Sunday 18th May

The big plan today was to drive into Death Valley and do some of the sights there before returning to the hotel. However, when planning the day's activities this morning, I suddenly noticed that just to get to the main information area in Death Valley, we would have to travel almost three hours. Coupled with the return trip plus whatever we spent driving about the valley itself, it all added up to a lot of driving for one day. Since we were out driving for over four hours yesterday, I decided that this would be too much - especially since we've got a five hour+ drive tomorrow to get to Las Vegas.

So, we decided to have a 'quiet day' in the hotel and then we'll see whether we can visit some of the sights tomorrow on our way down to Vegas. Hopefully that'll make the drive manageable.

So, for today we grabbed breakfast, then went next door to the bakery again to get some sandwiches for lunch later. As it was another hot (with a cool wind) sunny day we decided to make use of the pool at the hotel.

Even though the pool isn't heated, it was fine to swim in - we had the place to ourselves for two hours!

We then got out, returned to the hotel room for lunch. After which, Linda decided to brave the sunshine and go and sit out on one of the comfy chairs arranged alongside the creek which gives this hotel it's name. I hid away in the room - not wanting to burn and also sunlight means I can't see the screen of whatever it is I'm using at the time :)

Eventually, the time came for dinner. So we went across the road to a BBQ place - the food was actually quite tasty, although odd looking!

Brisket, Coleslaw, Cornbread - "Redneck Taco"

This was described in the menu as 'redneck taco'. Cornbread with steak brisket and coleslaw.

Back to the hotel and it's packing time again.

Vegas tomorrow, baby!
