U14 Championship

Caulry 6-11

Mullingar Shamrocks 3-10

Caulry’s U14 team played host to Mullingar Shamrocks on Wednesday evening last where the homeside ran out winners on a scoreline of 6-11 to 3-10.

Caulry hit the ground running with a goal from James Carey in the opening minute. Tom Cloonan defended well in the early stages of the game as Luke Buckley pointed on the 3rd minute. Mullingar Shamrocks’ first score came from a pointed-free on the 5th minute. A superb goal attempt from James Buckley was saved by the Mullingar goalie. However, the rebound was slotted neatly into the net by Rory Mullins. The Shamrocks’ boys worked tirelessly, kicking three points in quick succession to leave just three points the margin by the quarter-hour mark. Colm Shortall fielded well as Carey rattled the back of the opposition’s net for a second time. Mullingar Shamrocks hit a purple patch by the 19th minute, scoring an unanswered 2-1 to leave just two points between the sides. However, our defence held strong when put under pressure, with Josh Jocher and Senan Baker having impressive displays. Carey sent the ball to the back of the Mullingar net again on the 23rd minute. The teams traded scores late in the half, with Luke Buckley on target for Caulry, to leave the homeside leading 4-2 to 2-7 at the halftime break.

Points from Jamie Conlon early in the second half kept the scoreboard ticking over. Some good combined teamwork from James Buckley enabled Alan Malynn to rattle the Mullingar net. Our lads began to dominate proceedings with points from Luke Buckley, Baker and Olan Healy and a goal from Sean Malone. However, the Mullingar Shamrocks’ boys never gave up, scoring 1-2 late in the game. Conor Paul brought off a great save in goals as a late point for Shamrocks meant Caulry ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 6-11 to 3-10.

U16 Championship Division 1

Caulry 5-12

Multyfarnham 1-4

Caulry played host to Multyfarnham on Monday week last for the third round of the Westmeath Under 16 championship. Without ever really getting into top gear our lads enjoyed a comfortable win. By virtue of this third successive victory, Caulry top their group and go into the quarter final. An early point by Adam Donoghue was followed by two goals within a minute by Matthew Nally, which effectively ended the contest. At half time the score was 4-7 to 0-2. On the changeover, the tempo of the game eased up considerably, with the men in red knowing that stiffer challenges lie ahead. Best on the evening for Caulry were Eoin Shortall, Dylan Lowry, Zach Nolan, Liam Doyle, Adam Donoghue and Matthew Nally.

Senior Championship

Caulry 0-15

Athlone 1-9

Caulry and Athlone served up an exciting encounter in Hogan Park on Sunday last for their latest game in the SFC.

Caulry were first off the mark with a pointed-free from David Brookes. Athlone soon followed suit with two points in quick succession. Our defence held strong early in the game with Kevin Maguire and Sean Clinton valiant in their endeavours as a pointed free from Robbie Hickey drew level on the 12th minute. Robbie Hickey tapped over two more frees to put Caulry in front by the quarter-hour mark. Some good play from Ben Moran and Eoin Fox enabled Damien Dolan to point on the 21st minute. The teams traded scores late in the half, with Brookes and Alan Fitzpatrick on target for Caulry, to leave the scoreboard reading 0-7 to 0-3 at the interval.

On the resumption, the opposition pointed to narrow the deficit. A pointed-free from Hickey kept the scoreboard ticking over. Athlone kicked 0-2 in quick succession to leave two points the margin. However, some superb fielding from Sean Doyle enabled Harry Hughes to point on the 55th minute. Peter Smyth kicked the next two scores of the game. However, the opposition worked tirelessly, scoring 1-2 in quick succession. James Pettit and Damien Dolan defended well as a point from Gary Flanagan left three points the margin. The teams traded scores late into injury time with Smyth adding to the scoring tally. A late point from Damien Dolan sealed the victory on a scoreline of 0-15 to 1-9.

Minor Quarter Final Fixture

Caulry play St Loman’s Mullingar at home in the Minor Division 1 championship this Wednesday, Caulry 6.30pm. All supporters are asked to get behind the lads.
