Today's task to be uploaded to Google Classroom: Writing
Learning intention: We are learning about adjectives
Success criteria: I can use adjectives to describe a character.
Home learning activity:
Watch the above video of Mrs W reading the picture story book and tuning in to adjectives
Look at the example of the adjective ‘fold up’ Mrs W has put below these instructions
List words that describe either Pig the Pug (like Mrs W has in the video) or a favourite book character.
Using a piece of paper, fold a strip of paper then flip it over and fold the other way. Mrs W shows you how to do this part in the video. Write your adjectives on your ‘fold up’ and add a head. There is a picture below to show you what this might look like.
Mild- Write 5 adjectives to describe your character
Spicy- Write 10 adjectives to describe your character
Hot- Challenge yourself to find as many adjectives as you can to describe your character What’s the highest number that you can come up with?
Learning intention: We are learning to write short, sharp, interesting and fictional snapshots.
Success Criteria:
I can write an interesting snapshot about an imaginary problem in the Australian Bush with a bush character..
Resources:
Writing Paper or Literacy Book
Home Learning Activity:
SNAPSHOT WRITING
Students create a character based on an Australian Animal and its characteristics
(i.e. shy platypus, sleep/lazy koala, grumpy wombat that wants to be left alone.)
Think of a problem that your chosen animal might have.
Noisy kookaburras keeping koala awake, wallabies wanting to ‘play’ with a wombat.
Describe that problem in an ‘short, sharp and interesting’ snapshot. (6-8 lines only)
Imagine a photo is taken capturing one moment. Describe that moment, what you could
feel
see
think
hear
Make it as interesting as possible… start with an exciting first sentence.
Now ask yourself or someone else at home for feedback.
How can I make this better?
Is my first sentence really interesting?
Have I used good describing words?
Have I made the reader feel like they can see and feel what the Ranger is thinking
CHALLENGE
Below you what you have just written see if you can rewrite the snapshot to make it even more interesting for the reader.
Please take a photograph of your snapshot and upload it to Google Classroom using the link below.
Learning Intention: I can spell words with the graph a as in ant.
Success criteria: I can draw a picture to match my spelling words
Home learning task
Say the word aloud.
Write the word.
Draw a picture to match the spelling word. Underline the tricky part of the word.
Complete the Thursday spelling column.
Learning Intention: We are learning how to tell the time. Success Criteria: I know what the time is by looking at the hands of the clock.
MILD
I know if the big, minute hand is pointing to the 12 it is an o’clock time. The small, hour hand tells which o’clock time it is.
I know if the big, minute hand is pointing to the 6 it is a half past something. The small, hour hand will be half way between two numbers. The first number tells what hour it is half past.
SPICY
I know if the big, minute hand is pointing to the 3 it is a quarter past something. The small, hour hand will be quarter of the way past a number. That number tells what hour it is quarter past.
I know if the big, minute hand is pointing to the 9 it is a quarter to something. The small, hour hand will be almost to a number. That number shows what hour it is quarter to.
HOT
I can look at the minute hand and work out how many minutes past an hour, or how many minutes to an hour, it is.
Activity: (photos of each activity can be found below)
Students can look at the stories below and work out the time each one is. They could make these times on their own clock or the interactive clock from the website we have used the past two Thursdays. There is a link to a printable version here if you find that easiest. Page 1 and page 2.
There are 4 mild, 4 spicy and 4 hot. Students may like to challenge themselves to the next level.
Alternatively, see below for another Spicy and Hot option.
Spicy- Human Clock Charades- for this activity students will need help from a parent or older sibling. Younger brothers and sisters may also like to get involved.
First, write the numbers 1-12 on A4 pieces of paper and lay them out on the floor to resemble a giant clock. Write different times on pieces of paper either in word or digital form. Eg; ‘Half past 2’ OR 2:30. Place them in a box. Students draw out a time and have to make that time with their body being one of the ‘hands’ of a clock. Someone else in the family will have to be the other hand. (see image below). If students would like to take a photo of their giant human clock, upload it to your child’s Google Classroom stream. I’m sure their classmates and teachers would love to see their creations.
Hot- Plan a Trip
Use the image below as a guide to how you would plan an itinerary for a family trip somewhere. Make sure you include the start time, end time and the duration of time that each activity took.
Learning intention:
We are practising our fundamental movement skills. For example, hopping, jumping, jogging and balancing.
Success criteria: I can make and finish 1 obstacle course in my yard (or on the spot).
Home PE obstacle course: ‘The 10 minute moving challenge’ :
Watch the Video from Miss Bath
Get the items you will need:
1 pair of socks
a handful of pens
3 pairs of shoes
Then, find a space outside.
Use 5 shoes to make 5 bases or ‘stops’. Put them a few metres a part.
You will move between the shoe ‘bases’ to finish the course.
Video and base Summary:
Base 1 to base 2: Jump or hop over the pens
Base 2 to base 3: Balance 1 pen on your head
Base 3: Do 10 sit ups and at the top of your sit up throw your socks into the air and catch them.
Then, stand up and throw your socks to base 4.
Base 3 to base 4: ‘commando’ crawl with a straight back toward where you threw the socks.
Base 4 to Base 5: Pick up your socks and jog to base 5.
Changes to this activity: You can make your own base ideas. Do you have any obstacles you could use in your yard? What movements can you think of?
Time yourself! Did you get faster each time? Don’t forget to rest!
End: Make sure you pack up everything and put it back where you got it from.
