Mrs. Holmes modelling the reading activity for today.
Learning Intention: Today we are learning to summarise a text to show that we have understood it.
Success Criteria: I can write a shortened version of a text that includes the key information written in my own words.
Independent / Shared Reading:
15 minutes reading your ‘Good Fit Book’.
Record this in your Reading Log.
Introduction:
Watch the video of Mrs. Holmes introducing and modeling the activity for today.
Activity -
Last week we read The Gruffolo’s Child and summarised the story. Your teachers gave you feedback and today we are going to try to summarise a different story and see if we can use that feedback to improve our summarising skills.
You can choose today to summarise 'Boy' or to summarise 'Sylvester and the Magic Pebble'.
PART ONE - USE THE TEMPLATE
Use the template to record the key information from the story. If you don't have access to a printer you can reproduce the template in your Literacy book.
PART TWO - WRITE A SUMMARY
Use the information from the template to help you write 4-6 sentences that include the Key Information from the story.
EXTENSION: You could make a Book Review Poster for Boy. Give it a star rating out of 5. Include your summary. Draw a picture from the book.
Learning Intention:
We are learning to document our thinking and inspiration for writing.
Success Criteria:
I have completed a senses chart.
Tuning In:
Watch video of Mr Heard introducing the writing lesson.
Activity:
Today you will complete a senses chart. using a favourite place at home or in the backyard as inspiration. Begin by creating a senses chart in your Writer’s Notebook. A senses chart includes what you see, hear, smell, taste, touch and feel. There is an example of this below.
When you have created the senses chart, find a quiet place around home. This could be your favourite place to think, draw or write. You could even head outside, if the weather is, ok as you can always rely on nature to get our senses working! . Take some time to get comfortable. Our aim is to be as silent and still as possible so that we can observe what is happening around us.
When you are settled begin to note down words and phrases in each section of the senses chart. There is no limit on how much or little you should write, some sections will be more difficult to fill in than others but give yourself time to notice what you see, smell, hear, taste, touch and feel.
When you have finished your filling out your senses chart, take time to shape your seed at the bottom of the page. Remember to include the text type and your ideas.
e.g.
Information Text - Indigenous Plants
Narrative recount - A day in the life of a bird
Persuasive - Living on the coast is the greatest!
Learning Intention: We are learning to spell words using the digraph /se/ making the ‘z’ sound as in cheese.
Success Criteria:
I have selected 8 words from the list and chosen to BOB words.
I have completed the Monday column of my spelling sheet.

Learning Intention: We are learning about capacity.
Success Criteria: I understand that capacity is how much a container can hold.
Tuning In: Watch Mrs. Marra’s video of her capacity activity.
Activity: Today, you will need to explore your kitchen pantry / fridge! (With your parents’ permission of course!) Today you are going to find 4 or more items with a different capacity. If possible, find bottles in your pantry or fridge that are labelled in millilitres or litres not grams. Some items that are measured in millilitres or litres are: juice, sauce, milk).
Once you have your items, order the bottles from the least capacity to the most. Draw and label the bottles in your Math book.
Remember to complete a specialist activity each day! Check out what's on offer by scrolling back to the top of the page, clicking on the 'more' button and selecting the drop down option beside the word 'specialists'.
From here you can choose which area you would like to focus on for the day. Aim to complete Art, Performing Arts, STEM, Indonesian, PE and Blue Earth each week.
