Watch Ms Brown’s teaching video. Today we are going to complete a notebook page exploring the topic using our 5 senses.
Write your topic in the middle of the page. Mine is ‘rain on the roof.’ You may like to do a weather topic but you don’t have to, it’s up to you, you are the writer.
Around the edge of the page write the subheadings; I hear, I see, I touch, I taste, I smell.
Draw a coloured line right across the bottom of the page, like Ms Brown did. I like to have this ready because usually a writing idea pops into my head as I brainstorm.
Begin brainstorming your ideas. Record all your ideas even if they don’t seem to be about the topic, you never know the idea that will lead you to a great writing piece. Write flat out for 15 minutes, see how many ideas you can come up with.
If you have time you could add illustrations but only do this after you have loads of ideas. Remember writers get better at writing by writing.
