Portobello Sandwiches

2 garlic cloves, minced

6 tbsp olive oil

1/2 tsp dried thyme

2 tbsp balsamic vinegar

salt and pepper to taste

4 large portobello mushrooms

4 hamburger buns

1/4 cup mayonnaise

1 tbsp capers

1 large tomato, sliced

4 leaves lettuce

Turn on boiler and adjust rack so it is as close as possible to the heat source.

In a medium-sized bowl, mix garlic, olive oil, thyme, vinegar, salt and pepper.

Put mushroom caps, bottom side up, in a shallow baking pan. Brush the caps with half of the garlic mixture. Put the caps under the broiler and cook for 5 minutes - be careful not to burn.

Turn caps and brush the remaining garlic mixture. Broil for another 5 minutes. Toast buns if preferred.

In small bowl, mix capers and mayonnaise. Spread mayonnaise and caper mixture on buns. Top with mushrooms, tomatoes and lettuce.
