Welcome to another week of learning from home. This is Week 7.

We have been so impressed with all your efforts and submitting your work. We really enjoyed watching your Weather Reports and will share them on the class Google Meet session. They were fantastic!

Please Note: Ms Brown (1A) will be unavailable for Google Meet today as she is supervising at school.

1B and 1C will meet on Google Meet at 9:15am today.

There will be small group 'Meets' during the week. Please refer to each class' timetable in the drop-down menu under YR 1. The expectation is that each student will join their allocated time to participate in an interactive learning session with their class teacher.

Each week you will be asked to submit some work to Google Classroom. This task will be highlighted in red with a 'Submit Below' button. The activity will then be sent to your class teacher where feedback will be given within 24 hours.

Spelling

How to teach spelling well

This week is a revision week in Spelling as we have noticed lots of Year 1 students need a reminder about the digraph /th/. Try and hunt for this digraph when you are reading and writing this week.

Learning Intention- We are revising the digraph /th/ as in thumb.

Success Criteria- I can select 8 words for my weekly spelling list and I can find 2 BOB words to add to my Weekly Spelling List.

REMEMBER B.O.B. stands for “Back of Book” words. If we were at school, we would have a list in the back of our writing book to keep track of ‘tricky’ words that we need to practise. Each week we add 2 of these BOB words to our weekly spelling list so we can learn them.

Activity-

-Watch Michelle Hitchinson's video - Lesson 16 /th/ digraph

-Log in to the SMART spelling website.

-Go to https://www.smartspelling.com.au and at the top-right is a ‘login’ button.

-Login use email: year1@smartspelling.com.au and the password: 12345678.

-View Lesson

-Highlight 8 words on the /th/ Weekly Spelling sheet. Choose different words from last time or words you still have trouble spelling correctly.

-Write the 8 words into the Monday column on the Weekly Spelling sheet

-Look through your writing book or your story that you wrote last week - can you see any words spelt incorrectly?

-Choose 2 words to add at the bottom of your Spelling List in the B.O.B word section

Writing

Learning Intention- We are completing a notebook page brainstorming all the things we know how to do well.

We are learning to form the letter Uu correctly.

We are learning what sort of word a verb is.

Success Criteria- I have a notebook page full of things I know how to do.

I can complete page 47 of my handwriting book.

I can underline all the verbs on my notebook page.

Activity

A verb is a word that you can do, it is an action.

Get up and move to the verb song, with Ms Brown’s favourite… Jack!

Open up to a double page in your Writer's Notebook. Write the heading;

Things I can do…

Around the page write down the things you can do easily. They can be big things, like surf a wave or small things, like get dressed for school.

Some of mine include:

*make a cheese toastie

*water and spray my indoor plants

*grow a plant from a cutting

*feed my dogs

*walk my dogs

*boss my children (Na! not really- just checking if you are reading :) )

Now under each subheading add some ideas.

Choose a different colour and underline or circle all the verbs.

Complete the Uu page in your handwriting book. Page 46. Colour the parts of the seahorse where the u sits.

Reading

Learning Intention- We are looking at the different features of an information text.

Success Criteria- I can identify the different parts of a text as I read.

Activity-

Today you are going to choose your good fit book for the week. This week you are going to choose an information text. Remember that if you don’t have any at home, the Reading Eggs library is a great place to find books!

Choose a good fit book - Information text

Once you have been for a book walk, relax and have a read!
Have a go at filling out the first two pages of your book response. You can print this out or complete it in your learning book.

Success Criteria:

I can compare the mass of two objects by using a balance scale.

I can order objects from lightest to heaviest mass.

ACTIVITY: Mass - Estimate and Order

Estimate which object in each set you think is the heaviest. Estimate the order of each set from lightest to heaviest.

Then weigh each item in your homemade balance scales to find the answer. Record on the worksheet or in your Math book.

ACTIVITY: Draw What Would Happen

Now that you have experimented, complete the worksheet to show what would happen to these balance scales.

Mathletics:

When you have finished the worksheets, log on to Mathletics and complete the Assigned Tasks: Balancing Act and Everyday Mass.
