Serves 3
This can be served warm or cold
1 block of soft or silken tofu
2 sliced green onions
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tsp brown sugar
3 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tbsp chili crisp
1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
1 tsp sesame oil
Cold version: mix garlic, brown sugar, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil and chili crisp in bowl. Dice tofu and add to bowl. Top with sesame seeds and green onions. Mix and serve.
Hot version: mix garlic, brown sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil and chili crisp in small pot. Heat over medium heat, stirring often until mixture begins to bubble. Let it simmer for 1-2 minutes. Stir in green onions and remove form heat. You can poach the tofu by carefully lowering the block of tofu into a pot with enough water by one inch extra. Bring to a gentle simmer - don't let it simmer too much or it will break apart. After 5-8 minutes, carefully remove the tofu with a slotted spoon. Let excess water drip and then slice it, mix with sauce and serve. The tofu can also be poached in the microwave. Place it on a plate and cook it until steaming but be very careful not to over do it!
