Learning Intention: We are learning to identify words that have a long vowel sound.
Success Criteria: We can identify which long vowel sound is being used in a word.
Activity:
Similar to yesterday’s lesson, we are going to be looking at the vowel sounds again, but this time we are going to be focusing on the LONG sound that the vowels make. Make a new list on a fresh page in your LEARNING BOOK. Take a look at some of the pictures examples that are included below and see if you can decide which long vowel sound that word is using and have a go at spelling it in the list you have created. Then you can go and investigate to see if you can find some of your own.
Learning Intention: We are planning for a fantastic weather report
Success Criteria: I have begun to draft a weather report.
Activity: Writers, we are all up to different stages with our weather report. This week we have the time to really get in and make these fantastic. Remember we were planning to film these with ourselves as the presenters.
Today get out everything you have already completed towards your weather report. Today’s lesson will focus on the planning stage. Remember all good writers plan for success. It is a really important stage that comes before drafting.
For those of you who already have a weather notebook page add to it or create a new page specifically for ‘Weather reports’
Check out Ms. Brown showing off her notebook page about weather reports.
Complete a notebook page for weather, weather reports or another topic of your choice if you feel like you have already planned well for your weather report.
Learning Intention: We are learning to measure and compare the capacities of pairs of objects using uniform informal units.
Success Criteria:
-I understand that capacity is the ‘amount that something can hold’.
-I can compare the capacity of two containers.
-I can order containers from smallest to largest capacity.
Meteorologists remember to record today’s weather on your Weather Chart (symbol and temperature).
WATCH THE VIDEO FIRST WHICH INTRODUCES THE LESSON AND EXPLAINS WHAT TO DO.
You will need:
Variety of plastic/glass containers Jug
Spoons, cups water/sand/rice
Funnel Maths book
Today you will explore various sized containers, measuring tools/utensils and fill each one with either water or sand (if you have a sand-pit) or rice, to decide which container has the greatest capacity and the least capacity.
Compare and estimate first. Record your estimations and your observations in your Math book. How many cups, spoonfuls, etc. did each container hold?
You might have to do this activity over the bath, laundry trough, kitchen sink or large tub or out in your sand-pit so you don’t make a mess!
Extra Challenge: If you would like to, complete the attached Task Cards.
