Division 2 ACFL
Caulry 1-8
Tubberclair 1-8
Our seniors travelled to Tubberclair on Saturday evening last for their second outing in this year’s Division 2 ACFL.
Tubberclair were first to put their name on the scoreboard after taking advantage of the advanced mark. Colin Murphy soon levelled the tally with a pointed-free. The homeside shot for a goal on the 8th minute, but this effort trickled out wide thanks to pressure from the Caulry defence. Murphy then put our lads in front after combining nicely with Robbie Hickey. Both sides missed a number of chances with Caulry also missing a goal opportunity despite a good move through Hickey, Andy O’Sullivan and Emmet Nally. Murphy got his third point of the evening before Shane Lawless tagged on his opening score after good play from Olan Healy. A smattering of wides followed before the sides exchanged a point apiece with Loughlin Casey on target for our lads after good outfield work from Eoin Fox. O’Sullivan then put our lads four points the good before the interval with his effort late in the half.
Both sides were slow to settle again in the second half as the tally of wides grew before Tubberclair slotted one over on the 34th minute. Fox worked tirelessly in defence and made numerous strides forward with his hard-work paying off on the 36th as he set Paddy Sleator up for a score. The homeside always kept in touching distance of the lead, adding two points to half the deficit. Sean Doyle found Sean Murphy who pointed on the 49th minute, with this score soon being cancelled out with another pointed-free at the other end of the field. Good play from O’Sullivan set Hickey up as he rattled the back of the Tubberclair net on the 58th minute stretching the Caulry lead to five and one would have thought, putting the game to bed. However, the homeside fought hard in the closing stages of the game as the Caulry defence tired and they tagged on an unanswered 1-2 to leave it all-square at the fulltime whistle.

Division 4 ACFL
Caulry 0-14
St. Lomans 4-16
Our second team were well defeated by St. Lomans on Sunday morning last for their second Division 4 ACFL game.
Liam Malynn opened the scoring account on the 2nd minute with a point from play before the homeside got motoring with a goal moments later. The sides exchanged a point each with Thomas Dunning on target for Caulry before the homeside totted up an unanswered 1-3. Malynn drew one back from a free. However, this was as good as it got as the St. Lomans side punished Caulry’s mistakes and notched up 2-2 in quick succession and took command of the game. Our lads then put their stamp on the game in the closing minutes of the half. A good catch at midfield from Gary Flanagan set Alan Malynn up for a point. The Malynn brothers then combined nicely with Liam finishing off the move with another point from play. Three late scores from Brian Carroll and Thomas Dunning left Caulry trailing 4-6 to 0-8 at the break.
It was the homeside who were first off the mark after the resumption of play with a well-taken point. The teams shared four points as Liam Malynn and Rory Mullins added to Caulry’s tally. The game went on a point-for-point basis with the two sides exchanging periods of dominance. Darren Browne, Dunning and Malynn accounted for our scores, but ultimately the four goals in the opening half provided vital as St. Lomans ran out easy winners on a scoreline of 4-16 to 0-14.
