Success Criteria: I can use word parts to determine the meaning of words (prefix, suffix, origins and abbreviations).
Introduction: A suffix is a word part that is placed at the end of a base word.
Activity:
Rule 4 columns in your book with the headings; ing, er, est and ed.
Watch the video and pause each time Mrs. Holmes asks you to.
Write the words in each column with the suffix added.
Go on a word hunt to add words to your columns. Try to find words with the 4 suffix endings in books from your bookshelf, Reading Eggspress and Kids News.
Extension: Complete the word activity task focussed on the suffix: less.

Tuning In: Explore the Literacy Shed: Images Shed by clicking the link below. You could use one of the images as a prompt for rocket writing, to plant a seed in your Writer’s Notebook or to help you with ideas if you are stuck.
Activity: Today you can choose to begin drafting a new writing piece, continue the drafting process for a piece of writing you are already working on or self edit a draft so that it is ready to publish.
Our aim today is to write independently for 30mins.
Remember to apply the strategies ‘I lock my eyes and ears in’ and ‘I write the whole time’ so that you are increasing your writing stamina.
Learning Intention: We are learning to spell words using the trigraph /our/ making the sound "eh" as in colour.
Success Criteria: I have identified the vowel and consonant sounds in my weekly spelling words.
Tuning In: Complete the Thursday column of your weekly spelling grid.
Activity:
Complete the following activity using at least 5 of your list words.
Colour Coding
Say the word aloud.
Write the word.
Trace over the letters that make a consonant sound in blue.
Trace over the letters that make a vowel sound in red.

Tuning In: Open-ended problem. ‘I went into a store and came out with some fruit and bread and 50cents change. How much could the food have cost me and how much could I have given to them receive 50 cents change?’
