Welcome back!
Today is Parent Teacher Interviews. There will be no Google Meet today- the next Google Meet will be on Tuesday at 9.45am. We'd love to see all of you there!
This week, the tasks to be uploaded to the Google Classroom are-
Monday- Reading
Tuesday- Maths
Wednesday- Writing
There will be a red section underneath the task to be uploaded with a link to the Google Classroom submission folder. Simply click on your child's class name (2A, 2B or 2C) and upload a photo to submit the task. Please get in touch with your child's teacher if you have any queries.
If you would prefer to view the learning activities for the whole week in the one spot, please click on the button below to download the pdf.
Learning intention: We are learning to understand what we read by answering questions about a text.
Success criteria: I can answer questions about a text to develop my understanding.
Please watch the video above of Mrs WK reading Edwina the Emu.
Answer the questions below in your Literacy book. You don’t have to copy the question down in your book, you can just write the number and then the answer. Please answer the questions in full sentences. Mrs WK gives an example of how to do this in the video. You might need to rewatch the story again to answer some of the questions. This is a good strategy to help us understand what we read- do you remember last time in Remote Learning when we worked on the strategy Go Back & Reread?
Edwina the Emu questions
How many eggs did Edwina lay?
Who lay on the eggs and looked after the nest?
What job did Edwina try first?
Why do you think the third emu chick was called “Sniffly-Sneeze”?
Why do you think Edward needed a rest when Edwina returned to the nest?
Learning intention: We can organise our thinking as questions.
Success Criteria: We can use the 5 W’s to record questions about an Australian Animals.
Resources-
Writer’s Notebook
Ranger Guide
Activity:
Using their ‘Writer’s Notebook’ the students record questions about an Australian Animal of their choice.
There are some animals that we have provided information for, these would be an easier option however the students can choose an alternative animal that will take more research.
Students list questions that can think of using the 5 W’s (and an extra)
Who
What
Where
When
Why
and
How
Please note ‘Fat Questions’ that have ‘Fat Answers’ are encouraged. Questions that can have a long answer not a single word.
Learning Intention: I can spell words with the digraph kn as in knee.
Success Criteria:
I can choose my 10 spelling words for the week
I can create my Spelling sheet for the week and complete the Monday column

Your child should watch (kn as in knee).
Your child will choose lesson 14.
Students choose 8 words from the weekly spelling list that suit them.
Spelling Lists are already pasted into their Spelling Book.
They will also choose 2 'BOB' or 'Opportunity' words that they would like to practise. These words do not need to have the weekly spelling focus in them. These words might be from the students writing or new words that they have learnt from their reading lessons this week.
Learning intention: We are learning strategies that help us with multiplication.
Success Criteria: I can show the answer to multiplication questions in different ways. (repeated addition, groups and arrays).
Activity:
Students choose a multiplication equation from the chilli levels. (We have spoken about these in class. Students know that they can choose a level that best suits them. If it’s not the right level they can experiment with going to another level.)
Mild (green) - 3X5=15 or 3X4=12
Spicy (orange) 3X7=21 or 4X8=32
Hot (red) 6X9=54 or 7X8=56 (feel free to try your own ‘hot’ level equation if you wish. Students should check their answer with mum or dad first, or even use a calculator before they begin showing their answer in their book).
Show your equation in 4 ways- watch the video for a full explanation and look at the picture below for an example.
-Repeated addition (5+5+5= 15)
-Groups
-an array
-can you make up a story to go with it
eg: 3 X 5= 15
There were 3 children who all had 5 lolly-pops each. There were 15 lolly-pops all together.
