All went smoothly and as we had a few hours to kill before we needed to be at the airport, we decided to drive down to Mandalay Bay hotel to visit the aquarium exhibit there.
That killed a hour. Then we went on to the Vegas sign that's just a short drive from the airport.
From there it was minutes to get to the airport. We dropped the car off, I'd thought there might be an issue as the car had a noticeable scratch along the drivers side. We'd not seen it when we picked up the car, but then we'd got it from an underground car park which was dimly lit, so who knows whether it was there from the start. We had no issues though. The receipt shows we drove 1165 miles in total.
At McCarren airport the car rental area is a bus ride from the terminal, so we had to load everything onto the bus.
Once in the airport, check-in was straightforward and we chilled in the Starbucks before moving onto Security.
The security check was the simplest I think we've ever gone through. It was referred to as a Pre-TSA access and didn't involve the searching, shoes-off, pockets empty process we're normally used to. Just remove phones from your person and put everything else (still in the carry-on luggage) through the metal detector.
McCarren airport has been upgraded since we were here last, the departure area (after security) has a few shops and even a small duty-free area. Recharging points too so you can top up your phone if you need to. Much more relaxing.
