Today's task to be uploaded to Google Classroom: Writing
Hi Grade Two! We hope you had a fantastic and restful weekend, and spent some time out in the beautiful sunshine. Winter is almost over, hooray!
We all have a Google Meet at 9.45 today with our teacher and friends. We can't wait to see you there! Don't forget that you also have your Literacy Groups during the week too. Check in with your teacher, or click here if you are unsure of your Literacy Group time.
This week, the Google Classrooms tasks to be uploaded are:
Monday- Writing
Tuesday- Maths
Wednesday- Reading
Friday- Writing/Inquiry
Learning intention: We are learning to read using punctuation
Success Criteria: We can identify punctuation and its purpose
*You will notice in the story in the video below that they will use the word 'period' for what we call a full stop. We're pretty clever in Grade 2 and will still be able to know what they're talking about. This is a worthwhile story if we can overlook that one minor detail!
You will need: Paper, pencils, sticky tape, and something to use as a handle for your puppets. This could be an icy pole stick, chopstick, rolled up paper, or a regular stick from your backyard.
Home learning activity:
Watch the above video from Mrs WK
Watch the above video about ‘The Punctuation Family’. The narrator reads with amazing expression!
Gather your materials.
Watch the below video from Mrs WK which shows you how to make your own puppets.
Put your puppets in a safe place, we will use them this week in Reading.

When writing about an event or even recounting a story remember to include the 5 W’s.

You might like to watch the video below to remind us to use the 5W’s when we read and when we write.

Students choose 8 words from the weekly spelling list that suit them.
Spelling Lists are already pasted into their Spelling Book.
They will also choose 2 'BOB' or 'Opportunity' words that they would like to practise. These words do not need to have the weekly spelling focus in them. These words might be from the students writing or new words that they have learnt from their reading lessons this week.
Learning intention: We are learning about the connection between multiplication and division.
Success Criteria: I can use an array to help me understand multiplication and division.
I can make number sentences using both multiplication and division (share between).
Warm Up: To get your brains in maths mode, choose and of the warm up games we have been playing; Multiplication War, Rock-Paper-Scissors, Get Out of My House, flowers, spider webs or Shake-it & Make-it.
Activity: Students can make an array with counters to help work out multiplication and division facts. They will see that the number of counters in each row times each column gives them the total. Then they can start with the total, and divide it into equal groups using the counters in each column and row as a guide. Please watch the teaching video for a worked example.
