[20:12]

We had a change today in that we skipped the beach and instead got into the car and headed North to St Petersburg which is the next nearest large town to where we are staying.

The trip took about a hour and that included a drive over the massive Skyway Bridge (toll $1:25) which links Anna Maria to the mainland.

Approaching the Skybridge!

It looks bigger than the QE2 bridge at home, but looking at the stats it has a shorter central span than the QE2, is a few feet higher at the centre but is much much longer (6600 metres as opposed to 821m for the QE2).

St Petersburg sits on the Gulf coast and has a thriving waterfront property scene with some lovely multi-million dollar properties on show, with boats to match.

We had a wander around - it was very hot today, especially without the concrete and no on-shore breezes.

We booked ourself into a local dolphin cruise which took us out into the bay for a short history lesson (couldn't hear a thing over the noise of the engine) and then we went out looking for dolphins. We found a couple of pods swimming about although they were a little shy.

One last swim past

Back to shore then back home, just catching the sunset as we were driving towards Anna Maria.

Sunset over interstate!
