Learning intention: Compare aspects of the 1800s to our lives now.
We will be successful if we can: Identify the potential health risks of poor diet in the 1800s
Mr Owen says Sam’s diet for the week will consist of goat’s milk and flour. Think about if this would be considered healthy and balanced eating today.
Step 1: Use the Better Health website link below to research the healthy food groups. Use your findings to fill in the ‘Main Food Groups’ sheet and identify which food groups are missing from Sam’s diet by marking it with a tick or a cross.

Step 2: Read through the PowerPoint below to find out more about conditions caused by poor diet. What potential health risks is Sam in danger of with his current diet? Write a paragraph in your Reading workbook explaining what health concerns Sam may suffer from if his diet doesn’t improve and what he can do to change it? Will there be help available for him if he does develop one of these illnesses?
