Without any instruction or video. I would like you to have a look at the following and experiment and see if you can find the math rule to solve the following. I will break down the rule in my video tomorrow but encourage you to have a 'play' with the problems today and see if you think find the answer
Some ideas to explore might include "what would you do if the decimal point wasn't in the question?"
"what would the answer be if there weren't any decimal points in the question?"
"Is there a way you could find the answers without the decimal points? Then add the decimal points in after?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once you have had an experiement, use a calculator to check your answers. Did you get close?
*Dont worry if you were way off! I will teach you how to do this tomorrow.
The following is an OPTIONAL extension task
L.I. I am learning to describe the importance of events in the plot
S.C.
I can describe some details of a scene
I can explain why I think it’s important.
Task 1: 20 minutes of silent reading
Task 2: Watch the teacher video which explains our learning focus and how to be successful in today’s tasks.
Instructions for today’s task:
In your literacy workbook add to your vocabulary page.
Chapter 17 vocabulary: permeated, postures, warily
Read Chapter 17 of The Giver.
You can choose to either listen to the audio book video (link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ed9rYWYjVu0), or read Chapter 17 independently (link to online version of The Giver text: https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=sites&srcid=ZGVmYXVsdGRvbWFpbnxjbGFzc2FsYmVydGl8Z3g6NzE3OTEzYzE0YTgxYzUyZA - scroll down to about page 131).
In your literacy workbook, write the heading ‘Chapter 17’, and then write your chapter work responses for Part A, Part B and Part C.
Part A - Write a definition for each of these words:
permeated,
postures
warily
Here is a link to an online dictionary: https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/
Part B - Plot Events
Describe the plot events linked to these quotes:
1. “ ‘Don’t play it anymore,’ Jonas pleaded.”
2. “The twins are being born tomorrow, and the test results show that they’re identical.”
Part C - Chapter Reflection
Based on this chapter, write a paragraph that includes some questions, ideas, or connections you have so far about this story.
Optional extension: Explore the literary term - foreshadowing
Foreshadowing: Little hints in the text that help the reader predict something important that will occur later in the story.
“…Now he saw the familiar, wide river beside the path differently. He saw all of the color and light and history it contained and carried in its slow-moving water; and he knew that there was an Elsewhere from which it came, and an Elsewhere to which it was going,..” (page 131).
Based on this quotation, how does Jonas view the river differently from the way he used to view it before he gained the memories? Also, explain why you think this quotation may be foreshadowing in the story.
LI: We are learning to develop our writing ideas by creating a “famous landmark” writing seed
SC: I will can be successful if I can create an in depth writing seed
Activity 1 – Writing Seed
Today we will be creating our own “Famous Landmark” seed. This will include choosing a famous landmark anywhere around the world and drawing it in the centre of your page. After drawing this, you can then write down as many facts about that landmark around the picture as you can find.
If you run out of facts about the landmark, you can easily search some facts about the place where it is situated.
Here is an examples of mine:
Activity 2
Writers Workshop
We can now move onto our Writer’s Workshop. You still have the freedom to write what you wish, but we still expect you to take pride in your work.
Here are a few things we expect you to follow while creating your writing piece:
Freedom to write what you wish
Taking pride in your work
Writing in a peaceful and quiet environment (you could work outside in the sunshine, listen to some music if it helps you think etc.)
Following the Seven Steps and the Writing Process
This is also a fantastic opportunity to upload your work and receive some conferencing notes from your teacher!
