3rd September 2020
Learning Intention:
We are learning to spell words using the digraph /ui/ as in fruit and the digraph /ew/ and as in screw, both making the sound "oo".
Success Criteria:
I can find the parts of my words that I find difficult and highlight them.
Write out your words for this week in the daily column in your Spelling book.
Next, complete the following Spelling activity in your Spelling book:
Highlight the Difficult Part
Say your words.
Write out your words in a list on your activity page.
Using a highlighter, highlight the difficult part in each word.
Learning Intention:
We are responding to and understanding the main ideas in a news report.
Success Criteria:
I have answered questions about a BTN using clues from the story and my own ideas
ANSWER the BTN questions in your English workbook.
NEED HELP WITH THE QUESTIONS?
Watch Miss White’s video to go through the questions with her.
Learning Intention:
We are learning to write a draft for our Health Information Reports.
Success Criteria: I can…
organise my research into sections.
rewrite my research into my own words.
Activity 1
We are working on our Health Information Reports today. We are going to continue to research our topic under the subheadings you wrote down last week.
Here are the subheadings if you need a reminder:
All about…
The physical benefits of...
The mental benefits of...
The social/emotional benefits of...
Tips for children who want to start...
Facts about...
Places you can...
Equipment you need to...
Remember, we use subheadings in Information Reports to organise our ideas and keep them in an order that is logical (which means an order that makes sense!).
Activity 2
By now, you should have researched a few of the subheadings, and have some information written down in your English book.
When you were researching, you probably copied the information you found into your English book from a website. We actually need to paraphrase our research, not copy it!
We are going to use what we learned yesterday about paraphrasing to help us with our Health writing today!
Paraphrasing means putting information into your own words. You can do this by:
rewording - replacing words and phrases with synonyms (words that mean the same thing).
rearranging - rearranging the words within a sentence to make a new sentence.
Now that you know a bit more about paraphrasing, it’s time for you to have a go at doing it with your Health research. It’s a good idea to read the entire paragraph you have already written down before you start to change it.
Make sure you write your changes in a different coloured pen!
LI: We are learning to extend our understanding of known multiplication facts to solve division equations.
SC: We will be successful if we can:
-apply our know facts to new contexts
-understand division is dividing into equal groups
Warm-up-
Try this one!
See the video for an answer.
Divisible means the total can be broken into even groups. For example, 10 is divisible by 5 because I can make two full groups of five with no leftovers. In division we call leftovers, remainders.
10 ÷ 2 = 5
10 is not divisible by 3. I can make three groups of three which equals 9, but there is one remainder. 10 is not divisible by 3.
Collect items from around the house. Counters, lego pieces, pasta… ??
Make a collection and find the total. Then test dividing that total into groups. Try groups of two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine and ten.
I tried 42. I had 42 footy cards.
I could make 21 groups of 2 without a remainder.
I could make 14 groups of 3 without a remainder.
I tried groups of 4 but I had two remainders.
I tried groups of 5 but I had two remainders as well.
I could make 7 groups of 6 without a remainder.
I could make 6 groups of 7 without a remainder.
I tried groups of 8 but I had two remainders.
I tried groups of 9 but I had 6 remainders.
I tried groups of 10 but I had two remainders.
So 42 is divisible by 2, 3, 6, 7, 14 and 21.
Now your turn.
