Success Criteria- I can rehearse my weather report, reading the punctuation and reading with expression.
I can video myself presenting the weather report.
Check out this weather report, it’s not Australian but he has been very creative! This may give you ideas, he does speak expressively that’s for sure.
Activity-
Do a final read of your report until you are super happy with the way it sounds. Don’t forget to take note of the punctuation and to vary the tone of your voice. You may even know it off by heart. Ask someone to listen to you and give you feedback. Ask them if there is anything you could change.
Organise someone to help you video or set your device up so you can video alone. Video yourself delivering your weather report. You may need to do it a couple of times so you are happy with your final product. You can play around with your video and edit if you want to. Your presentation should include your costume, your props and your fantastic, expressive reading.
Learning Intention- We are learning to use expression to make our reading voice sound more interesting.
Success Criteria- I can change my voice to add expression.
Activity
Today you are going to practise reading with expression. Readers use expression to make their voice sound more interesting and engaging for the audience. Pick up your good fit book that you have been reading this week and have a go at using some expression in your voice. REMEMBER to look at what punctuation is being used before you start and think about what you might do with your voice.
Think about these things before you begin:
Have I solved all of the challenging words?
What punctuation is being used?
How is my voice going to sound when I read as this character?
Learning Intention: To measure and compare the mass of pairs of objects using uniform informal units
Success Criteria:
I can compare the mass of two objects.
I can order objects from lightest to heaviest mass.
I understand that size does not always relate directly to mass
WATCH THE VIDEOS FIRST WHICH INTRODUCE THE LESSON AND EXPLAIN WHAT TO DO.
Warm-Up: Practise the +3 fact cards
Complete the A-maze-ing Fact Fluency No. 5
Explore by hefting items of different sizes and masses.
Choose 6 different items from around the house that you can lift.
First compare and order them by size.
Secondly, compare and order them by mass by hefting to feel the weight.
What do you notice?
Record interesting things that you found out. eg. “The shoe-box is larger than the tin of tomatoes but it is lighter.” “The packet of markers is smaller than the envelope but they are heavier.”
Challenge Activity: Use 'hefting' to try and complete these Task Cards
