<Gospel of Matthias Protevangelium of James>
Professor Morton Smith (b. 1915; d. 1991) claimed he found this text post-scribed on the back sleeve of a 1646 manuscript at Mar Saba monastery in southern Israel in 1958. In 1973 Smith published low quality photos of the text. According to a librarian named Kallistos Dourvas, when the manuscript came into the possession of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate library in Jerusalem in 1977, he removed the sleeve and took photos; these photos were later published by Nikolaos Olympiou in 2000. Subsequently the sleeve went missing, never having been forensically analyzed. The text of this sleeve post dates 1646 and is void of any earlier manuscript support.
