Read Chapter 10 of The Giver.

Task 3: Write the answer to the questions below in your literacy workbook.

Questions:

1. Why were the doors locked at the Receiver of Memory?

2. Describe the old Receiver of Memory.

3. How did the Receiver obtain wisdom?

4. What is the simile that the old receiver uses to describe his job? What does it mean?

5. What kind of community will maintain its houses open at all times?

6. Jonas does not understand when the Old Receiver told him that he was going to know “the memories of the whole world.” What is the importance of the memories in your opinion?

Activity 1 – Writing Seed

Today we will be creating our own “Favourite Things Tree” seed. This will include drawing a tree in our writer’s notebooks with many branches sticking out from the tree. What will be special about this tree is that the leaves will be made up of all our favourite things we can’t live without.

Writers Workshop

We can now move onto our Writer’s Workshop. This Writer’s Workshop may look a little different now we are at home. You still have the freedom to write what you wish, but we still expect you to take pride in your work.

Here are a few things we expect you to follow while creating your writing piece:

SC: We have 8 words from the list and 2 BOB words written in our spelling book

Activity 1: Login

How to login to SMART Spelling lessons with Michelle:

1. Go to https://www.smartspelling.com.au and at the top-right is a ‘login’ button

2. Login using the email address year6@smartspelling.com.au and the password 12345678

Activity 2:

Once logged in on the bottom left hand side of the screen click the red "Smart Spelling Lessons with Michelle" icon.

On the next screen on the left hand side will be course content. Click on Lesson 16: The digraph /ou/ making the sound "eh" as in famous.

You will need to listen to Michelle as she reads the words out. As she reads you will need to select 8 words that you will use as your spelling words for this week.

Write your words down in your Spelling Book.

Add 2 BOB words to our spelling list- You could find them in your own writing or search through a dictionary to choose some challenge words for yourself.
