Instead of doing today's lesson, you can do some independent writing and create a piece to be included in our Year 4 Bellbrae Anthology!
We are collecting pieces of writing from Year 4s to include in a book of published writing (our Anthology!). You could write:
a story - what about writing a mystery, fantasy or science fiction story?
a poem
a biography (writing about someone else) or an autobiography (writing about you!)
a recount
a procedural text - maybe you have a skill you could tell other people about, or have a recipe for an awesome cake!
a magazine or newspaper article
Let your imagination go wild - it's really up to you!
Please upload a photo of your Writing Anthology piece to Google Classroom if this is what you are working on today.
Yesterday, you finished the research for your Information Report and collected the information together.
Today, you are going to paraphrase all of your paragraphs - which means you are going to write each paragraph in your own words.
If you haven’t done any paraphrasing yet, you can find the lesson by going to Year 4 > Week 8 > Wednesday > Writing.
Here is a quick recap about how and why we paraphrase:
Paraphrasing means putting information into your own words after you have read it.
We paraphrase because good writers do not just copy information they find online - this is called plagiarism. Plagiarism means taking someone else’s work and pretending you have done it. How would you feel if someone copied your work and pretended it was theirs?
In order to paraphrase, you need to have understood what you have just read. If you can’t paraphrase, you need to go back and reread the information.
Watch Miss Evans’ video to see her paraphrasing a paragraph. In the video, we use these techniques:
rewording - replacing words and phrases with synonyms (words that mean the same thing).
rearranging - rearranging the words within a sentence to make a new sentence.
Activity
Now you know how to paraphrase, please go through ALL of the paragraphs in your Information Report and write them in your own words.
