Your child should watch (ou as in house).
Your child will choose lesson 15.
Students choose 8 words from the weekly spelling list that suit them.
Spelling Lists are already pasted into their Spelling Book.
They will also choose 2 'BOB' or 'Opportunity' words that they would like to practise. These words do not need to have the weekly spelling focus in them. These words might be from the students writing or new words that they have learnt from their reading lessons this week.
Please upload your spelling words once you have completed the task today.
Learning intention: We are learning strategies that help us with multiplication.
Success Criteria: I understand what an array is showing me and can make it into ‘groups of’ or repeated addition.
Warm Up: Multiplication War (with playing cards)
This game could be played by students on their own to practise or with someone in their family.
Flip over two playing cards. Multiply the two cards together. If practising on their own first, students could make the equation on their Multiplication Chart to find the correct answer. If playing with a partner, the Multiplication Chart could be used to confirm answers to be correct.
Mild- cards 1-5
Spicy- cards 1-6 and 10
Hot- include all cards, even Jacks-11, Queens 12 and Kings 13
Activity: Understanding Arrays
Last week students spent time making arrays. This time students will see what they can read from an array and change it to groups of and repeated addition.
Look at the arrays below. Students could recreate these using counters, Lego blocks, blobs of play dough, pebbles or anything that works. Or click on this link to a printable page if preferred.
What does the array show you? Can you make the array into groups and write the repeated addition equation for it? (make sure you have watched the teaching video for a demonstration.
