Explicit Instruction: https://youtu.be/LosQ_Q6SCNY
You will need:
. Deck of cards
. Di
. Maths Book
. Pencils
Introduction: For the warm up activity you will need a di or a deck of cards. If not, just call out random numbers between 0-20.
If you had a di, your child would roll it. They would then have to tell you the number that comes one before and one after the number that is shown on the di. Again, you could do this by flipping over a card or calling out random numbers.
Activity: Watch Mr Keys take you through your Maths lesson.
Today your backyard is going to be your classroom.
I want you to find three sticks and three rocks. Hold the three sticks in one hand and the three rocks in the other. How many items do you have altogether?
Now this time, find four leaves and one rock. How many items do you have altogether?
I want you now to find your own items outside. Parents, can you please keep the numbers on each item under 6 for this task. That means, the biggest total would only ever be 12.
For extension, children can use numbers beyond 6, practise the partners to 10 facts( 7+3, 3+7, 9+1 ) or begin to explore doubles facts (1+1, 2+2).
When you have practised this several times,I would like you to draw six pictures to show your findings and write the matching numbers sentence.
We have included an ABC instructional video as an extra resource - https://abcspla.sh/m/3528723
Watch: You can finish off with watching…….
When you add with a pirate (extra video to watch about adding) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT_wvvEvkw4
You will know you are finished when...you can draw your picture and write the matching addition number sentence.
Challenge: Finding all the partners to 10 or begin exploring doubles facts (1+1, 2+2 etc)
