Introduction: Go and count how many pairs of socks you own. Now count how many pairs of shoes you own. How many pairs of your socks had holes in them? How many pairs of your socks were odd socks? Were any socks missing a partner? Have you bought new socks since learning from home?
Extension: Practise counting by 2s, 5s, 10s.
Activity: Watch Mr Keys take you through today’s lesson.
Today you are going to make a number line to help with counting on when adding numbers. Your number line will have the numbers 0 - 20. Extension students, begin your number line from 10 - 30. Once you have made the number line collected two six sided dice. If you don’t have dice, make two packs of cards up to 10. You can flip the cards over to add instead of using the dice.
Role the dice.
Identify the biggest number and circle it on your number line. Look at your second dice. Count on that many spaces to find the total. Continue until you have had lots of practise using the number line today.
We have included an ABC instructional video as an extra resources: https://abcspla.sh/m/3528659
You will know you are finished when…. you can confidently use the number line when adding two numbers.
Challenge: Practise adding ten to your numbers today. Role the two dice. Add them up and then add ten. What do you find out each time you added ten to your number?
