Dean Burns, Oisín Shortall, Paul Hogan (2-1, 1f), Brian Doyle (1-2), Tiarnán O’Donovan (0-3), Aaron Murphy (0-3, 1f)

U19 Championship Semi-Final
Caulry 1-7
Coralstown/Kinnegad 1-20
Our U19s bowed out of this year’s championship in the semi-final stages when they came up short against Coralstown/Kinnegad on Friday evening last.
Our lads were very slow to get going as the homeside had tagged on 0-9 before Caulry got off the mark. Our opening score came on the 22nd minute from the boot of Lee Corcoran, but this was closely followed by a corresponding Coralstown/Kinnegad point. Tiarnán O’Donovan then kicked a duo of scores, one from play and one from a free. The opposition rounded off the first half scoring with a free to lead comprehensively at the break.
Our lads came out with their tails up in the second half as O’Donovan fired home a goal inside the resuming minute of the half. The teams then traded points with Paul Hogan on target for Caulry on the 37th minute. The opposition then took back control of proceedings with an unanswered four points. Points from Corcoran, Andrew Stuart Trainor and Hogan drew three of these back. However, the homeside finished the half with 1-1 to secure their spot in the county final.

Minor AGM
Our minor AGM takes place this Thursday in the community hall at 7:30pm. All welcome to attend.
Junior B Championship
Caulry 4-7
St. Malachys 4-11
Our juniors bowed out of this year's Junior B championship with a defeat to St. Malachys on Sunday morning last.
It was the homeside who got off the mark first but our lads were the more impressive side of the half as they followed up this point with two goals from the boot of Thomas Dunning. Shane Lawless then kicked out first point on the game on the 7th minute. St Malachys missed some chances before eventually splitting the uprights on the 15th minute. However, this minor dent in the deficit was soon overturned with further points from Liam Malynn and Dunning. Sean Murphy registered our hat-trick on the 19th minute when he found a pocket of the space in the opposition's defence. St. Malachys kicked a duo of points late in the half before Malynn rounded off the scoring to leave our lads in front 4-4 to 0-5 at the break.
Despite this well-cushioned lead, our lads failed to push on, only scoring three points in the second half. Dunning accounted for the first of these on the 33rd minute. This score preceded the homeside's purple patch which yielded an unanswered 4-3 and saw St. Malachys get their noses in front. Tiarnán O'Donovan and Adam Donoghue kept our hopes alive with their points on the 48th and 50th minutes, but credit to the men in black and red as they kept their composure at this point in the game and worked the ball down the field for a point. Our lads were awarded one more lifeline, this in the form of a penalty but unfortunately Malynn couldn't get the better of the St Malachys keeper at this point of asking. St Malachys saw out the half with two late points to ensure their place in the knockout stages.
Team & Scorers: Ruiari Casey, Alan Daly, Darren Hynds, Adam Mullins, Harry Stuart Trainor, Sean Murphy (1-0), Olan Healy, Alan Lynam, Shane Lawless (0-1), Brendan McCormack, Adam Donoghue (0-1), Oisín Shortall, Tiarnán O'Donovan (0-1), Thomas Dunning (2-2), Liam Malynn (1-2)
Subs: Luke Hamilton for Alan Lynam, Ciarán Allen for Adam Mullins, Glenn Carolan for Alan Daly, Will Buckley for Brendan McCormack, Brendan McCormack for Shane Lawless

U13 Shield Final Winners Medal Presentation
Our U13 team who were crowned Division 4 Shield Winners were honoured on Sunday evening last when they were presented with their medals by our club and county star Kevin Maguire. The following is a report from the lucky day back in October when they were crowned Division 4 Shield champions.
On Sunday 22nd of October Caulry U13’s travelled to Tubberclair for the Division 4 Shield final to take on Lilliput Gaels.
Conditions were ideal for football and the Caulry lads didn’t disappoint. From the throw in Darragh Belton and Brian Moran combined well to set up Cathal Casey, who pointed well. This was followed by a Simeon O’Flaherty point following good work from Brian Moran and Sionnach Winters. The Lilliput forwards were kept at bay by the tenacious full back line of Kyle Mason, Evan Allen and Shea Ledwith, with keeper Devon Martin commanding the square.
After good interplay between Senan Hatton and Darragh Belton a long ball was worked into the corner where Simeon O’Flaherty crossed a high ball back into the opposition goalmouth which was fisted by Stephen O’Reilly into the back of the net. Simeon O’Flaherty followed up with his second of the game after good work from Sean Maguire and Caelan O’Neill.
From the resultant kickout Brian Moran and Conor Padden turned over the opposition and fed Sionnach Winters who pointed well . The opposition responded with a well taken goal but Sionnach Winters got his second of the game after linking up well with Cahal Casey to settle things down. Lilliput made a raft of changes bringing on five subs and reaped the rewards with the next score, but great defending from Devon Martin and the back six kept Lilliput out, before referee Vinny Cox blew the whistle for half time with Caulry ahead by four points.
Upon the resumption Lilliput pointed to leave one score between the teams and instilled new confidence in them but the Caulry lads weren’t in the humour for quitting. Evan Allen and Conor Padden shored up the middle letting no man through. Senan Hatton and Sean Maguire were gelling well with corner forwards Cathal Casey and Stephen O’Reilly. Brian Moran and Simeon O’Flaherty set up Adam Ledwith for a fantastic goal. Simeon followed up a point of his own. Darragh Belton and Caelan O’Neill combined well to set Sean Maguire in for Caulry’s third goal . Lilliput tried their best but the ever reliable Shea Ledwith and Kyle Mason were cleaning up in the back line and with Devon Martin finding his men with the kickouts, Caulry drove on. Adam Ledwith kicked a sweet point in between two points from the left boot of Sionnach Winters. Lilliput did try hard to breach the Caulry rearguard but Joe Walsh was steadfast in defence limiting them to a point. In the final play of the game Lilliput threw the kitchen sink at the Caulry goal but a fantastic save from Devin Martin ensured Caulry finished victorious on a scoreline of 3-09 to 1-03.
Team: Devon Martin, Kyle Mason, Evan Allen, Shea Ledwith, Sean Maguire, Conor Padden, Senan Hatton, Darragh Belton, Brian Moran, Caelan O’Neill, Sionnach Winters, Adam Ledwith, Stephen O’Reilly, Simeon O’Flaherty, Cathal Casey.
Sub: Joe Walsh for Kyle Mason
